2023.06.02 16:38 autotldr Global airline summit to tackle travel boom, climate goals

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 77%. (I'm a bot)
ISTANBUL, June 2 - Airlines will ride the crest of a faster-than-expected recovery and discuss ways of translating climate pledges into action at a summit buoyed by a return to business as usual next week.
After global airlines stared into the abyss with cumulative losses of $190 billion and increased debts during the pandemic, their Istanbul summit marks a turning point for the $800-billion industry, which is set to return to profit this year.
"Demand to travel is off the charts. It's at record levels as people not only catch up from three years of not travelling but put travel and experiences at the top of their wish list," said travel expert Paul Charles, founder of The PC Agency.
Longer term, airlines face pressure to set out at the summit how they aim to meet a target of net-zero emissions in 2050.
In another hot-button issue, airlines will debate how to avoid a repeat of last year's widespread travel disruption while campaigning for harmonised rules on passenger compensation.
Joanna reports on airlines and travel in Europe, including tourism trends, sustainability and policy.

2023.06.02 16:33 ViciousPuppy Dallas June 26, 24M - parks and restaurants

Hey! I have pretty much the whole day (from roughly 10:00 am to 12:00 midnight) as a layover and I'd rather not waste 14 hours in an airport. Tentatively I will be going to the Dallas Arboretum/hiking in White Rock Lake Park, exploring some local restaurants, maybe a museum, before finishing the day in a bar. If any travelers or locals want to meet up or if anyone has any suggestions on where to visit that's fairly accessible by DART do let me know.

2023.06.02 16:27 equilarian SMART Terminal / AXIS Logistics Park Update

Hi All -- it's been a hot minute. I've been super busy but wanted to check in and post an update. This is the email that was just sent out:

We are on social media!! Please like, share, and follow us on Instagram and Facebook. We have been to posting content. If you have any photos or videos you'd like us to share, please send them our way.
We've also started posting yard signs around town. If you see one, be sure to scan the QR code and follow the links to email the entire city council.

Here are some upcoming dates. Please be sure to mark your calendars to join us!

SMTX City Council Meeting
SMART/AXIS Is not on the agenda, but we will be there to speak during public comment. We invite you to join us either virtually or in person. Council will be discussing if they want to change the rules to Council Committees, which was prompted by the way the SMART Council Committee was handled.

Community Town Hall 1
What does bringing a massive Heavy Industrial Park to San Marcos mean for our community and neighbors? Join us for a brief presentation and discussion / Q&A about where we've been, where we are, and what Heavy Industrial looks like for taxpayers, property owners, the river, Reedville, Maxwell, and Martindale. (posting a graphic in the comments)

Community Town Hall 2
2nd Community Town Hall with similar topic to 1st meeting. We will be going into more detail about what you can do to help at the July 3rd Council Meeting and signing up for Public Comment.

SMTX City Council Meeting - 1st reading of Heavy Industrial Zoning
City Council will be voting on the 1st reading of zoning the SMART / AXIS land to Heavy Industrial. We need AS MANY people as we can get to SHOW UP for our community and the river to speak during public comment. This is not a public hearing, so the only opportunity we have to speak is during Public Comment. Details on how to sign up will be provided once the timing is closer. (posting a graphic in the comments)

SMTX City Council Meeting - 2nd reading of Annexation and HI Zoning. BOTH PUBLIC HEARINGS
City Council will be voting on the 2nd reading of annexation and zoning the SMART / AXIS land to Heavy Industrial (if not delayed for whatever reason). Both readings are PUBLIC HEARINGS, so we each get a total of NINE MINUTES to speak like the April 18th meeting. The more people we can get to show up, the better. The more we can get to speak during public comment and both hearings, even better!
The April 18th meeting went for a little over FIVE HOURS. Let's make it last longer than that and truly show council how much we care and don't want this zoning to pass.

Other things.... We have given away all 100 of our signs! Thank you to everyone who has one in their yard. We are hoping to get some larger signs out into the wild. If you have a solid and visible location please let us know. Some of you have already reached out but a reminder is always appreciated. If there are more folks who want smaller signs we will need to make another order as well. Please reach out if you'd like a small sign.

We are seriously considering getting an attorney but need people to commit to join a board to represent the community. If you'd like to donate to hire an attorney, the retainer fee is $5000. Please reach out if you'd like to donate or are interested in learning more about what being on a board looks like. The purpose of an attorney is because the Development Agreement has a contingency clause in it that takes the city's voting power away through contract zoning. It states that if the land is not zoned HI, then the city cannot annex. However, annexation MUST happen

We Need Help Spreading the Word We printed out A TON of flyers and still have A TON left. If you'd like to pass out flyers please reach out.

2023.06.02 16:15 afa00 Forgive My Excitement

Many of you have seen my posts here for the last several months. Thank you for your patience and your kind replies. My family are from the US. Between 2000 and 2009 my wife and I lived together abroad twice, but the arrival of kids and a very tight budget meant that it was domestic travel only vacations for us since that time. Mostly by car.
This year, a series of events conspired to allow us to travel internationally and we settled on Belize. I went on this sub and found out that our trip of six days six days/five nights was not enough so we talked on two more days. Still not enough, I know, but all we could manage.
So we are leaving for Belize TOMORROW and I’m super excited. I get all nerdy and giddy when I travel. I want to know as much as I can about the culture and people and try to do gather as much of the country into that trip as I can. Sadly, we are spending our time only in SI/Cayo and San Pedro/Caulker in our limited time. Next time (🤞🏼) we will do the north and south (looking w teay eyes at you, Hopkins & Placencia 🥹).
But sincere thanks to you all for induldging my earnest, random, and ignorant questions. So, here are some questions that have been swirling around my brain. None are dire. But I thought, I’d stick them up here to see if they might find some answers here and there from anyone with the tile, patience, and inclination to do so.
So, random questions:
  1. How much cash should we have on hand each day (3 in Cayo and 4 on Ambergris/Caulker) I know smaller bills are preferable, but I’ve only seen bits and pieces on some threads on this sub.
  2. You take one (packable) food ingredient back to the US with you from Belize. Something that will make cooking better back home. What is it?
  3. What run do I need to take home and where do I get it. I heard about Traveler’s 81? I like sipping a good sipping rum.
  4. I like tea a lot as well. Is there a tea that is native to Belize? Or a Maya tea? If so, where can I order it and is it available for purchasing to take with you to keep enjoying after we return. Sigh.
  5. What single drink do I need to try at what bar, restaurant, whatever in Caulker, San Pedro, or San Ignacio? If you make the best drink in those towns, I’ll come over if invited! 😂😂
  6. If you’ve traveled to Belize and returned to your home country, what is something that you have that reminds you of your trip? A small item. Besides the wonderful memories?
  7. Guide at Xunantunich? Or just explore on our own? I’m leaning towards a guide.
  8. I’ve heard the jungles are surprisingly mosquito free. Is that true? Especially this time of year (early June)?
  9. Is Belize a culture that barters at markets? Or is a price a price? To looking to score on a vendor. Just want to understand the culture. Thinking of street vendors selling non-food and market in SI.
  10. Tipping culture in Belize?
  11. Hot and humid day when going to guided tour at ATM. Pants still preferred given the journey (scrapes and cuts on rocks etc)?
OK. I think I’ve got it out of my system. But I might come back for more!!!

2023.06.02 15:51 DiscoveryHimalaya Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek Complete Guide - Annapurna Base Camp Short Trek - Trekking to Annapurna Base Camp Nepal

Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek Complete Guide - Annapurna Base Camp Short Trek - Trekking to Annapurna Base Camp Nepal
The Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) trek is one of the most popular treks in Nepal, offering stunning mountain views and a chance to experience the rich cultural heritage of the region. Here's a complete guide to help you plan your short Annapurna Base Camp trek:
Annapurna South
  1. Best Time to Trek: The best time to undertake the ABC trek is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons. These months offer stable weather conditions and clear mountain views.
  2. Permits and Fees: Before starting the trek, you'll need to obtain two permits:
  • Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP): This permit is required to enter the Annapurna Conservation Area and can be obtained in Kathmandu or Pokhara.
  • Trekkers' Information Management System (TIMS) Card: This card ensures your safety during the trek and can also be obtained in Kathmandu or Pokhara.
  1. Trek Itinerary: The short ABC trek can be completed in about 7 to 9 days, depending on your pace and acclimatization needs. Here's a sample itinerary: Day 1: Kathmandu to Pokhara (by flight or bus) Day 2: Pokhara to Nayapul (by road) and trek to Tikhedhunga (1,577m) Day 3: Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani (2,874m) Day 4: Hike to Poon Hill for sunrise (3,210m) and trek to Tadapani (2,630m) Day 5: Tadapani to Chhomrong (2,170m) Day 6: Chhomrong to Bamboo (2,310m) Day 7: Bamboo to Deurali (3,230m) Day 8: Deurali to Annapurna Base Camp (4,130m) and back to Bamboo Day 9: Bamboo to Jhinu Danda (1,760m) for hot springs and then to Nayapul. Drive back to Pokhara. Day 10: Pokhara to Kathmandu (by flight or bus)
  2. Accommodation: Along the ABC trek, you'll find teahouses and guesthouses that offer basic accommodation and meals. These establishments provide rooms with twin beds, blankets, and shared bathrooms. It's advisable to carry a sleeping bag for added warmth and comfort.
  3. Physical Fitness and Altitude Sickness: The ABC trek involves ascending to higher altitudes, so it's important to have a reasonable level of physical fitness. Prior trekking experience is not necessary, but regular exercise and cardiovascular training will be beneficial. Take time to acclimatize by ascending gradually and staying hydrated. If you experience symptoms of altitude sickness, such as headaches, nausea, or dizziness, descend to a lower altitude immediately.
  4. Packing Essentials: Here are some essential items to pack for the trek:
  • Lightweight and moisture-wicking clothing layers
  • Trekking boots with good ankle support
  • Down jacket and thermal innerwear for cold temperatures
  • Sun hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen
  • Trekking poles, backpack, and a water bottle
  • First aid kit, including medication for altitude sickness
  • Snacks, energy bars, and water purification tablets
  • Cash (Nepalese rupees) for meals, drinks, and accommodation
  1. Hiring a Guide and Porter: While it's possible to trek the ABC route independently, hiring a guide and porter can enhance your experience and make the trek. This trekking trail combined the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek and other treks too.

2023.06.02 15:29 NekkyP My puppy died at 4 months old, brutally and unexpectedly

I am writing this with tears in my eyes as I have just lost the dearest thing in my life. She was just 4 months old, a beautiful mini dachshund that was not meant to live and passed away too fast.
I've always liked dogs but I hadn't thought of getting one before living in a big house with a yard. My girlfriend managed to change my mind about this and she convinced me to get a dachshund, and 1.5 months ago we stumbled online upon the most beautiful little creature and decided to bring her home. She immediately showed us so much affection and we responded by giving her all the love we had. We live in an apartment so we took her to the park multiple times a week, we walked her at least 6 times a day and played with her the whole day through. We were so motivated to do things right that we even followed a training course for little dogs and she already knew many tricks for her young age.
Four days ago, the wineries in our region opened their doors to everyone for wine tasting and it was a beautiful day along the lake so we took her with us. There are obviously a lot of vineyards so we were extremely careful to not let her go near the grapes. It was quite hot, around 24°C so we made sure to do plenty of breaks where our little baby could nap and drink water to hydrate. We were so careful. Later that day we sat outside at a bar, and we could feel our dog pull the leash. When we looked we saw that she was sniffing or licking some sort of vomit on the floor that we hadn't seen because the color of it was similar to the grass beneath it. We immediately changed table and our little baby fell asleep on my lap. A little bit later she woke up and puked on my shirt, we thought it was funny at the moment and that she must have eaten something that upset her tummy, probably the vomit which came from another dog. On the walk back home she was completely fine, wagging her tail and sniffing everything with her little snout as she usually did. We put her in her crate, kissed her goodnight and went to sleep.
The next day we woke up to her vomiting and being very lethargic. She didn't jump out of her crate like she usually did to greet us and lick our faces, she wasn't hungry while she usually destroys her meals in a few seconds and she didn't want to walk outside. She also randomly screamed in pain for a very brief moment here and there. We immediately called an emergency vet to come home because our usual clinic was closed for a national holiday. He came fast and examined her thoroughly, after which he concluded that it must be an acute gastritis, and provided some meds to make her feel better. However, our baby did not improve. She continued puking and screaming in pain after the vet left and we were already crying by then. We called the vet again and he came back, checked her thoroughly a second time by running an echograph and gave her an antispasmodic to stop the sharp pain. He still thought that it was a gastritis, and she would likely feel better very quickly, in a day or so. The antispasmodic made appeased her, she was still very lethargic but stopped having sharp pains so we were hopeful she would go back to jumping and running in no time.
Unfortunately, we woke up to her vomiting again. She hadn't eaten and barely drank for a day now, so I brought her to the emergency vet as soon as I woke up. They took her in very quickly to run an x-ray and other tests, and the doctor told me that she could have eaten something that stayed inside her in which case they would need to operate. Regardless, they kept her, and would call to give more information after getting the lab results. Not even an hour later, I was shopping groceries and I received the dreadful call. Her Potassium levels were way too high, the doctor was suspecting kidney failure and told me that she might need dialysis very quickly. There were two clinics that had the medical equipment necessary for this, one was 1 hour away but would be extremely expensive (~10k) and the other was 2.5 hours away and would be about half the price if not less. We are not rich by any means but to save our baby we would have paid the price... I asked her if the 1.5 hours extra would lower the chance of survival of our baby and she said no, so we decided to go with the second option. I called my girlfriend sobbing and she came home right away, after which we left for the clinic... When we arrived there, they told us to wait, which made me so mad because they told us to be there by a certain hour which we did. However when our little baby, which was so tired and fragile by now, started vomiting again, they took her in right away. The vet told her that because our dog is so small and weak they would not start with the dialysis right away and will try to lower the potassium levels by other agressive treatments. She also said that the puppy was in a very bad state and her survival is not guaranteed. We broke down crying. We asked to see our baby, and when we saw her she managed to wag her little tail and look at us with her loving eyes while we were struggling to keep our tears from pouring out. We wanted to look strong for our baby and not worry her, she looked so lost and fragile... I will never forget that look in her eyes. The vets obviously knew better, so we agreed to let them do whatever they think is best to save our baby... We were told she would stay there multiple days, and because my girlfriend needed to work the next day, we drove all the way back and would come see our puppy in a couple of days. On the drive home, we received a call from the doctor saying that they managed to lower her potassium levels with the treatment, and the pup peed by herself which were both very good signs. This gave us a glimmer of hope and we were able to stop crying for the night and start having positive thoughts when going to sleep.
And this is where it all comes crashing down. We were told to call after 11:00, so the wait until then was unbearable. I am not working at the moment so I was home alone, crying, shouting, trying to make sense of this situation that happened so quickly and unexpectedly. I just wanted to hear good news. It didn't have to be great news, just some improvement that would let us have a bit more of that hope we so desperately needed. My girlfriend called them at 11:00... the Potassium levels were back up, they didn't manage to stabilize them. They realized that a dialysis might not be needed because there were other factors that would point to other diseases such as her increased hormone levels. They didn't know what was causing our baby to be like this... they had no idea. They called again twice in the following hour to tell us that her health deteriorated and she was now under assistance to breathe. We decided to leave and go see her right then and there... Once we got here after the 2.5 hour drive, our legs were shaking. We did not want to face the situation, we had cried the whole way and could not stop having horrible thoughts. The vet took us in and calmly explained to us that our baby's brain had been damaged irreparably due to an acute reaction to the anesthesia they gave her. She said it would have happened either way, anesthesia or not. The dialysis would likely kill her now and would probably not even solve the problem, because they could not find the cause. The doctor said that they had never seen a case like this, for a dog's health to degrade so fast and aggressively, they even put their whole team to brainstorm on possible diseases that would act this way to no avail. We were told that the most probable thing was a disease, possibly autoimmune, that she carried inside her and was maybe triggered by a gastritis. They said she was not suffering although I don't know if that was just to make us feel better. I fell on the floor crying. I could not believe this was happening to our baby. We took her in at 10 weeks, she was just 4 months old, we didn't even have her for the biggest part of her life and yet we felt like she had been with us for an eternity. I had never loved and cared for another being quite like I did for her. I spent all my days with her, she was the only thing making me feel less alone while I stayed home looking for a job. She was our everything. And she was dying.
They let us see her. She had cables everywhere. She was in a coma, her eyes were half-open and had a viscous liquid in them. Her tongue was sticking out from the side. She looked dead and she wasn't even being sedated. That image keeps replaying in my head over and over. Just the other day she was wagging her little tail and now she looked like her soul had left her body. We broke down crying again... we talked to her a bit, telling her that it would soon be over and she would be able to go to sleep forever, and we would hopefully see her one day again. We kissed her on her forehead as we usually did to tell her goodnight. We had brought her favorite toy so she would feel less alone. We were so devastated. I asked multiple times if there was any chance she would recover, even a tiny one, but the doctor said that the damage she had suffered to her brain would not be able to be reversed. The only other choice we had is that they would keep her to run more tests and hopefully find out what caused this... but she would not come back. We were hurt enough by the situation and could not bear more suffering, so we decided to put her away without pain. We held her little paws when she left us and I rubbed her between the eyes like I used to do when she fell asleep on the couch. After it happened, I asked to take off all the cables and let me hold her again for one last time. I just hope she didn't feel alone in her last moments...
They brought her in the other room covered in a blanket. I closed her eyes, it looked just like she was asleep. I held her lifeless body in my arms and sobbed uncontrollably. We called our parents and we couldn't say a word, just cries. We stayed with our baby a little bit longer in the room, talking to her even if she was already gone. After a while we had to go... we decided to cremate her body and not keep the ashes as it would just be a sad memory of her. They told us that she would get an autopsy as a last chance to find the cause but the probability of finding it was very slim.
We drove back home. The house felt empty, dead. I have never cried so much in my life. When I thought I had no more tears left in my body, more would come and I would start sobbing again. We hugged. We told ourselves that there was nothing else we could have done, and she would have died either way sooner or later. My dad said the only thing that managed to make me feel a little better: dogs don't have the same perception of time as we do. Our baby doesn't know that she died so young, all she knows is that she lived happily and was loved very much throughout her life. When we got in the shower, a hair brush fell on the floor. It was the hair brush that our puppy would always grab and run away with and would make us go mad. We like to think that she was still being silly from up there and that she was telling us to be strong and that she's okay. We took all her stuff and put it in the cellar, except her favorite toy that we kept as a memory. We booked the first flight in the morning to go see my girlfriend's family because we could not stay in the house right now. Our baby was not meant to live... Everything happened so fast, not even four days ago we thought it was just gastritis, and now we will never see her again. I hope she didn't suffer. I hope that in her dying moments she thought of the good times when she was running in the park chasing dogs 10 times her size while we were watching her, laughing our ass off. I hope she knew we loved her very much and will never be able to replace her. I hope she's in a better place now and can eat all the food she wants.
If anyone has any tips on how to feel better I would be more than glad to know about them. Right now it seems like there is no light at the end of the tunnel and I don't know how I will emotionally recover from this. We want to get another puppy soon but the void left by our baby in our hearts will never be truly filled. We already miss her so much, she was our everything. Rest In Peace baby girl.

2023.06.02 15:25 NekkyP My puppy died at 4 months old, brutally and unexpectedly

2023.06.02 15:23 FoxCoding 28M Brazil/Anywhere - Looking for a serious relationship

I'm a Software Engineer from Brazil, looking for a serious relationship with the potential for more. I like spending my time taking walks, playing with my pet Pinscher, watching movies, playing games and tabletop RPGs and sometimes studying topics which interest me (such as Artificial Intelligence). I dislike tattoos, smoking, drug use and heavy drinking (though social drinking is fine).
I like going out with friends for dinner, though I don't like going to bars. I'll go to bars if they go, but I don't tend to stay for long. When going on dates, I much prefer quieter places where we can get to know each other, like a coffee shop.
During my work vacations, I've been to Japan, Canada, USA and Brazil. My next travel location will be... Well, why don't you ask me? ;)
I'm fluent in Portuguese and English, I speak some French and am learning Italian. I am currently located in Brazil, but I'm open to chatting with people from other countries.

2023.06.02 15:14 le-moni I was having a decent day until…

My principal called me. And you all know when your principal calls it’s never good news. I picked up. And now for a little background to the followed conversation. I had to sub last period. And the way we do it here is that when you sub for a subject that isn’t your specialty, you have a class of “civil education” and you teach the students about, well, civil matters. All good if it was paid at all. I know I’m in for the kids but I’m not doing free labour, I’m not a charitable foundation and this week I had to sub almost ever day. Instead, I let the kids rest during that class. It’s almost the end of the year and they’re tired enough. Today, because the weather was good, we went outside for them to play football. The class consists mostly of boys who’re very active and using up their energy is better than being trapped in a flaming hot classroom. This isn’t the first time we do that. I’ve been told that’s common practice. Plus, one of the other teachers told me they were given permission. So the other students and go outside and it’s all good. Until that call. It went something like this:
P: You were subbing for 10th grade 6th period, right?
Me: That is correct.
P: And you were outside with them?
Me: Yes, they were playing football in the yard.
P: Did you notice anything off when you walked into their classroom?
Now, my initial thoughts were that something was broken or damaged. But I never saw anything like that in the classroom.
Me: No, as far as I remember there wasn’t anything unusual, nothing broken or damaged.
P: Well, someone had spilt ink on the floor. Did you not see that? Why wasn’t it cleaned? It is your responsibility as the teacher in the classroom to take care of any problem.
Me: I’m sorry, but as I said, I didn’t see it. I seem to have missed it.
P: From now one nobody is taking the students outside of the classroom for civil education classes. You should be giving them a lecture on a specific topic.
And that’s pretty much how it ended, with her wishing me a nice afternoon. Well, it wasn’t that nice anymore.
I’m more annoyed than anything. Nowhere in my job characteristic says I should be cleaning somebody’s mess. I’m there to teach, not to clean. With all due respect to our cleaning lady, but she’s there to do that and not rat us out or gossip. The school is small, the kids mostly clean up after themselves. I’m sorry if I’m in the wrong, but no, it is not my responsibility to take care of somebody else’s job. I sucked it up when we were all made to do garden work a before we had an inspection at the school. I still have nightmares how I’m told the flower pots aren’t clean enough and I should clean them again.
Who knows, I might do Better as a janitor than as a teacher if you were to ask my principal. I’m honestly sick of her attitude towards us. Good thing I’ll be quitting after the school year is over.
Thank you for reading, hope you’re having a great Friday! 🌼

2023.06.02 15:00 AutoModerator Weekly /r/MLS Questions/Free Kick Thread - Post General Questions and Discussion Here

Welcome to the Weekly /MLS Questions/Free Kick Thread. This thread is designed to house questions/discussions users might have including:
Our usual ground rules:
  1. Questions that are covered in the FAQ, Newcomer's Guide, or league site are fair game, even if they are marked as "dead horse topics".
  2. Questions can be about MLS, lower U.S. or Canadian divisions, USMNT/USWNT, or any club or domestic competitions those teams could play in. Questions about how soccer works as a sport are fine too! Questions solely about the European leagues or competitions, on the other hand, are not.
  3. If you're answering a question, be extra sure to follow our community guidelines: thought out and rational comments, backed up with supporting links. Try not to "take a guess" at an answer if you're not sure about the answer. Do not flame, troll, attack fans of other teams, or attack opinions of others in this thread. If you can't be friendly and helpful, don't post in this thread.
  4. This is meant to be a helpful Q&A/Discussion thread. This is not a place to practice your comedy bits; avoid asking joke questions or providing joke answers. This is also not a place to dump random articles, links, or opinions about the league.
  5. Despite us posting these on Fridays, the thread stays up all week. If it's Wednesday and you have a question, you don't have to wait until Friday to ask it.
  6. This is not a "Free Talk" thread. Comments about whatever is going on in your personal life or hot takes about non-soccer-related topics are not appropriate. As always, /MLSLounge is there for your small talk.
Even though we want you to ask questions, here are some resources that we always recommend reading because they can also help:

2023.06.02 14:43 Ok_Egg_2866 A different recommendation

I have read tons of MacBook recommendations here, but imho, they are mainly focused on people who work with photo/video stuff and web development (which currently brings in the money), which is not very useful for my case.
In my situation, I just want to mundanely use the computer for personal content consumption and for computing tasks using C++ and Python, with a rough use of CPU and RAM. For example, tasks like matrix diagonalization can take seconds or even days, depending on the size. I won't be solving problems that take more than 10 minutes on this machine; instead, I'll prepare longer ones for other machines. I am limited by RAM memory anyway and plan to buy 16GB, which I believe is sufficient. Since my calculations can scale from "4GB" to "200GB," I have access to thousands of gigabytes of computing clusters.
I could say that the GPU isn't important for me, except for some amateur Blender work to create sketches of my systems. It might be useful for machine learning calculations related to my systems in the future.
I had the first MacBook Pro with a Touch Bar, which I preordered, but it wasn't suitable for 10 minutes of continuous and intensive CPU usage. Even with fans, it used to get really hot. Eventually, I ended up using it for personal purposes, and it suddenly died after just four years. A colleague told me that the first MBP M1 wasn't good for that kind of usage either, as it would get too hot with a lot of fan noise when running Mathematica.
Everything I mentioned before is the second, maybe third or fourth, use case. However, I need to be sure that I will be able to do those tasks if I want to. The FIRST USE is for productivity tasks and watching movies at home or while traveling. I want to make sure I can do everything on it, anywhere. A desktop isn't suitable for my case.
So, I would like to know if the MBP 14 M1 Pro has solved the sustained cpu loads problems that the M1 had, and if there would be any compromise regarding the macbook durability for doing such tasks. If it still has those problems, I would give up and get the MBA M2 since, for the rest of the tasks besides executing, I think it may work just as well. Maybe would also choose the 14 for the screen quality, but don't want something overkill and I don't like it to have a SD card slot, don't like to have ports that I won't ever use.
Edit: I would buy windows, I like both OSs the same, but there's no laptops with decent battery life, that is very important for me.

2023.06.02 14:36 ILikeNeurons A useful guide for maximizing your district's CCL membership for success

Growing your district's CCL membership is an achievable goal for a relatively new volunteer with minimal training.

If your congressional district(find your district) has more than ~250 CCL members but less than 400 CCL members(find CCL members in your district), grow your district's CCL power to at least 400 CCL members.
Rationale: While it's not necessary in every case, our data has shown that districts with at least ~400 CCL members are statistically more likely to get their lawmaker's support.
Why it's an achievable goal: For districts with at least ~250 CCL members, you are well over half way there, and we have a track record of tremendous growth!
How to get there: Tabling/clipboarding, presentations, invite friends/family, LTEs/Op-Eds that mention CCL by name

If your Republican congressional district(find your Rep) has more than ~600 CCL members but less than 1400 CCL members(find CCL members in your district), grow your district's CCL power to at least 1400 CCL members.
Rationale: It may be overkill, but since Republican offices say they need ~100 phone calls from constituents, and even with no prompting or prodding, roughly 7% of CCL's roster will call their Rep after receiving a text request to do so, we can reach 100 phone call from constituents with almost no additional action from group leaders or other members when districts have at least 1400 CCL members. We'd love ~30-40 R offices to have at least 1400 CCL volunteers to maximize our chances of passing our bill.
Why it's an achievable goal: In addition to CCL's regular impressive growth, we've got volunteers from all over the country reaching out to friends/family in key districts, many of which fit this category. This is also forecast to be an unusually warm summer, and people are more likely to care about climate change when it's hot (i.e. these are optimal conditions for recruiting).
How to get there: Tabling/clipboarding, presentations, invite friends/family, LTEs/Op-Eds that mention CCL by name

If your district(find your district) has more than 1400 CCL members(find CCL members in your district) or you've already gotten your lawmaker's support, reach out to any friends/family in key districts to invite them to participate in CCL.
Rationale: These are the districts that are most likely to make the difference in the passage of the bill.
Why it's an achievable goal: Many Americans have friends/family scattered around the country, and with several thousand CCLers being in districts with at least 1400 members or whose lawmaker has already supported EICDA, there are bound to be some with close contacts in these key districts. Surveys show 1 in 3 Americans would join, or are already participating in, a campaign to convince elected officials to take action to reduce global warming, if asked by someone they like and respect.
How to get there: CCL's training on Motivational Interviewing combined with communicating on carbon pricing
