I'm not 100% sure if it was Hindu/Indian based, but I believe it was, I remember mentions of Djinns and there was a scene where they were in the Himalayas where they discovered the Yeti was another mage/shapeshifter who was using the Yeti to scare away people. It had a very Rick Riordan vibe where it was more or less modern day teens interacting with old culture and mythologies. I vaguely recall snakes/cobras being important symbology maybe? Any suggestions as to possible answers are appreciated as always.

I think those of us from immigrant backgrounds come at 2A and the gun culture in this country from a different perspective to most other Americans. Most of our parents come from countries where gun ownership is discouraged and restricted, where only the wealthy can even hope to own guns and where there is a predominant culture that says 'common people' shouldn't own, or aspire to own guns. Even though you can find people who are interested in shooting and firearms, the barriers are very steep. So, in America its not something we're born into, unlike other Americans who've been here longer, its something we adopt.
I grew up in Louisiana. My mom is from the Middle East so she always found American gun culture alien and bizarre and is ignorant about guns. She's not fanatically anti-gun, but guns don't have a positive connotation for her mainly because of all instability in the region. She's always taken aback at how 'easy' it is for any ordinary civilian to buy a "military rifle" from the store. She never gets why someone "needs that much ammo".
Though I'll always be grateful that when I was able to, she trusted me enough to keep my guns and ammo in the house, in my room, while I still lived with her, especially since I had a difficult upbringing and I didn't always behave the best in school, getting into fights and being around some sketchy people. She always knew I was interested in guns and shooting (I had bbguns as a kid) and she wasn't going to keep me away from them forever. So, as a teenager, she would send me to my uncle (my dad's brother) who lived in a rural area, where I would do some work for him. He would teach me how to handle and shoot real firearms safely and with respect. He had big enough land that one could shoot on it, which made going there a bit more enjoyable. For her, if I was going get into guns, better that my uncle initiated me than someone else who would be roguish and lead me down a bad path.
My interest with guns wasn't political. It didn't have much to do with frontier heritage, or my daddy taking me hunting, or as an emblem of identity, as would be the case for many (white) Americans. My mentality at the time was simply "guns are cool; shooting is fun!". Despite not really getting the 2nd Amendment at the time, I just thought it was the coolest thing ever that I lived in a country where I could buy a wide range of guns, however many of them I wanted, as much ammo as I wanted, from a store and just start shooting it at a range. It felt even cooler after the expiration of the Clinton era assault weapons ban in 2004. My mom always thought that my interest in guns was evidence that I really was an American. lol While I did run into sketchy bigoted types, especially in the immediate aftermath of 9/11, on the whole, at the ranges I went to when I was younger, people liked the fact that I as a 'newer' American was getting into firearms. It was like a point of pride or something.
I can't speak on behalf of others, but I would think that there are gun owners from an immigrant background who find 2A as a kind of novel, forbidden freedom they wouldn't otherwise be able to exercise anywhere else.

Today I had to stop in to the AP of Discipline’s office and while I was there I overheard they were looking for a student in the building who had earlier organized a fight club in our back stairwell between students where dozens of kids congregated to witness the fight. I can’t wait to see how the PBIS system resolves this bullshit. The worst part is the secretary leaned over and told me I never heard this. Which was followed by you would be shocked by the shit that happens behind these walls that are covered up. At this point teaching feels futile as kids literally do whatever they want whenever they want with no consequences.

background: im a 20 year old FtM, 5’1”, and ive been stuck at 150 pounds basically since I was 13. ive struggled with eating disorders and a poor relationship to food for various reasons (parents poor food choices, autism texture issues, never feeling safe while eating, body image issues, etc) so the idea of weight loss now sounds like… well it sounds fundamentally impossible. like a truly Sisyphean task of ridiculous proportions.

I’ve tried looking at YouTube cooking channels, but they always have my “ick” foods in like, EVERY recipe. plus, because of my various issues, trying new foods is always really daunting, and i don’t want to waste money and food trying hundreds of things i will just throw out. (id feel so guilty. i mean like people are starving and here i am throwing out food i just made because ew icky?)
how do i find things that i will actually like that arent horrible for my body? what are flavors even called? i know like, five of them. and how do i find more things with similar textures to things I already like so I don’t have to just trial and error the entire grocery store?
im open to suggestions, i really like salty foods, savory stuff, id like to try mushrooms if there’s any way to make them less squishy… most things i like are crunchy or they’re meat. veg is just so gross, but I’ve only ever smelled it steamed, which i hear is the worst way to make them, so maybe im judging them uncharitably. (is there a salty vegetable…?) uhhh yeah. if anyone can help my poor sorry soul i would greatly appreciate it.

IT WAS AN ABSOLUTE PAIN IN THE BACKSIDE!
Seriously, if the goal was to make the tools easier for newcomers to Quebec to learn French, they failed big time. Let me go through the problems this portal had:

Problem 1: Portal is not easily accessible from the Government of Quebec Website

For what is supposed to be a "one stop shop" to learn French, they certainly don't make it easy for you to actually get to the website. Nor did in any of their press releases did they provide an easy to remember URL to the website.
Going from Quebec.ca, it asked you to ask whether you're an immigrant, Canadian citizen, and willing to learn full time or part time or online. But the questions on that site were completely redundant cause when it finally provides a link to the site after answering those questions. The portal asks you those questions all over again.

Problem 2: The Portal to learn how to speak and read French. Is ONLY available in French.

This can really only be described as an Epic Failure in how to start from the beginning. There's absolutely zero language options on the Portal available, no option to read it in English, Spanish, Mandarin, ANYTHING other than French. Also Google Translate's plugin kept failing with this due to the frustrating layout.
It gets even worse from there. The French is very overly detailed and articulate, which makes it extremely difficult for someone even with a basic knowledge of French. And it even has a questionnaire as to ask how much French do you already know: None, Basic, Intermediate or Advanced. I can't help but wonder if the person putting that together realized the problem if the person answered "None".
I had to get my wife, who is Bilingual to help me out with it. I can't even begin to imagine how hard it would be for people who's native language isn't English or Spanish. Finding translators for that isn't easy.

Problem 3: The portal gives you a list of institutions for you to enrol into. But doesn't tell you where they are.

Honestly I don't understand why this wasn't foreseen. Other government websites like Clic Santé had the foresight to provide you with information about clinic addresses and how far away they are from you. Not so much with Francisation Québec. After choosing your region, you get a rolldown list of the names of Institutions that would be the best suited for you, ... and that's it. No addresses, no map showing their location, and the names cannot be copied and pasted for an easy lookup.
We had to manually type in every single institute on another computer before we found a location that was best suited for us. It was with a name that we wouldn't have even known was close to us either.

Problem 4: No Accessibility Options Whatsoever

On top of the website being a wall of text, there's absolutely zero accessibility options for disabled people. It's a pretty big deal, the website is a wall of black text on a grey background with some Quebec blue for the headers, with no options to change this for color blind or vision impaired people.
Given that this is an official government website. This is absolutely not ok. It's required by law to have accommodation provided for those who need it.

Seriously if Legault starts complaining as to why so many people are not signing up to the website. It'll be easy to see why for everyone except the CAQ.

My sibling works at an auto repair shop and vehicles often get left overnight as repairs are being made. He hasn’t had a car of his own for 6 months now (his own fault, I don’t feel bad for him) and he’s been taking random vehicles home on his break, smoking weed and then going back to work using their vehicle. Now, he’s begun to bring the cars home overnight and drive them back to work the next day.
They’re not his vehicles, I don’t know about you but I’d be PISSED if I left my car at a shop to find out someone was driving it solely because they don’t have a car.
I want to report this behavior appropriately but I want to remain anonymous. How can I go about this? It’s not about getting my sibling in trouble, it’s about protecting customers property from being used incorrectly.

So. My indoor cats are forcibly making themselves (more) occasional outdoor cats. A little background info. We have a ridiculously opinionated mini house panther, and a dainty little calico. We used to live in the city in a small apartment so going outside for them was an absolute no. Recently we moved to the country. Cute little house with a huge screened in porch. All was perfect! The cats would enjoy lazy days on the porch and watch the birds at the feeders I had placed from them, and the panther was picking on little cali less out of boredom. Enter… ducklings.
The kitties did NOT appreciate having the little feathered a*holes taking up their attention. For five years they have gotten it all. It got much worse when the duckertons got to start going outside. Eventually when the ducks would follow me outside, a cat or two would escape so I would supervise all of them. It was cool for a bit, but now I have to spend 25 minutes wrangling at least one straggler (always a cat). This morning before work one of the cats BOLTED outside and I had to leave with her outside. They are both fully clawed and we are in a generally safe area away from roads.
Does anybody have recommendations on a good GPS tracker, both for short term (just started work after the move so funds are mildly tight currently) and long term ( in a few weeks things will be much more comfortable) ? As soon as I can establish a vet here we will chip them and my job includes pet insurance. Also, just looking for some assurance or anybody that’s been through this before? I feel like I’m losing my mind lol. They will never be allowed out at night.

Hey there,
After going through the Wiki and some research within the sub and outside, I think I ended up with more questions then I started. I'll try to sumarize it here, but if necessary I break it down into other posts.
My goal is: to understand what license I can get and to decide for a bike for commuting, from home to work, for 2 people, me and my wife. I'm taller(185 and 150cm) than her and also I'm on the heavy weight side (110kg). Distance is about 10km (20km round trip) every workday. I have the chance to pass through the A12 (highway?), to arrive faster at home. I'm opting for a smalleweaker bike just for the commute and maybe ocasional drive though the country/areas close by Antwerp, performance and reparability are top priority. Longest trip might be to the coast. I have a B license since 2012. I haven't done any course here in Belgium, just exchanged the license from my country to here.
I learned how to ride many years ago(on a motocross bike, I don't remember the model). I don't have that much knowledge about the topic (maintenance, how to investigate issues on the bike, etc) but I'm also not completely ignorant to it. I like to dive into this area (my father was also a mechanic).
Questions about the license are:

• According to this site here, with my B license, I can start riding a bike after 4 hours of training. Which category that would be in the license? AM? A1? A2? This was not clear for me.
• After this 4hour training, do I need to talk to the stadshius to review my license?
• What is the name of this 4 hours couse?
• Is there a test for this case like in the other categories?
• I found out that I can have a translator for my exam, but I could not find if the study material is only available in Dutch, or there is a school or book in English? (I'm still learning Dutch)
• Usually how long are the lessons (for both theoretical and practical)?
• Is it possible to complete several lessons in the same week? or it is limited to 2 or days per week max? I want to take some days off work so I can finish this quickly if possible.
• Looking on the VAB site, I see that for a category A license I'll spend around €1500 only on the school, is there any other surprise cost involved?

• What is a average cost with fuel you have? (I'm used to get public transport since always and I get the anual ticket, so for me is less than a euro a day).
• What is the advised budget for the extra costs? (Gear + insurance + other docs & plate)
• In the end, how much you spent with "transport" related costs per month?
• Where can I do the other steps after the purchase (insurance and the other), on the dealership or in the bank/insurance company?
• On my street I don't see many motorcycles, how does it work to "park" you bike on the side walk? I don't have a garage for the moment.
• Work colleagues said to be cautious because there is a lot of stealing of bike in the city center where I live. Also, which kind of devices do you use? Alarm + chain + disk break lock?
• What is the lifespan of a bike with this light use that I proposed? I imagine I won't change to a highestronger bike anytime soon.

Suggestions for a first timer.

• Looking through other posts, I found as a suggestions in the low level of power (125 cc), the HONDA CBR 125R, this is looking like a race motorcycle for me (I really liked this one BTW).
• With a budget of about 2.5k€ (I can got up 3.5k, but I'm trying to focus just the commuting for now) what could be a good option that can carry 2 people securely? I don't mind 2nd hand options, but I'd need to learn what is a trap and what is a good deal.
• Is there any brand that is more "reparable" than others? I would prefer to try to do it myself for the simple things (I don't know any trustworthy mechanics here).

I have been obtaining term life insurance quotes since February, but due to my immigration status, only a limited number of underwriters are willing to provide me with a quote.
Although I am a non-smoker, the agent told me after long wait in May that the underwriter categorized me as a smoker. This misclassification was based on inaccurate information in my health records, which stated that I am a nicotine user. Upon investigating further, it was revealed that a part-time nurse, who is no longer with my healthcare provider, had incorrectly documented this information. The agent informed me that the underwriter told him obtaining a doctor's letter confirming my non-smoker status or correcting the health record could prompt the underwriter to reconsider.
I contacted my healthcare provider, and my primary care doctor issued a letter stating that I do not use nicotine right away. The health record was also amended a few days later. However, after waiting for another three weeks, the response from the underwriter was disappointing. They claimed that "the doctor’s records they received and reviewed are NOT from the PCP who sent that letter you submitted.
So they will NOT adjust their rating."
I informed the agent of the amended health record by providing supporting documents, but it seems that they are also unconcerned about these updates. Unfortunately, I cannot obtain the requested letter from the nurse who originally documented the inaccurate information since they have left the healthcare provider.
I am quite frustrated with the outcome after such a long waiting period. I am now seeking advice on how to persuade the underwriter to accept the amended and accurate health records. Alternatively, should I insist that the agent approach another underwriter, or would it be better to seek assistance from a different agent altogether?

I (F26) have a cousin (M30) who have been diagnosed with schizophrenia a couple of years ago. He's always been a little eccentric due to his mental illness but is largely a sweet person.
During our last family gathering, he surprised us by bringing over his girlfriend (F29). We hadn't known about her until then. He then proceeded to inform us they intend to marry. His parents were happy and excited.
After dinner, I pulled him aside and asked if his gf is aware of his mental health issues. He got irritated and told me it's none of my business. I reminded him that while his condition is well-controlled at the moment, schizophrenia is a serious mental health illness that should be made clear to his gf. He said he knows what to do and basically told me to piss off. I strongly suspected his gf is unaware of this, so later on I found an opportunity to speak to her alone and I broached the subject as delicately as I could. My suspicions were confirmed by her shocked reaction.
A few days later, I was bombarded by my cousin's text and calls, in which he angrily told me that his gf had broken up with him and blocked him and he knew I was responsible. I told him he has a serious health issue that should be made aware to his gf otherwise he's deceiving her. Right now his condition is all right, but when it's not? How can he make someone pick up the pieces like that? He accused me of being prejudiced and trying to destroy him.
Later on, I received similarly angry calls from his parents who also complained I ruined their son's marriage to my parents. My parents said I should have stayed out of this matter, and they suggest I at least apologise to appease my cousin and his parents. My other aunts and uncles are staying out of this conflict, but their children, my other cousins (all grown adults) are joking that they are never going to let me know who they are dating or going to marry in the future.
I didn't think I was wrong, but with my parents and relatives acting this way, I'm wondering if I am truly the AH in this mess? So AITA?

My aunt, deceased grandfather's sister and their financial advisor have power of attorney over my grandmother's "estate." Myself, my mother and my aunt are split inheritors.
Everyone in my family (including one of the carers for my dementia suffering grandmother) is ganging up on my mother creating a narrative that she's trying to control or take from my grandmother.
This stems far back and she was always considered the "black sheep." Just as some context to how heartless they are, they blame my mother for being sexually abused as a child. (How do you even comprehend saying that to victim of abuse!?)
This is one of a myriad of awful things they say to her, throughout her life. Obviously this type of abuse and family neglect has resulted in mental health issues that she lives with to this day. But they of course say she is volatile and nasty and the cause of all the family drama. They actually got her excluded from having any power of attorney using her mental health issues as an excuse.
Now this type of contempt is apparent in every interaction she has with them, she's actively ignored and left out of any and all plans, ideas, discussions, she's called a liar and troublemaker. Her crime? Ensuring my.grandmother isn't being taken advantage of (she quite clearly is but if the abusers have the legal power, we have no leg to stand on)
I recently came back to my home country after a few years and this is what I see. I was physically assaulted today by my uncle for recording the lot of them trying to convince my grandmother to hand over all her jewellery dispite her stating she has no desire to, I feel like if they coerce her like this when im there recording, who knows what they do when there's no one to fight for my grand mother.
Honestly this is the super short version of events that isn't ordered particularly well and I've never opened up to people on the internet, it's so much worse than the small summary I've provided. Im just at a loss, I knew they were nasty but this is next level.
I have no power or cash. Is there anything I can do to protect my mother and grandmother against these sociopaths trying to gaslight us?

I work as a dental assistant in a private corporate office. I am going on med leave in few weeks. The main associate dentist I work with has asked me to train other dental assistant in duties that I have been doing. (Not because I want to but because I am the only one that can do these tasks (these tasks are monitoring sedation/ setting nitrous machine up/ zoom whitening treatment, etc)
I have spend extra time outside of work to learn and grow my skills (watching seminars, videos, attending free classes and watching YouTube on these tasks/ topics)
The dentist just expects me to spoon feed everything I know to the other assistants which I think it’s unfair because they could simply watch the videos and go and read protocols like I did.
Every time I teach or show them something, they don’t pay attention and just sit there. No notes or questions. Just watches me do the job and expects me to show them again and again.
The tasks are standardized, and they could literally read the protocol that the American dental association has setup but they don’t take the time to learn or show any effort.
My dentist keeps bothering me asking me to train them but at this point. I am now sure if I really want to bother teaching them. They have taken the same post secondary education and the national exam as me. They should already know how to do these task. Any advice on surviving the last few weeks without any conflict??

I believe my previous posts will link below regarding my (30f) relationship with my maternal grandmother. I finally decided to go semi NC with my grandmother and I wrote her a letter that I worked on for two weeks with my therapist explaining how she has impacted me over the years. I didn't use blaming language, I tried to not be intentional hurtful, and I used "I feel statements." I did say her daughtemy mom was controlling and critical of me (but I left out the part where she abused my entire life.) I never said she wanted a relationship with me so I could help her (mentioning that for when you read below.)
My dad since remarried an incredible woman. This infuriated my grandmother so she asked for my dad to bring her some items of my mother's . He brought them to her and the letter I wrote her. This was last month.
My dad reaches out today and said my grandmother called and texted him about me. She said she believes I blocked. her (I did. Her name on my phone gives me physical anxiety) she then sends my dad texts that she sent me. I am pasting these below . The advice I need is-Do you think these texts show that she isn't /can't be remorseful? Or should I try again to have a gray rock relationship with her?
Text 1: "I decided to tell u about [My grandfather's] health. I haven't told u before. I didn't want u think I was trying to get u to visit us. He has a rare autoimmune disease it is myasthenia gravis ( it affects the muscles) breathing, eyes swelling, strength, walking etc. He has infusions every other week. He has a liver disease, diabetes, tumor on his kidney. None of these were caused by lifestyle. He has bone on bone on his knee, that can't be fixed by surgery. Due to the MG. He was in the hospital in th March. He only goes out to go to the dr. We are going to 3rd. Dr this week to see if he can give him anything to help his knee. I'm telling you this now, because I don't want u to say. I didn't know he is sick. The reason they can't fix the knee, it's tooo dangerous to put him to sleep. Due to the M.G. I am not looking for pity or help. I told u before he had some problems. But. You never bothered to call and ask about him. I just thought you needed to know.
Text 2: "I was wondering, before you declared your mom a horrible person, did u look up the possibility, that the aneurysm caused problems? The reason I wanted to give you money when u were in school, was because I wanted to help your dad. You told me before you were too busy to see us. It would be better after you finished school. You told me you would come several times when you hadOK. hool breaks. I told you as long as I heard from you it was o.k. I just to know to know u r ok. I don't know how u got the idea I want to control you. I have more than enough going on . It's all I can do to keep up sometimes. But you have no way of knowing that."
Text 4: "Please don't think i want to have a relationship with you is because I might need something from you. Hopefully I will be able to take care of everything we need. [her niece] and [her other niece] are very good about asking if I need anything. Fortunately I'm doing o.k."

so am an cde at an international company. My boss has always said he had my back. We have milestone meetings for programs to make sure the designs are doing the right things to be successful. No program is perfect, but most of the time the engineers do the right things to prove the design will meet requirements. This company won a big program. Blamed an new employee said he didn’t know what he was doing. Except my boss still wanted me to sign off even thought I wasn’t there. I refused. He got mad at me, got HR involved, and I still refused. Even told me I was being emotional. next milestone meeting, same thing happens. Except I wrote some not so nice things to the team in the chat ap. like You guys didn’t send me the link to the meeting and this is the second time wtf. My boss wanted a meeting with me to discuss the chat texts and I refused. Again he wanted the meeting and I said no because you are going to yell at me.
