WHAT IS GROUNDING?
Grounding is a set of simple strategies to detach from emotional pain (for example, drug cravings,
self-harm impulses, anger, sadness). Distraction works by focusing outward on the external world—rather
than inward toward the self. You can also think of it as “distraction”, centering,” “a safe place,” looking
“outward,” or “healthy detachment.”
WHY DO GROUNDING?
When you are overwhelmed with emotional pain, you need a way to detach so that you can gain control
over your feelings and stay safe. As long as you are grounding, you cannot possibly use substances or hurt yourself. Grounding ‘anchors’ you to the present and to reality.
Many people with PTSD and substance abuse struggle with either feeling too much (overwhelming
emotions and memories) or too little (numbing and dissociation). In grounding, you attain balance
between the two—conscious of reality and able to tolerate it.
GUIDELINES
Grounding can be done any time, any place, anywhere and no one has to know.
Use grounding when you are: faced with a trigger, having a flashback, dissociating, having a
substance craving, or when your emotional pain goes above 6 (on a 0-10 scale). Grounding puts
healthy distance between you and these negative feelings.
Keep your eyes open, scan the room, and turn the light on to stay in touch with the present.
Rate your mood before and after to test whether it worked. Before grounding, rate your level of
emotional pain (0-10, where 10 means “extreme pain”). Then re-rate it afterwards. Has it gone down?
No talking about negative feelings or journal writing. You want to distract away from negative
feelings, not get in touch with them.
Stay neutral—no judgments of “good” and “bad’. For example, “The walls are blue; I dislike blue
because it reminds me of depression.” Simply say “The wafts are blue” and move on.
Focus on the present, not the past or future.
Note that grounding is not the same as relaxation training. Grounding is much more active, focuses
on distraction strategies and is intended to help extreme negative feelings. It is believed to be more.
effective for PTSD than relaxation training.
WAYS TO GROUND
Mental Grounding
♣ Describe your environment in detail using all your senses. For example, “The walls are white; there are
five pink chairs, there is a wooden bookshelf against the walt...” Describe objects, sounds, textures,
colors, smells, shapes, numbers and temperature. You can do this anywhere. For example, on the
subway: “I’m on the subway. I’ll see the river soon. Those are the windows. This is the bench. The
metal bar is silver. The subway map has four colors...”
♣ Play a “categories” game with yourself. Try to think of “types of dogs”, “jazz musicians”, “states that
begin with “A”, “cars”, “TV shows”, “writers”, “sports”, “songs”, “European cities.”
♣ Do an age progression. If you have regressed to a younger age (e.g., 8 years old), you can slowly work
your way backup (e.g., “I’m now 9”; “I’m now 10”; “I’m now 11”...) until you are back to your current
age.
♣ Describe an everyday activity in great detail. For example, describe a meal that you cook (e.g., First I
peel the potatoes and cut them into quarters, then I boil the water, I make an herb marinade of
oregano, basil, garlic, and olive oil...”).
♣ Imagine. Use an image: Glide along on skates away from your pain; change the TV channel to a better
show think of a wall as a buffer between you and your pain.
♣ Say a safety statement. ‘My name is _________; I am safe right now. I am in the present, not the past.
I am located in _____________ the date is _____________.
♣ Read something, saying each word to yourself. Or read each letter backwards so that you focus or the
letters and not on the meaning of words.
♣ Use humor. Think of something funny to jolt yourself out of your mood.
♣ Count to 10 or say the alphabet very s..l..o..w..l..y.
♣ Repeat a favorite saying to yourself over and over (e.g., the Serenity Prayer).
Physical Grounding
Run cool or warm water over your hands.
Grab tightly onto your chair as hard as you can.
Touch various objects around you: a pen. keys, your clothing, the table, the walls. Notice textures,
colors, materials, weight, temperature. Compare objects you touch: Is one colder? Lighter?
Dip your heels into the floor— literally “grounding” them! Notice the tension centered in your heels as
you do this. Remind yourself that you are connected to the ground.
Carry a ground object in your pocket—a small object (a small rock, clay, ring, piece of cloth or yarn)
that you can touch whenever you feel triggered.
Jump up and down.
Notice your body: The weight of your body in the chair; wiggling your toes in your socks; the feel of
your back against the chair. You are connected to the world.
Stretch. Extend your fingers, arms or legs as far as you can; roll your head around.
Walk slowly, noticing each footstep, saying “left,” “right” with each step.
Eat something. Describe the flavors in detail to yourself.
Focus on your breathing. Noticing each inhale and exhale. Repeat a pleasant word to yourself on each
inhale (for example, a favorite, color or a soothing word such as “safe” or “easy”).
Soothing Grounding
♥ Say kind statements, as if you were talking to a small child. E.g.. “You are a good person going through
a hard time. You’ll get through this.
♥ Think of favorites. Think of your favorite color, animal, season, food, time of day, TV show.
♥ Picture people you care about (e.g., your children; and look at photographs of them).
♥ Remember the words to an inspiring song, quotation or poem that makes you feel better (e.g.. the

♥ Remember a safe place. Describe a place that you find very soothing (perhaps the beach or mountains,
or a favorite room); focus on everything about that place—the sounds, colors, shapes, objects,
textures.
♥ Say a coping statement. “I can handle this”, “This feeling will pass.”
♥ Plan out a safe treat for yourself, such as a piece of candy, a nice dinner, or a warm bath.
♥ Think of things you are looking forward to in the next week. Perhaps time with a friend or going to a
movie.
♠ Practice faster. Speeding up the pace gets you focused on the outside world quickly.
♠ Try grounding for a Iooooooonnnng time (20-30 minutes). And, repeat, repeat, repeat.
♠ Try to notice whether you do better with “physical” or “mental” grounding.
♠ Create your own methods of grounding. Any method you make up may be worth much more than
those you read here because it is yours.

In a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) published last week, the FAA proposes to amend the flight instructor certificate renewal requirements by changing the existing renewal requirements to recent experience requirements and adding a new method for persons to establish recent flight instructor experience. This rulemaking would also allow a flight instructor whose recent experience has lapsed by no more than three calendar months to reinstate flight instructor privileges by taking an approved flight instructor refresher course rather than completing a flight instructor certification practical test.

If you have installed Windows 10 using a USB drive with an autounattend.xml file on it, this may pique your interest.
TLDR: If the EFI partition on the system is too small, Windows 10 devices can not update to Windows 11 through a standard feature update. If you have ever used an autounattend.xml to install Windows from a USB, it's likely the EFI partition is too small.
We all know the (somewhat crazy) requirements to run Windows 11. One lesser know requirement (possibly new) not documented (yet) by Microsoft is the size of the EFI system partition. For those curious, the EFI system partition is what computers use to boot and talk with UEFI BIOS. Pretty important to have. This could be a new requirement as I have updated several devices to Windows 11 before, but now, those same models can no longer update due to this issue.
Recently, my org has been preparing to upgrade all our devices to Windows 11 in the coming months. Utilizing reports available in Intune, thousands of our new devices were ineligible for Windows 11. It would either tell us to replace the system drive or show the error "We couldn’t update system reserved partition". Confused, we reached out to Microsoft for some help. After weeks of troubleshooting and talking with several Microsoft product teams, we have finally uncovered the problem and its original cause.
Let's talk about the problem first. According to Microsoft, the minimum size of the EFI partition should be 100MB, as outlined in THIS article. While there seems to be no standard, manufacturers and the default Windows installation tend to set it around 500MB. It can vary per device. Windows 11 needs at least 15MB of free space in the EFI partition to upgrade to Windows 11. Unfortunately, due to third-party software using that partition more than ever, along with new Widows 11 needs, 100MB isn't enough space anymore. Microsoft has another article HERE about freeing space in the EFI partition. Though, you'd be lucky if those steps free up enough space. After going back and forth with Microsoft Support and performing many tests, their product team finally informed us that an EFI partition sized at 100MB is too small. They recommended 400MB or more. They did confirm with us that their teams will work on updating all the documentation required but who knows how long that will take...
Now for the cause. For many reasons I rather not list here, my org had to install Windows 10 via USB drives on thousands of new laptops a while back. To help speed up the process, we used an autounattend.xml file that just so happened to be provided by a Microsoft employee assisting us. Though, you can easily go online and generate an autounattend.xml file or download a template. The XML file defines many things, including the partitions to be created along with the size. As you can probably guess by now, the EFI partition was set to the minimum of 100MB which was fine until the latest version of Windows 11. So now, every device that the XML file was used on has a small EFI partition and can't upgrade to Windows 11.
After searching for all the templates and online generators I could find, my findings didn't surprise me. Practically all of them had the EFI partition set to 100MB. Anybody who has used an autounattend.xml file to install Windows may have set their EFI partition to 100MB. You could have this problem and not even know if you are holding back on upgrading to Windows 11.
All of this mainly becomes a problem when you start looking for resolutions. The only way to fix this problem without reformatting the drive is to use a paid third-party tool or boot to a USB partition tool. It's not possible to automate a fix via PowerShell or Disk Manager. So, if you use autounattend.xml files in your organization or plan to in the future, ensure the EFI partition is set to 500MB or higher. As for me, well, looks like our plan to deploy Windows 11 might be delayed a while.

A teacher conducting tuition home is just teaching you and is not connected to the examination, degree etc. Similarly, a human being acting as Guru preaches you the spiritual knowledge and not concerned with your practice and its fruit. The human guru may be able to deliver the knowledge of Satguru (Lord acting as Guru) as it is, but cannot clarify your doubts in the practical field as effectively as Satguru does. If you are hearing the speech through a tape recorder, the clarification of doubts is not possible. Even in the speech, some parts may not be clear to you due to the defects in your grasping power only. The human guru serves as a messenger of the Lord only. He is just like a postman. Therefore, the guru you referred in the Sanskrit verse uttered by you means only Satguru. However, Satguru is not frequently available. Still the Lord will clarify your doubts through some body since the Lord has the superpower. Therefore, you need not worry that your doubts will be remaining without clarification in the absence of Satguru.
The Lord is always ready to explain your doubts either directly or indirectly. Like the gaming industry, you have limited resources. Your time. Your money. Your effort. Your skills. Unlike the industry though, you are the driving force behind your game. You are responsible for everything. Marketing. Business. Art. Engineering. Building the game itself is a tiny part of the process. But, it is the core of the entire process.
How does the gaming industry build games? It breaks down into 6 phases:
Where does the game fit into each of these phases? Which ones are specific to the game themselves? These are vague and we can do better. Let’s break it down further.
Here’s how each of the 6 game industry phases relate to the game itself:
It can come from anywhere: video game, board game, personal background, an experience, your brain, random idea generator, AI, players, friends, a team, group of people, family, etc.
The game idea we are going to use throughout this blog is for a survival crafting game.
Let’s elaborate on the definition of what makes up the prototype.
Smallest
Smallest meaning you only want the core game elements present in the prototype.
How do you do this?
Start by disassembling the game idea into its core gameplay loop. A gameplay loop contains the main tasks that the player will be doing throughout the game.
In a survival crafting game, the core gameplay loop would look like this: gather resources, craft items and weapons, defeating enemies, and repeat.
The next step is to break down each task into systems that make the task possible. Then, you build those systems.
For example, to gather a wood resource, what systems do you need to get wood? Here’s a few you would need:
Quick & Playable
We want a fast way to play and test out these tasks and the game itself. The two ways to do this are with a physical prototype or with a digital prototype.
The physical prototype is building the pieces and components that make up the game. Then, using them to interact with rules (which are in your head) and the environment. This method is quick and tangible. Unfortunately, it doesn’t scale well. It doesn’t work for all games (like our survival crafting game). You’ll need to convert it into a digital format anyway for the rules, systems, etc.. It’s hard to share and get feedback. For these reasons, solo developers favor the digital prototype.
The quickest way to create a playable digital prototype is with a game engine.
What is a game engine?
It’s a software tool embedded with many features and functionality that you build your game on top of. A good way to think about it is with an analogy: a game engine to a game is what a foundation is to a house. They are convenient, powerful, and ready to use (little to no setup required).
If you are new to game development, use a game engine. Picking one is a whole topic in itself. Depends on:
Reflects the game’s core idea
Are you building systems related to the game idea and the game you want to make? If so, keep it. Else, drop it.
Using our survival crafting game example, a system to transition from day to night and back is nice. But, the game doesn’t depend on it.
This also includes the art. Use simple images for 2D and basic shapes, like spheres, capsules and cubes, for 3D. Remember we want small, quick and playable. This also avoids scope creep, a process of adding features until the game it’s too big and too complex to finish.
When you finish the prototype, it’s going to feel underwhelming to play.
Why is that? We have expectations.
First, we have expectations of ourselves. We know we can do better.
Second, we have expectations based on the games we’ve played. We’ve had great experiences and memories playing these amazing feeling and looking games. This prototype is not that.
This is 100% normal.
Remember the end goal of the prototype phase: decide whether to transform this prototype into a full game.
Deciding this is up to you and your goals. Is it fun? Does it offer a different and unique experience? Play around with it. Explore the space of the game idea. Don’t be afraid to experiment. This is when you should share it with people and get their thoughts with a playtest. As this blog relates to development of the game itself, we are going to skip it right now and move on to the iteration phase.
For our survival crafting game example, during this phase you might do the following:
Build a system or improve an aspect of the game. Test to make sure it works. Analyze if it improves the game and aligns with the game’s idea. If it does, great! Move to the next thing. If not, why not? Was it not fun? Hard to use? Decide whether to improve it, shelve it or drop it.
With your time, effort and dedicated focus, the game will grow. It will morph into the game you are expecting. The game may scratch the itch but is not satisfying. It’s missing that extra umph that makes it special and impactful. This is where polish comes in.

- Expand crafting to make interesting weapons and items (bottle + gas + cloth = molotov cocktail)
- Create puzzles to complete (Need key to unlock safe, solve riddle to find rare resources)
- Start a progression system or skill tree (Learn to craft more items, enhance melee abilities)
- Make more levels (dense green forest, snowy mountain, dry arid desert)
- Incorporate art assets (rocks, trees, buildings, first aid kits, swords, guns, zombies, birds, bears, etc.)
- Create a menu with settings (audio, video, gameplay)

- Music (tense music when an animal chases you, cheerful music when walking through a meadow, creepy music when walking around in the dark)
- Sound effects (firing a gun, chopping a tree, walking on rocky terrain, “oof” and “uggs” when taking damage)
- Particles (gun’s muzzle flash, wood chunks fly off of trees when hit, smoke rising from a fire)
- Post-processing (red bloody outline on screen when getting hit, chromatic aberration when feeling woozy)
- Screen shake (gentle sway when running, violent shake when taking damage)
- Visual effects (grenade explosions, x-ray vision)
- Animations (squash & stretch, player running, UI Transitions)
Once you feel it’s ready, the next step is to put it into the player’s hands. Releasing it.

I have my CYSA+ scheduled for August, I feel a little nervous about it but I do feel prepared as well. For my studying I have done Dions full course, half of the Sybex text book for my weak topics, plus the all in one book along with the practice tests
For dions tests I have been scoring 80s and 90s consistently, I just started the Sybex test bank online and they've been very helpful as well. The practice tests in the all in one I've been scoring decent scores in as well. I've been going over NMap flags and can read the log pretty well along with knowing a decent amount of Linux flags.

I have my CYSA+ scheduled for August, I feel a little nervous about it but I do feel prepared as well. For my studying I have done Dions full course, half of the Sybex text book for my weak topics, plus the all in one book along with the practice tests
For dions tests I have been scoring 80s and 90s consistently, I just started the Sybex test bank online and they've been very helpful as well. The practice tests in the all in one I've been scoring decent scores in as well. I've been going over NMap flags and can read the log pretty well along with knowing a decent amount of Linux flags.
My big question is how do the practice tests compare to the exam because in my experience with Sec+, the practice exams were actually harder. Do you all think I will be fine?

The two that "worked" best in terms of the accuracy of the final predictions when testing on the dependent variable was multiple imputation and then a method that uses a transformer to impute the values.
When looking at the results of imputation though the values are usually way off from what they should be. So I am wondering how this is resulting in better r^2 scores for the final prediction. I am using k-fold cross validation when training the final model on imputed data. Nowhere in the process of imputation does the model have access to anything related to the dependent variable so I am confused how I am getting better results if the imputed data is wrong.
Is it okay to still use these imputed, inaccurate values, for the models or is it likely that this model trained on these inaccurate values will not preform well when the model is used in practice?

Firewall Finale: In my opinion the best final out of the bunch so far. While all these Creative finals seem to suffer from the same problem of spawn positioning, this level makes it up with it's tougher jumps and patience required to bypass obstacles. Fall once and you're essentially out, so watch your six if someone's behind you.
Mount Boom: Another difficult final. This one requires even more patience, but instead with the Boom Blasters. This round would be decent if Boom Blasters weren't an inconsistent mess and if the delays were the same so spawn positioning wouldn't matter too much.
Bellyflop Battlers: The theme and idea is there, but it just doesn't cut it. The slime concave aren't smooth, so you can't actually get a lot of speed like in Speed Slider. In reality, this round is just super dependent on spawn positioning and bodyblocking. There is SOMEWHAT of a comeback potential because of the obstacles along the way, so it isn't a fully bad round.
Wooseleum: This is a terrible round in practice, since there's literally no obstacles other than the last jump with the axe which may give you a chance at winning. Decoration wise, it's very cute!
Parkour Panic: A prime example of a round that wasn't tested at all. The "parkour" part of "parkour panic" isn't even necessary until the end, because the bottom and EASIEST path of the map is coincidentally the fastest! Awful.
Slide Showdown: Literally no obstacles that can possibly help you make a comeback if you spawn at the back or right-side. This makes the round very dependent on spawn RNG. It's such a shame that it's called "Slide Showdown", because a way better level design could've had that name.
Square Up: Holy. Shit. This is by far the worst round in the game, EVER made. It's long, bland, spawn dependant, extremely punishing, you name it! If you fall ONCE, you might as well back out because it takes an eternity to respawn and there are literally no comeback chances. What's even worse is that you're on a conveyor the entire time, so being grabbed from miles away happens very often.
Those are my takes on these new maps, and if I'm being honest, none of these deserve to be semi finals, let alone finals.

I went to a recruiter about a month ago. I took the quick practice asvab in his office and scored pretty low, 34. I completed the application and told him a little about my medical history. I’m 19 yo male and a little over 3 years ago I was admitted to a psychiatric facility for 5 days. I told him that and he said he thought it would be ok since it had been over 18 months but that he would email me a medical release form. I haven’t heard from him since. I have since taken a couple long form asvab practice tests and scored in the high 60s. I texted him a couple days ago and haven’t heard back. What should I do?
