PART 1 OF 2 This happened 8 years ago now when I (M16) was in highschool. Each concussion happened at on a seperate occasion.
The first happened when me and a few friends decided to wrestle at a community center where I used to live (Ontario, Canada). We decided on a tournament style where the winner will get a large pizza that all the losers pay for. The fights were a simple one on one, win by tap or an obvious overpowerment. We all circled the two main fighters and watched them wrestle until it was our turn. I had my eye on my first matchup, Z (M15), who was easily the skinniest and therefore the easiest to wrestle. Once it was our turn to fight, Z backed out, leaving me without a matchup. My round got skipped and it was agreed upon by the rest of the fighters that if I wanted to fight then I could skip to the next round.
Concussion #1 Fast forward to my next opponent, someone who thought was on my level due to a small difference in our age (Me 16 & my opponent, A being 17). I had the height on him by a bit but he easily weighed 10 or 15 pounds more than me. I knew that I had to end the fight fast as he might be stronger than me. The first thing I did was put him in The ol' reliable, a headlock. I positioned myself to one angle so that I could use all my power to thrust to the other side and throw us both on the ground. This amazing move should put him in a daze of confusion and that is when I should put him in some sort of submission hold until he taps out and I become the victor. I had the entire scenario in my head pictured in what looked like a That's So Raven glimpse into the future. Now time to execute this bodacious maneuver. I jolted from one side to the other and tried to throw him to the ground but he eliminated any thoughts of filling my stomach with any form of cheesy Italian cuisine with one simple maneuver: he took a step backwards. This move let him slip out of the headlock and left me to think about everything that led to this point while I fell in what felt like slow motion. I did not have any time to prepare for the fall other than tilting my head down so that I don't break my nose. I got the top of my forehead on the carpeted but still extremely hard ground. It hurt but I didn't feel anything weird until I got up and felt like vomitting. My vision had motion blur and it felt like I was looking through a tunnel because I lost my peripheral vision. I started reaching my arms out to grab anyone near me because the motion blur was affecting my depth perception. I was helped to sit out in a corner as I considered my life choices that led me here and how I took my regular vision for granted. We hid this from any adults that could possible get us in trouble but we did ask for help from some "cool" early 20s staff who we usually hung out with. They told me that I cannot sleep in a situation like this even though I was suddenly getting sleepy and they told me the possibility of more harm if I actually slept. I stayed awake due to fear of brain damage and "toughed it out" like my friends suggested I do.
Concussion #2 Now fast forward 6 months later. I am in grade 11 playing basketball with my friends when happen to trip on a crack in the cement floor that felt a lot bigger than it looked. I tried to brace my fall with my arms, but the pushups I always skipped came back to haunt me. I couldn't catch myself and I don't know whether it's the speed at which I fell or the fact that I couldn't even hold myself in a pushup form if my life depended on it. This led to me faceplanting the cement and my glasses which I had on the entire time smashing on impact (this miraculously did not cause me any harm in any way) and my face cutting open at the temple. Blood poured out like honey out of a bottle and my friends got me tissue paper to cover the bleeding. I was to distracted by the amount of bleeding to realize that I had a concussion. This time it was a similar feeling to the first time. I was ready. I remained calm, tried to stop the bleeding, and waited patiently for the ambulance to come. The EMTs confirmed that I showed symptoms of a concussion and I rode with them to the hospital. The doctor later confirmed that the cut on my head was on a weird angle and the stitching it might cuz issues once it heals so the bleeding was stopped and a bandage was placed over the gooey stuff they used to cover the wound.
Concussion #3 Fast forward to the next semester. It is Finals Week of my grade 11 year and we just finished one of our exams. We decided that since we have the rest of the school day off to prepare for our next exam, we have some time to play basketball. We have one "court". It looks similar to the place in the warehouse where they had that basketball episode in the office. This is the same court where I tripped and fell and recieved my concussion #2. {This year we went to the finals in the local high school basketball tournament and lost not because they were better, but because our starting five (including a 6 foot 5 kid that plays rep) got tired due to us playing multiple games back to back. This kid was 1 year younger than me but he fit into our friend group because all of his friends were our age as well.} I was chasing my tall friend who just grabbed the rebound but I got too close to him from behind and ended up tripping on one of his long freaky stick legs. This was unintentional from him as he couldn't have known that I was that close to him as he would've positioned himself differently. I still haven't improved in my workout routine so I still couldn't defend myself from gravity. Face_plant3.exe. My glasses spontaneously combusted upon impact and my face was led to the same fate as my previous encounter against this undefeated foe. I picked myself off the ground and looked down as I saw my poorly rendered reflection in a small pool of blood where I just got up from. I positioned myself to sit against a wall as the adrenaline basically made the pain non-existent as I sat there angry at myself for getting in a situation like this for the second time within a year. I was rushed by teachers and students who helped me stop the bleeding as they called 911. It was then that I started to notice the effects of my concussion. Everything from the tunnelling vision to the nausea. However, there was one issue that worried me. The tunneling vision exceeded my peripherals and slowly covered my full vision with darkness. I looked around at the places where I knew the lights were positioned to see if I noticed anything but I couldn't see them. I remembered to stay calm and asked my teacher who was helping me if the lights were still on. He didn't answer immediately. He then said "What do you mean? Of course they are. What?" Once he confirmed what I suspected, my calm mind reminded me of Daredevil on Netflix in the scene when he lost his sight. I thought the super hearing or super senses might kick in but it was just regular senses minus sight. I prepared for the worst and I just thought about all the things I could no longer enjoy in life. My VR headset. Gaming. TV. Oh god, Anime? Reality started to kick in around 10 min later when I was waiting for the ambulance to arrive. Eventually I started to see some light from one eye and then the next. It started with light, then blurry colors. Then shapes. Then a few hours later my sight was back to normal. Part 2 is about losing my ability to sleep some weeks later because of my head injuries
TL;DR - Got 3 different concussions with one leading to temporary blindness.

I tried a couple of load order templates I found online and the current one has been pretty good at making sure the mods worked as intended across a few character builds but recently started having the game crash more often without any change to it, or the game failing to even start on Xbox. So hopefully someone who knows modding better can help me out this mod list in a more reliable order or suggest a better mod or if any are known to cause issues and should be removed. Objective: Myocardial ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury is a complex clinical problem that often leads to further myocardial injury. Curcumin is the main component of turmeric, which has been proved to have many cardioprotective effects. However, the cardioprotective potential of curcumin remains unclear. The present systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the clinical and preclinical (animal model) evidence regarding the effect of curcumin on myocardial I/R injury.
Methods: Eight databases and three register systems were searched from inception to 1 November 2022. Data extraction, study quality assessment, data analyses were carried out strictly. Then a fixed or random-effects model was applied to analyze the outcomes. SYRCLE’s-RoB tool and RoB-2 tool was used to assess the methodological quality of the included studies. RevMan 5.4 software and stata 15.1 software were used for statistical analysis.
Results: 24 animal studies, with a total of 503 animals, and four human studies, with a total of 435 patients, were included in this study. The meta-analysis of animal studies demonstrated that compared with the control group, curcumin significantly reduced myocardial infarction size (p < 0.00001), and improved the cardiac function indexes (LVEF, LVFS, LVEDd, and LVESd) (p < 0.01). In addition, the indexes of myocardial injury markers, myocardial oxidation, myocardial apoptosis, inflammation, and other mechanism indicators also showed the beneficial effect of curcumin (p < 0.05). In terms of clinical studies, curcumin reduced the incidence of cardiac dysfunction, myocardial infarction in the hospital and MACE in the short term, which might be related to its anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative property. Dose-response meta-analysis predicted, 200 mg/kg/d bodyweight was the optimal dose of curcumin in the range of 10–200 mg/kg/d, which was safe and non-toxic according to the existing publications.
Conclusion: Our study is the first meta-analysis that includes both preclinical and clinical researches. We suggested that curcumin might play a cardioprotective role in acute myocardial infarction in animal studies, mainly through anti-oxidative, anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptosis, and anti-fibrosis effects. In addition, from the clinical studies, we found that curcumin might need a longer course of treatment and a larger dose to protect the myocardium, and its efficacy is mainly reflected on reducing the incidence of myocardial infarction and MACE.

I feel like nobody takes me seriously when I talk about this. I've made 2 posts on a different subreddit asking for advice, and 1 other post here venting about it and people have only had a bad reaction.
Pretty much, I've been struggling with urges to harm my cat for 6 months now, and acting on them for a portion of that time. At face value, yes, I am a cat abuser. I'm a horrible person who deserves to be thrown in jail for the rest of my life, and get the living daylights beaten out of me everyday. I should have all of my remaining human rights stripped away, for I am not deserving of them, nor am I worthy of being considered a human. I get it, I get it, I'm the scum of the earth. But really, there is so much more nuance to the situation that it isn't fair to make these distinctions without compassion and understanding. Yes, cat abusers have feelings too, shocker.
As for my past, I haven't had much of a childhood, or at least a very good one. Being forced to leave my home land in the Caribbean because of a natural disaster that destroyed the entire island, separating me from half of my family for over 9 months, wasn't a very good start at 6 years old. Witnessing my brother's abuse which included him being beaten relentlessly and punched to the point he was hospitalized wasn't so great. Same with the guilt of watching my brother's hand be smashed with a hammer, breaking the bones in it, after he begged me to lie for him so he wouldn't get in trouble, and my young self being too conflicted to know what I should do. Same with being beaten, myself, for making the mistake of stealing my mother's credit card to experiment with other forms of money. I wasn't trying to do anything bad, of course, I simply had only used cash to buy things and wanted to learn what that little plastic card could do, but my parents didn't know that, they didn't care to ask me. This same type of thing happened on and on, witnessing threats of abuse, witnessing abuse, being threatened with abuse, being abused, over and over. At some point, when I was 10 years old, my father's untreated bipolar disorder sparked up and he had a manic episode. He was convinced that my mother was doing drugs in their closet and cheating on him, and my parents would fight about this everyday. My mom signed the divorce papers but my dad refused to, and they stayed separated for a while.
This was actually the happiest period of my life, when I would stay over at my dad's apartment on the weekends. I remember when he first took me over there, and immediately asked me how the place smelled. I later learned that this was because my mom went over to the place before my dad picked me up, and commented on the smell, which my dad was eager to fix. I fondly remember sleeping on a queen size bed for the first time, with big fluffy sheets and the most comfortable pillows I've ever layed my head on, copper pillows, I believe. I'd have the fan blowing in my face, and be so incredibly relaxed. My dad would take me to buy all the snacks I wanted with the money he earned from his music studio, and I'd stay up all night, using his MacBook to play Roblox with my online friends, having the best nights of my life. After a while, my dad's manic episode had subsided, and my parents moved back in together, happily cuddling on the couch as we watched my favorite children's television show. All was well, and there was absolutely no abuse in this period. It wasn't as good as being alone with my dad, of course, but it was still way better than my life before.
Sadly, though, good things can't last forever, and my dad soon passed away due to complications with his Sickle Cell disease. I felt absolutely nothing, I cried at his funeral but I was no longer capable of feeling. I stayed in this numb state, struggling with online school, and just getting by. After a little under a year of this, I was struck by grief. I just broke down, so incredibly sad, mad, disappointed, every negative emotion I could feel towards his death. The sound ringed in my ears of people at his funeral saying "This is all part of God's plan", "Everything happens for a reason", as I clawed my hair out trying to think, "why? what was the reason?", "why would god do this to me?". It was so intense, I couldn't handle the pain of thinking about it everyday and slept as much as I could to make it stop. When even that didn't work, I tried to go to sleep again, but permanently this time. That still didn't work, and I didn't know what to do other than just continuing my suffering. I was trying my best to keep going, to make it until the end of the year, or at least until my birthday, but that didn't help. On my 11th birthday, I was in the stage of trying to stand up for myself, and I really didn't feel like going out for my birthday, so we rescheduled for the next week. That next week made a horrible day for me, in a way I didn't expect. I was feeling okay enough to go, and started to get ready. My mom wasn't very happy with me though, as she saw the outfit I had prepared. "Go change that hoodie", she said, "It has stains on it". I didn't know what else I should wear and asked why I couldn't just keep the hoodie on. "You look like a homeless person", she began screaming, "You're embarrassing me! People are going to think I'm a bad mom!". At this point I began crying, in pain at the fact that she would think of me as an embarrassment. It shouldn't have surprised me, really, when in the past she had threatened to ship me off to Mexico for not having good enough grades, and threatened to put me in foster care because she disliked the green polo shirt I wanted to wear. It still hurt, though, it always hurts, and I can never get used to the pain. Through the sobs, my heart and mind were racing to find a solution. Find a new shirt, keep defending my current attire, or just give up. I tried the first two options but nothing seemed to work, I couldn't make her happy, so I gave up. She stormed away, frustrated at my response, and I handed her something I soon discovered to be the final straw. "I don't want to go anymore", I said, deciding to be honest with her and myself, and stand my ground as a brand new tween. But it was a mistake, because it only unleashed a slur of yelling and screaming and shouting, as she stormed off to her bedroom. She'd done this quite often before, but this time, she reunited me with an old enemy, the belt. I was still being hit after my dad died, but usually that'd be a slap or punch to the mouth. Not this time, however. She furiously hit me with the belt, over and over and over, as I cried "I just wanted to be comfortable". All of our arguments over clothing have surrounded this, the fact that I want to be comfortable in what I wear and in my own body, but seemingly, my mom wasn't a big fan of that. She then began dragging me across the house, yelling and choking me, saying she wants to cut me and plaster me to the wall, and, of course, put me in foster care, because I'm such a worthless piece of trash that she doesn't deserve the burden of being my parent. My mom brought up this event a few times afterwards, but she seems to have forgotten the details that are now ingrained in my brain, as she sees it as a funny little thing that happened on my birthday, and not as the event that has made tears pour out of me for nights on end, wondering what I did to deserve this treatment.
Anyways, this goes to say that my past has not been good. The history of mental illness in my family has caused a myriad of problems for me, including the cat abuse. You may think "But that's not an excuse!", one thing I've been told before is that "Your mental illness is not your fault, but it is your responsibility". Okay, so I'm still a horrible person for abusing my cat, understood. But throughout my childhood, or lack thereof, I've only been taught that the proper reaction to something you don't like is violence. Cats scratch and bite, which is painful, which I don't like. I feel as though I've been in enough pain at this point, and I won't tolerate some stupid feline adding to that. So, I'd get really angry when my cat would bite me, and I'd try to avoid hitting him, but nothing really worked. I asked and people suggested giving away the cat, which wasn't an option, or staying away from it, which also wasn't an option, as I still wanted to have a good relationship with the cat despite this setback. The urges didn't stop and my cat wouldn't stop biting me, so I gave in. I started hitting him when he bit me to make him stop, but it didn't work. No matter what I did, I couldn't get this cat to stop hurting me. That was, until one day, when I beat him so badly that he released his bladder out of fear on my living room floor. Since then, I would just beat him whenever he upset me to make him stop, and it'd work. Sometimes, anyway. When he just wouldn't cooperate, I'd take him somewhere private, like a bathroom, and beat him until he'd emptied his bladder and/or bowels as a result of my punishments. All I'd wanted was to not be hurt by the little animal that's supposed to look up to me. The abuse is what gave me that. I used it as a coping mechanism, recreating my abuse and taking back control. I'd also get quite a few marks on my hands and arms after our session, that served as a visible form of the pain I endured, making me feel less invisible.
So no, while it isn't an excuse for what I've done, I wish people would look at my situation with more compassion and understanding about the things that lead someone to do this. I would love to be diagnosed with whatever's wrong with me and receive treatment and therapy and medication and whatever I need to stop doing this, but I'd only be able to access that by admitting to what I've done, which just isn't an option for me. As of now, I am 13 years old, and the responsibilities of dealing with my mental illness are too much for a kid like me to handle alone, so I just wish people were more understanding.

If you look, the area to the right of my colonists was where I started with small wood rooms and built slowly to the left. Just finished my sterile hospital, had enough grazing area to try for a Muffalo when I got someone with the right animals skills...

I am now trying to build SOME kind of fortifications and speed research to fuel so I have some fire support. The only momentary peace is that I was able to get my buiilder to close the wall while they slept.
I"m sure my base is chuck full of mistakes and problems, but I'm enjoying the learning as I go. That said, unless I can get my kids prepared, I don't expect them to make it through the year.

The existence of this cat is making me look for my smelling salts.
When first introduced, way back as a baby when Kaz was seen in Atera, Leez the Cat didn't seem to be anything special. Just another animal in a fantasy world. In a story like Kubera, a green cat is the least exceptional thing imaginable.
Then, Maruna reveals, as casually as one would talk about the weather, that the cat is a sura. Let's think about this for a moment.
If memory serves (I won't check this right now because this is an unscripted rant so just trust me bro), the wording Maruna uses is "a descendant of the sura". According to him, many, many millions of years ago, Cat Leez's ancestors were inferior Yaksha suras, and, as time passes, the lineage degenerated until the present day, when Leez the Cat's only claim to fame is having two tails (and green fur).
This shit is fucked up.
In the Kuberaverse, it is an absolutely irrelevant fact that, given enough generations, suras can degenerate into animals. From nastikas and rakshasas you can go to a creatures that are no different from dogs or horses. You start with thinking, feeling people, and end up with animals.
When you think about it, it really is messed up that rakshasas exist at all. No wonder the entire species gravitates around nastikas - THEY are the actual suras. Everyone else is one step closer to pure animalistic instinct. And every generation you go down, you get deeper and deeper.
There is no indication that this happens to humans. The one other intelligent reproductive species in the series does not have this problem, as far as we know. This only happens to suras.
Given that they are immortal, it is entirely plausible that they know this happens because they have personally seen it happen. Nastikas seldom interact with lower suras, but imagine if a rakshasa lives long enough to see their children have generations of descendants, and their descendants have their own generations of descendants, and they are able to see in them how intelligence decreases little by little given enough time. It really drives the point of what the universe was built to be, imo. If you've read far enough into S3, you know Brahma essentially shaped this universe to be as punishing to humanity as possible. She specifically states that suras were meant to be destroyers.
There is no other point. Even the concept of rakshasas came to be because Brahma felt like accepting Ananta's suggestion. Of course they eventually turn into beasts - once you've gone down enough in power levels, what can they destroy?
Why would a nastika be capable of mental growth easily, if that risks maturing into someone who won't wantonly kill? Why would a rakshasa's life matter enough to be grieved, when they are just cannon fodder for their parents? Why wouldn't weak nastikas be killed by their peers? Why would suras value anything else?
It goes without saying that human existence in Kuberaland is no walk in the park, but man, being a sura is existential horror as well. It's like knowing the answers to all of the "why are we here" type of questions, and they are the worst possible ones. If humans are the cattle in the abattoir, suras are the butcher's knives. You kill until you break, and then you are discarded, because there is no use for you anymore.
Of course, this is all generalization. There are the likes of Jambavan, who is in paradise, or Gandharva, who is meant to achieve happiness. I speak of the species as a whole - individual differences always apply. There is also Menaka's belief that they live long so they can eventually learn from their mistakes, and atone for what they once. I do not believe this is contradictory at all, as this post is meant to discuss the worst aspects of their existence.
Anyways. I can't sleep. I just think there is some considerable Lovecraft-adjacent horror here and I like discussing it. Peace.

So some context before we begin- My GF and I are both Canadian, and we ae both minors. I love her like nothing else and in this case breaking up is not an option.
She is a testament to the horrible mistakes the medical system in Calgary can be, with the hospital accidentally getting into a situation where she was born schizoaffective. She has a history of self-harm and many schizophrenic symptoms, but none like this.
Today I talked to her for the first time in about 4 days, as she is rather busy and can be forgetful about calling me.
She told me that she is actually a god of animals and that she hears messages from animals sometimes (example she gave was mice in the snow). The big worrying part os that she is now refusing to take her meds as she thinks that "the government is trying to mind control me" and take away her powers or something. She also thinks that everyond in her life is "in" on it (including me).
She left the call abruptly after I tried to reason with her. Her parents know she is not taking meds willingly and I'm sure they are as lost as I am.
Please help. What do I do?

No experience necessary for the laborer custodial or maintenance mechanic positions. It helps on the interview but you can surely think of maintenance related experience to relay for an interview. Based on fixing things around your house, the car etc. Always mention working safely.

Pro tip: You can apply for any job that has an exam opening and the test is administered local to yourself. Make sure you're serious and score decently; you can turn down the job offer. Keep a physical copy of your exam score, I believe they are good for two years.
The reason is: These job postings can be posted externally at capacity for testing, meaning they will not allow you to take the exam if they have enough qualified applicants. However, if you have a test score on the books, you are a qualified applicant.

Hi everyone! Hope this post is allowed but I needed more medical perspective. Long story short, I am 34 weeks pregnant. This past weekend, I went to the hospital for a fall. While in L&D, they found I was having a lot of contractions. The doctor was nervous for pre term labor so gave me one shot (12mg) of steroids for lung development. Turns out it was all Braxton hicks and I am hoping to go full term. However, I have now been reading that antenatal steroids on full term infants can cause behavioral, neurocognitive, and developmental issues later down the line. This has me absolutely panicked and I fully regret allowing them to give me the steroids. I would love to get more insight into this research and whether my worries are founded.
Edit: I know originally most of this research was based on animal studies but over the past year it seems more studies are showing supportive evidence in human studies including a meta analysis.

this is all i remember.

So being new to MD I can give a little grace (Sometimes there is input error) but after 3 days of constant use I have strong opinions. I've been learning blender fairly well the past 3 months. I'm not a professional but I certainly have it customized and the shortcuts down plus I can navigate and problem solve well (I can't sculpt worth a sh?t) so I feel confident I understand the 3d space a bit more now....and remember Blender is a FREE program! In MD I have been struggling to scale every cloth pattern on the 2d pattern window FOR 30 WHOLE ASS MINUTES with the error "must click within the pattern" WHAT THE [email protected] DOES THAT MEAN ITs JUST A GODDAM SCALE OPERATION.

1. When I created an account and went back to the home page it was literally greyed out...a complete URL page was greyed out and I couldn't click on any of their icons. I had to open a different browser just to sign in!
2. The UI and button nav is so [email protected] sticky I nicknamed is molasses designer.
3. Again I can't scale a simple set of vector points not amounting to more then 30 flat 2d plains because apparently the program wants a me to do a [email protected] hand stand or sum sh!t while typing. I can scale any object 3 ways with one hand in blender...WHICH IS FREE.
4. After a failed attempt at importing an avatar (that's a different problem) and after my project crashed and I reloaded it and the only thing left in the project was the garment and it was stark blue like in face orientation mode. I traveled yore to yonder in this program to bring the texture back and the closest I could get was turning on garment translucence. which in fact brought back the garment detail...just translucently.
5. oh I couldn't import a simple 130000 faced avatar.
6. Auto suit fit is borderline useless
7. Every time I save it acts like a spaced out coke addict for 5 seconds then goes back to normal.
8. There is no box select option in the 3d window...WTF.
9. it lags harder than a dial up connection.
10. the tutorials ARE STRIGHT UP ASS. Some of them are good but they are scares and they usually have accents and that makes it hard to follow.
11. would it be so hard to put drop down description on the buttons so you know what it is?
12. The animated jiggle every icon does when you hover over it pisses me off.

WHY ON GODS GREEN EARTH WOULD ANYONE PAY FOR THIS!

My partner and I recently visited the Zoologist atelieshowroom in Toronto. During our visit, we tried all the scents, including their unreleased scents. I hope you'll enjoy this review and find it useful for planning your trip!
Good to know:

1. The atelier is by appointment only. You need to email them through their website to book an appointment. Each appointment is around 1.5hrs-2hrs long, so block out enough time for it.
2. Zoologist is located on the OUTSKIRTS of Toronto. It's 45mins by car from downtown Toronto or 2hrs via public transit. Google maps has problems finding the location and will show results for Niche Essences (an outlet that carries various brands) as well. The correct address is the one near York University located in a strip mall.
3. Bring water, and be prepared for a multi-sensory journey. You'll be smelling their entire catalogue of 20+ scents, and you want to give yourself room to enjoy it. If you're visiting Toronto, you might want to have this as a "main" activity since it does require a bit of planning/time/effort.

A little background: I've been collecting perfumes on and off since 1997. My family worked in beauty, so there would be free samples coming in *every day* when growing up. I fell off it for a while, then restarted an interest in 2013 with Le Labo's Santal33. I usually go for resins, ambers, incense, and wood; Serge Lutens makes up 70% of my collection. I have no prior experience with Zoologist.
Zoologist experience:
Despite the plain exterior, the shop is beautifully decorated. On entry, there is a large monstera plant with a showcase of perfume in the front and center. The left side hangs large portraits of each Zoologist animal profiles, and the right has shelves with different types of bottles, samples and boxes to purchase. Victor welcomes you to the space, and I remember thinking that he looks the part: on the day we met, he was wearing a dark blue suit with a yellow kerchief square. In absolute honesty: I did not know he was the founder and creative director of the brand. However I found him extremely kind and knowledgeable, and set upon us an olfactory journey guided by their lightest to heaviest scents.

Scent impressions
**technically we went through all the scents, but here's the ones that I remember. I wish I took down better notes**
Bat -- Fruit bat, not the vampire kind. Juicy opening loaded with tropical fruit, a hint of sharp greenness from vetiver. The earth-soil note is a bit funky and fertile, if you've dug around with garden mulch and compost you'll know it instantly.
Beaver -- Clean hamster or chinchilla. Woodshavings, dried food pellets, musky small animal. Rawhide leather, not the polished suede or upholstery you'll get from Tom Ford/more tame designer.
Bee -- hyperrealistic honey and beeswax. I thought it was rather sweet, almost cloying in the shop. Afterwards I went home and sprayed it on my bedsheets, and had a nightmare about being inside a bee colony. There's a dirt note in here which is smells exactly like the hot, warm interior of a hive.
Camel -- Nice, gentle incense. More of an incense stick than the smoky plumes of CdG Black or Dior Fahrenheit. A whiff of church, but not the full altar.
Chameleon -- Wonderful translucency and freshness. It wears like a creamy twist on a classic fougere to me with the ylang-ylang & cashmeran notes apparent, very wearable unisex fragrance
Cow -- Amish homestead farm in Philly/Vermont. Rolling grass hillsides, pastoral. Milk note comes in later, unpasteurized and full cream, but not sweet. Quite interesting layered with Chipmunk, like a milk-cookie combo
Civet -- Reads like a belle-epoque style perfume, glamorous and heady. Perfect for sitting in questionable bars swapping dead drops in a Cold War espionage movie.
Dodo (original) -- Blackberry canes in summer, absolutely delicious that falls away to a polarizing cumin. The cumin is so strong I could smell it from outside the door.
Dragonfly -- You know in The Perfect Scent about with the avid descriptions of waterlilies, lotuses, slow-moving river in Egypt? How the entire team went down for a research brief, and the beauty of the river, the reeds, the sparkling shimmer of sun-on-water? I remember reading the book and being utterly disappointed with the actual perfume, this is what Les Jardins sur le Nil should smell like. This is the one I would buy for my friends as presents, along with the book, as a gift set.
Hummingbird -- feels like 24 Faubourg, but without the effervescence of the former. A rich nectar floral.
Hydrax -- Not for me but my partner really loved it; absolute barnyard.
Macaque (yuzu) -- Victor mentioned that he wears this one
Nightingale -- Extremely realistic plum blossom orchard. The tartness keeps it fresh and not too cloying. I think it loses a little of the tartness in the drydown, which is a warm and smooth sandalwood/labaduam. A very wearable scent that feels happy.
Scared Scarab -- Victor said it's inspired by the blue lotus flower, which is a type of incense used by ancient Egyptians. Definitely smells like it, a simmeringly hot sandy desert with an almost mineral-incense tone. Quite lovely and evocative, I prefer it to Camel.
Seahorse -- Warm sunny chillhop lofi beach. To me, it sounds like the new Gorillaz album track Tormenta ft. Bad Bunny.
Snowy Owl -- I liked this scent, but my partner loves it. It definitely smells arctic and icy, with hay and grass below. The mint note is lovely and addictive. I didn't care for the coconut since it reads 'tropical' to me but I appreciate how it adds a soft creamyness, like being enveloped in a cozy wintry nest.
Squid -- I love this. I told Victor it smells like HK and he was very confused. When I got home I realized why, the creamy toffee sweet opening and inky deep water smells is EXACTLY like drinking a super-sweetened milk tea while walking along the Avenue of Stars/Harbourfront at night. The ocean saltiness, the dried seafood and diesel boats while sipping your ultra-sweet condensed milk red tea at night. Absolutely gorgeous.
T-Rex -- lf you've ever melted plastic in a microwave or set your CPU on fire, smells like this. I like it cos its a very nostalgic scent, like burning your own CD-Rs

unreleased (R) -- Spicy gourmand, my partner adores it. It's sweet without being sticky, she guessed immortelle but actually it's a different heart note, however it does have that sunshine-y goldenness. I thought it smells like caramel pie crust.
unreleased (P) -- Sartorial fragrance that is extremely polished. If you like PdM or classic Penhaligon's style, you'll like this; the different notes played on the same violin, or different cloth cut into a classic 3-piece. I love this one and would buy it in a heartbeat.
unreleased (O.M) -- Cool botanical floral, the backroom of a florist shop in winter with the airflown tropical/hothoused flowers sitting in water.

A doctor told a jury in the Lucy Letby trial today how she was almost reduced to begging a colleague to take a surviving triplet to another hospital as it was 'the only way he would live'.
Letby, 33, is accused of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder 10 others at the Countess of Chester Hospital’s neo-natal unit.
The paediatrician, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told to the court about the desperate and 'overwhelming' battle to resuscitate another of the identical triplets after he suffered a series of unexplained collapses at the hospital.
Baby P, one of identical triplet boys, required resuscitation after his heart rate and blood oxygen levels plummeted.
Despite the efforts of a room full of medical staff and a specialist neonatologist drafted in from the Liverpool Women’s Hospital, Baby P was pronounced dead at 5.57pm on June 23 and was handed to his parents - just two days after he and his brothers had all been born in a good condition
Twenty-four hours earlier they had had to deal with the similarly unexplained death of Baby O.
Letby was the designated nurse for Baby O and P on the day shift of June 23 and continued to care for the latter the following day.
The doctor also spoke of 'shocking' and 'inappropriate' comments made by Letby as the drama unfolded on June 24 2016, including one regarding Baby P which said: 'He's not leaving here alive, is he?'
Following his death, the court heard she appeared 'excited' as she offered to make a memory box for his bereaved parents.
The consultant's harrowing account emerged when she was asked if any conversations that day had stuck in her mind.
She recalled going through to Nursery 1 to Nursery 2 shortly after receiving an optimistic gas reading that suggested Baby P might recover.
'A few nurses were there, including Staff Nurse Lucy Letby. I remember when you face one wall there's a clock in front. It was just going past 12. I was desperately wanting this baby to get better and feeling totally out of my depth.
'I just said, almost thinking out loud: "Ok, the transport team are going to be here". Staff Nurse Letby said "He's not leaving here alive, is he?"
'I found it absolutely shocking at the time. I turned round and said "Don't say that – he's had a good gas". In my mind he was very much alive. I said that and left the room.'
She continued: 'We have babies who are very, very sick, and very, very unwell. With some of them who have followed a course where they've become increasingly unwell, but you still keep hoping and trying.
'I would never let myself think [they would not live]. It's that hope that helps you keep going. When I heard her say that I don't even know if I was upset. I was just shocked.'
At that time Baby P was the best he had been since the collapses had begun in the morning.
The doctor said: 'The transport team was on its way. I thought he was winning and saw no reason for this comment'.
Following the baby's death she had gone with Letby to see the baby's parents in the nearby Lavender Suite.
'I remember thinking "I don't know how to face them. I don't know how to say this". The parents were sitting there and I told them P was going to need a post mortem too.
'Staff Nurse Letby was against the door and she was very animated, saying to the parents "Do you want me to make a memory box, like I did for (Baby) O?"
'I remember thinking "This is not a new baby, this is a dead baby. Why are you so excited about this?"
'That's how she was. Saying "Do you want me to make a memory box" like it was a bounty pack. I found that very inappropriate. It was the way it was said, not what was said.'
She added: 'Dad was there and he was stood next to (the surviving triplet), sobbing and literally begging Dr Rackham to please take him.
'And even though I didn’t beg, and I found a professional way of saying it, in my heart I just wanted him to leave too because that’s the only way he was going to live.'
She said although she did not go to the police, she raised it with colleagues, including the clinical lead and the neo-natal unit manager, at their regular Monday meeting three days later. The court heard Letby was removed from the ward soon afterwards.
Also revealed to the jury today was that Letby found caring for less sick infants in hospital 'boring'.
She is also said to have argued with a senior colleague when asked to work in an ‘outside nursery’ where babies were treated in preparation for going home.
The unit was split into four rooms - intensive care in nursery one, high dependency care in nursery two and the ‘outside nurseries’ of rooms three and four, Manchester Crown Court has heard.
On Tuesday, senior nurse Kathryn Percival-Calderbank told jurors that Letby was 'unhappy' if she was allocated shifts in either room three or four.
She said: 'She expressed that she was unhappy at being put in the outside nurseries.
'She said it was boring and she didn’t want to feed babies. She wanted to be in the intensive care.'
Mrs Percival-Calderbank, who qualified as a nurse in 1988, added: 'If anything was going on within nursery one you would find she would migrate there, as we would all do to go and help. She would definitely end up in nursery one to assist.
'It was more that we were worried for Lucy’s mental heath because it can be upsetting, emotional and sometimes exhausting as well at the end of a shift, if you’re constantly put in that stressed situation all the time.
'Sometimes you’ve got to come out of that environment and be in an outside nursery.'
She recalled an argument - some time before June 2016 - with Letby who was 'upset' at a shift allocation.
'Lucy went into the outside nursery but she was not happy with the decision,' she said.
She told Ben Myers KC, defending, that Letby had made it plain that she preferred to work in intensive care.
Asked whether the alleged killer had used the word ‘boring’, she replied: 'Yes, she did.'
There were times when she would end up in Nursery 1 if there was an issue. She was 'particularly happy to assist' in such circumstances.
Ms Percival-Calderbank agreed that she and some of her colleagues felt that Letby 'should spend more time away from intensive care'.
Despite the nurse preferring to be in Nursery 1, she would always go wherever on the unit she was told to work.
Letby, originally from Hereford, denies all the alleged offences said to have been committed between June 2015 and June 2016.

I female, have been dating my boyfriend for over 3 years. I was diagnosed w cancer in 2021 and am still in maintenance therapy for a couple years since I have high risk of prolapse and it involves me taking these pills every three months. The pills make me feel shitty and I’m currently on them feeling nauseous af. My boyfriend stopped by quickly earlier and I asked him if he could please come over later since I’m not feeling well and I haven’t seen him in a while. He told me he wasn’t coming over cause he had a long day at work and can’t leave his dog alone even though she has literally been walked and fed and he has roommates.
Some preface: my bf and I were actually broken up for a little when I started getting sick w cancer and when I was diagnosed. He obviously showed up to the hospital but I was in the hospital for week and continued getting outpatient chemotherapy for months and he showed up not even 10 times while I’ve had over 100+ treatments. I get that we were living in different towns but still in the same state and his family lives where I’m from. He couldn’t show up for me to ring the bell cause of work. His job does not involve him saving anyone’s life or any tight deadlines that literally anyone else could do. He says he wish he could’ve shown up for me more considering it was the hardest part of my life.
I’m so annoyed because now that he has the opportunity to show up for me he won’t. He’s tired from a 10 hour shift and we live so close to each other and I would just be laying in my bed since I don’t feel well. I really don’t want to go over to his place since I live alone and don’t want to be bothered with other roommates and an animal when I rather be sick in my own bed. I get he’s tired but my career in the future is going to be extremely demanding so with that logic I shouldn’t be able to do anything after my shift in the future. What should I do? I’m constantly feeling like he prioritizes literally anything before me like. He keeps telling me that “I’ll be fine” and I’m being overly sensitive. Also his dog is not well trained and is a pain in the a**. I love him to death and I know he loves me and we’ve had multiple conversations about related topics too.

Hey ladies,
I'm in physics and astrophysics. I'm in my upper years of study. Fortunately or unfortunately, depending how you look at it, this is the first time in my life when I've faced severe bullying and harassment situations at my academic institution.
The first time that it happened, I reported it, and nothing came about that really. It's clear that this was a "mistake" in the sense that folks in academia sometimes automatically stick up for one another with no room whatsoever for compassion. However, I did get compassion from at least one trusted professor that I had to confide in when the weightiness of the situation was really dragging me down and affecting my math performance. This prof was so nice to me. Others warned me that I might not get validation if I reported anything, and yet I did it because I was feeling so hurt by someone who was literally unaffected. If anything, this bully probably enjoyed hurting me.
More recently, I got called a broken kitten who should be left at an animal shelter, and I got called useless and so much more. The "crime" I had committed was to do the wrong set of problems in the book because the assignment was worded very vaguely, and I highly doubt I was the only one. I'd been briefly in the hospital when I made this mistake, so I got hated on by the prof and humiliated. I was in so much pain from my temporary medical setbacks that I didn't have the sense of humour to brush it off. Instead, all of this has caused me immense stress, and I've developed a fever just in time for deferred exams or very weighty finals due to setbacks this term.
I really want to smarten-up and get my act together, but it's so much easier said than done. I'm trying to hide my fever in the covid era, but this is not covid. I've already got severe PTSD from past traumas, including a nearly fatal car accident, and this is all just provoking me to get more panic attacks. I know that I'm responsible for pushing through. I really want to do well in my studies. I'm just so burnt-out right now and freaking exhausted. I'm even trying to transfer colleges, although my application is late so obviously I don't know how that will all go down.
How can I turn things around? How can I deal with the humiliation and the demeaning comments? I'm so stressed and physically sick right now. I have to get a grip on it all. Most importantly, I want to prove myself through my abilities to do well. I also want to regain my level head, as I did nothing to provoke the above but I know I'm not alone. Thanks xo
