2023.06.02 08:50 AlphEta314 What is the argument against making Ancient Icon a guaranteed drop?
Currently 173 kc on Muspah deep right now and still no Ancient Icon drops, turning a one day grind into a hair-pulling week. But even setting personal frustrations aside, it feels like an awful idea that a useful and untradeable drop is locked behind an inconsistent method to earn said item. I know 1/50 isn't the worst odd in the game, but literally 3% of the playerbase will go just as dry, if not dryer, than me, and that's just ridiculous.
This also reminds me of this GotR rewards
post talking about how useful and untradeable and inconsistent rewards are design failures. While you can disagree, you cannot deny that this is an experience many players have voiced frustration it, so it probably warrants attention.
And, if there were no further changes planned for the Ancient Icon, maybe it's justifiable for it to be a random drop. After all, it's currently a niche upgrade to an item to help with bursting. But if the rumors that additional Icons will be useful after Desert Treasure II drops, this just makes going dry on even 1 icon, let alone multiple icons, feel truly awful. Locking content behind an inconsistent drop is plain stupid, and literally delays said content at wildly different times for players regardless of any other factors. For example, 3% of players will have to kill Muspah at least 123 more times than the average player, probably more times, to access the same content just because "game mechanics."
And no, forcing other players to experience what ironman players feel is not fun game design; if I wanted the dopamine of getting an important item after going dry, I would just play an iron, which I'm not. And forcing players to repeat a boss for a variable amount of time that not all will enjoy is even worse. I understand Muspah is a beloved boss, either for his loot, his mechanics, or both. But I don't feel that way, and I would be surprised if I was alone.
I am interested though in what others have to say (hopefully things that help me cope about going dry and keep me motivated).

2023.06.02 07:59 b_i_g__g_u_y Level 92 Reset Plugin
A couple months ago there was a post [1] about an idea for a level 92-99 "Reset" RuneLite plugin. Today my plugin's been approved and now it's in RuneLite under the name "Prestige".
The plugin will reset your level once you're halfway to 99 (just slightly over level 92). Once your xp has been reset, the xp you gain in that skill will now be
doubled (visually) on your way back up to 99 and you will receive level up notifications and get fireworks. Only your skill denominator is changed, so you should see your real level +/- boosts above your reset level.
It's my first RuneLite plugin so I apologize if there are bugs. I only had one 92+ skill to test it with.
Hope it works and if it doesn't, please let me know!
Disclaimer:
- I would NOT use the plug-in if you're trying to specifically time your maxed skill - it may make the xp calculations hard or even incorrect near the end, as the plugin should turn off on level 99
- I haven't been able to test this with a skill levelling up to 99, so if you want those cool fireworks on your screen, you may want to disable the plugin before levelling up - I think you should see them regardless, just want to give a heads up
- Turning the plugin on and off will initially give you some really crazy xp drops or they may disappear at first. I know this can be fixed, but this isn't a huge priority for me. If you have any code insights, please send them my way :)
- There's a lot of configuration that could be added that I probably won't get to as I'm playing Diablo 4. If you want to fork the code or make a better plugin, please do :)
- The plugin appears to work with "grouped" xp drops, though I have no idea how. It just started to work correctly and I haven't questioned it. I have no idea if it works correctly if both/all skills are over 92 or what happens with more than 2 skills at a time. Thanks to daconcerror whose code helped me get xp drops working.
- Be careful doing combat, as this will make it hard to see your total health and prayer levels.
Potential changes:
- Make it 1-99 but all levels are 1/99th of the XP needed - I may try to add this as a configuration. I think it's a cool idea
- Reverse the countdown from 99-1, making your first few levels hard to achieve but making the last ones fly by - not sure if I'll try to add this one, but I've seen it requested a couple times
- Reset every time you hit 92, so your rate goes higher and higher - want to do this if I get back around to this
- Allow the plugin to work past 99 - again if I get back to working on this I'll try to add it

Each of these bosses boast totally unique rewards. My goal was to create a variety of items specifically designed to NOT be BIS, instead offer interesting mechanics and solutions to areas of the game.
Over 80 hours have gone into these concepts. The rewards were designed with the sole purpose to not replace BIS items but instead be it's own unique item, using totally new traits and abilities.
Special care was taken to prevent any powercreep.
The Chomperpillar! A behemoth creature causing rumbles throughout the forests near Gwenith... Offering unique rewards including a new grapple, new potion, a Barbed Whip, and last but certainly not least.. AN UPGRADE FOR SEERCULL!
