Stock tokens are tokens that closely track the performance of traditional financial securities, particularly shares of publicly traded companies. Stock tokens are delta-one products that are backed by physical shares. This means for a given instantaneous move in the price of the underlying asset there is expected to be an identical move in the price of the derivative
2023.03.22 04:49 Sudden-Process-5885 Is NTSX expected to outperform SP500?
NTSX has 90% equities already so it should track close enough to the sp500 as that part of a portfolio but is the expected return of the leveraged 10% treasury futures supposed to be greater than not holding the 10% straight sp500?
Is NTSX just supposed to mimic the sp500 with less volatility (treasury as flight to safety)?
Should someone young who’s risk allocation is 100% stocks be considering this levered 60/40 fund. To me, since treasury rates have gone up, I would guess they are worth it for some return too but I am not sure how to check this out. Thanks in advance!

2023.03.22 04:44 Imaginary-Baker9264 Not a quick fix but a tool
Meditation. Mainly body awareness meditation. I’ve been living in fully fight or flight tunnel vision for the past year because of FF. while it’s not a quick fix I’ve really been trying to make this a daily part of my routine. Just to slow down when I get back into that one track mind head space. Just wanted to share. It’s a battle that can only be won one day (sometimes one hour) at a time

2023.03.22 04:28 LordCoale The Mercy of Humans: Part 17 - A Calculated Risk
First-
Previous The air ambulance hovered just thirty meters above the raging waters of the river running well above flood stage. My wife, Nalini, piloted the craft with such expert skill that we barely moved, even in the near hurricane level winds. I hooked my safety harness into the airship’s safety line, just above the penetrator basket, while Tajamal leaned out the open hatch, scanning for people to rescue.
“Jabir,” Taj called, “I have three in view. In the trees to our seven.”
The blowing rain made it hard to see, but Taj had the benefit of enhanced vision with his SAR helmet optics. I pulled my visor plate down and sealed it as I looked out the hatch. The optics turned on automatically and I tapped the controls to trigger lowlight and infrared modes. Dalutian’s body temperature is a bit lower than human at 35° but, against the cold river, they stood out like bonfires.
“I see them. Nali, slide us back about twenty meters and I will drop.”
She'd heard Taj’s call and was already sliding back while rotating slightly to the left, placing me in a prime position to drop down into the trees. I remember reading about early search and rescue operations on Terra before the discovery of antigravity technology. They used helicopters, an inelegant, ancient machine that beat the air into submission. The machines were deadly when they malfunctioned, even at low altitudes. Such disasters were rare these days, but no unheard of.
“The wind is picking up,” Nalini called out. “From the north-northeast. Reads twenty-five sustained, gusting to fifty-five.”
“Thanks. I think we can handle it. Maintain at ten meters and keep her steady as you can,” I ordered.
My entire SAR crew was family. My wife is our pilot, her sister Marwa an emergency and trauma nurse. Their brother Zafar and my cousin Tajamal were both SAR pararescue. What was odd about my team is we are all ethnic Arabs that lived among the blond Vikings of Nya Österlen. We had not had the genetic mods to live there which made it a bit of a struggle at times. But we wanted to learn from the best before we moved back home to New Berlin. I will not lie though, the lower gravity here was a relief.
I jumped out of the hatch, swinging from the winch line as Zafar lowered me into the trees. I could see the faces of three Dalutians looking up at us. I could not tell if it was fear, awe, or confusion on their faces. The penetrator pushed through the uppermost branches. I used my feet to push it where I wanted it, edging closer to the natives clinging to the branches.
The wind made it impossible for me to talk to them. The two adults looked absolutely exhausted. I guessed they had been in this tree for quite a while, fighting the wind and rain. They look up at me, eyes wide in shock. I guess I would be too if some strange alien dropped out of the sky to rescue me. I unfolded the penetrator into its basket mode and locked it in place. I motioned to the woman with her child. I pointed at the basket, and she shook her head.
It seems that is the universal ‘no.’ I pointed to her and her child and pointed to the basket again, showing her the harnesses to secure them. The male yelled something I could not understand, and she hugged her child tight and scooted to the basket. I grabbed her around the waist and held them securely as they got into the basket. I quickly strapped their harnesses together and motioned to the last one. I figured he was the father. As he moved around the trunk to where the basket was, he slipped and fell hard. He bounced his head on a thick limb and went limp.
I wasted no time in thought and jumped after him. If he hit the water unconscious, he would die. I could not catch him. He was just out of reach when I hit the end of my tether and hit the quick disconnect.
“What are you doing?” My wife was angry at my choice.
It was, arguably, a bad idea. While by no means as good as a military survival suit, our SAR suits had self-contained rebreathers that allowed us to breathe in toxic or underwater environments. They were tough as hell. The armor was not the ablative, laser resistant military armor but could handle anything I would encounter here. He splashed into the water and sank. I could see his heat signature as the roaring waters ripped him away.
I hit the water. I could feel the cold water momentarily, until my suit’s environmental systems kicked on the heaters. I could see his body with my heat sensors. I triggered the sonar, and the computer painted the inside of my visor with the information. The floodwaters held many dangers, mostly from floating or submerged wood. Often these hazards were entire trees ripped from the ground upriver. I could still get crushed if I made a mistake.
“Jabir?” My wife was really angry.
“I am fine. Take the ship a klick downstream,” I ordered. “Zafar drop the net when I get close.”
“Roger,” Zafar answered. “I have you on the scope.”
All the SAR suits are tied into the airship’s datanet. With the locator beacons and health monitors, the flight crew could track me easily. I was not worried about them tracking me. Retrieving me was another thing entirely. But that was a worry for later. I still had to reach my target. I am an excellent swimmer. Anyone who wants to work in search and rescue is required to be better than average.
I kicked off strongly, pushing hard to catch up. It was easy to do since he was just bouncing along like a rag doll. If I cannot get to him soon, he will drown. I caught up and reached out, grabbing a handful of feathers. I felt some pull loose but enough held that I was able to pull him into a tight hold. He was a lump of dead weight as I pushed to the surface.
I could see the airship hovering over the river. Nalini held it in the perfect position. She held the airship at five meters, with the starboard hatch open and net barely in the water. Zafar and Taj knelt inside the hatch, looking at me as I bobbed down the river. I was at the mercy of the floodwaters. Holding onto the Dalutian meant I had little ability to swim. I kicked as hard as I could to position the best I could for the net to catch us. I hit sideways, my left arm snaking into the net while hooking my legs giving me three points of contact.
“Lift the net,” I yelled. “Lift the net!”
Zafar hit the lift and Nalini pulled up, lifting us out of the water. The net retracted into the roof and deposited us in a wet heap in the deck. Taj closed the hatch as I popped my visor and removed my helmet. Zafar pulled the male out of the net and worked to get the water out of his lungs. Only then I heard the mother and child crying in fear. I could not tell what they were saying, but I could see their concern.
Marwa took over, placing an oxygen mask over his beak. “Get us to a hospital,” she said. “He has a head injury and water inhalation. He’s breathing but it’s shallow. Damn, I wish I knew their physiology better.”
Zafar waved his sensor wand over the male’s little body. I knew they were smaller than us, but I did not realize just how much smaller they were.
“Blood pressure is low,” Zafar said. “At least that’s what the computer says. And body temp is low. Let’s get him on the stretcher and into a thermal blanket.”
I helped move the body onto a stretcher mounted on the bulkhead. All the stretchers were equipped with body heaters and the thermal blankets were little more than high tech electric blankets with the added ability to wick away water. This would help stabilize him, but he needed a full hospital.
The other two were chattering at me but I still had no idea what they were saying. “Do we have the translator package downloaded?”
“You don’t have it?” Zafar asked.
“No. I did not see it in the download files.”
“I pushed it automatically to your suit,” he replied. “Check for a file labelled Dal1.5. It should have installed by itself.”
“Well, it didn’t.” I pulled up the files on my suit’s computer. “Found it. Installing it now.”
With the file installed, I could finally understand what they were saying, for all the good it did me. I could tell they were family. The child was hysterical and the mother struggling to calm her. We got the father strapped in and secure. Through the deck, I could feel the engines vibrating as Nali pushing the airship to its maximum speed. Marwa had the father well in hand, so I turned to his family.
“We will be at a hospital within a few minutes.” I heard my speaker translate my words into their sing song language. It sounded like one of the tonal languages from earth mixed with a parrot’s call. “We have doctors who can help him. Do you understand?”
They both started talking and the mother shushed the child. Or at least, the translation software made the sounds. Often there is something lost in the translation.
“Who are you?” The mother asked.
“I am Jabir Tamraz.”
“No, who are all of you? I have not seen any of your species before.”
“Oh. We are humans.”
“Humans?” She recoiled a bit but then seemed to shake as she digested the news. We knew coming in to this mission that there would be some fear or anxiety. Most of the Confederation species had no real meaningful interactions with humanity. And even though some of the Dalutains had traded with us before, they were the minority.
“Yes, we are humans,” Marwa replied. “There are thousands of us out looking for survivors and doing what we can to rescue them. Just as we did for you.”
“But… Why?” The daughter spoke softly, but the translator spoke at full volume.
“Because… Because we felt it was the right thing to do,” I replied. “Many of our people have needed help. Sometimes desperately needed help. Most of the time, that help came. But not always. But our people have never needed help as badly as yours do. I am sorry we were not able to get here sooner.”
“Our government asked the Confederation for help. But it never came.” Again, the translator could not put her bitterness into the translation we heard. But I could tell by her body language that she was angry and defeated.
“I cannot speak to that. But I can tell you that we are here and not going away.”
“Prepare to land. We will be at the hospital in less than a minute,” Nali called over the intercom.
The ship settled onto the ground with barely a bump. My wife is the best pilot around. The back ramp lowered and several people ran aboard, two picked up the father and carried the stretcher off the ship. Two others checked on our other to passengers and quickly led them off and into the hospital.
I was happy that we had managed to save them, but we had more to do.
Nali grabbed my arm roughly and pulled me around to face her. “What the hell was that?”
“I almost lost him.”
“You broke protocol. We never disconnect the tether in a situation like that! What the hell were you thinking?”
“I was thinking that I could not let him die. Not in front of his family.”
“And what of me? I could have seen
you die!” She had tears in her eyes, but they were tears of anger. “You are not immortal. You have a wife and daughter, too.”
“I know. It was a calculated risk,” I replied. “Our SAR suits can take a log of damage before we get hurt, and I had three hours of oxygen. He did not. If I had not gone in after him, he would have died. I was his only hope of surviving. We did not choose this profession because it was safe. We chose it because we felt a calling to save lives.”
“Don’t you die on me.” She grabbed me in a tight hug. “Don’t you dare. I cannot live without you.”
“Don’t say that. You are the strongest person I know. You were strong as steel before I met you. That was why I fell in love with you. And if anything, you are stronger now. You push me to be stronger. If anyone in this universe can survive, it is you.”
“Just… Don’t do that again without warning me. Okay? Promise me.”
“I promise. I will not do something stupid without warning you first.”

2023.03.22 04:04 Good_ApoIIo Radar, ELI5.
Don't just point me to the same youtube tutorial, I've seen them all.
I've got all the bindings, I've tested it a thousand times in test flight (where it mostly works), but it never ever works for me in game. IR missiles? IRST? Locks all day, no problem.
- The biggest problem is I can literally never lock. Different scope ranges, different scope modes, different tilt, pulse doppler, MTI, ACM, head tracking, none of it ever locks. Oh I can lock teammates, for some reason I can lock teammates all day long, any range, no matter the ground clutter its like my IFF is swapped.
- The rare times I do get lock it never tracks. Head on, unaware enemies, doesn't matter the missile veers off 90 from the target or, my favorite, just explodes shortly after launching.
My enemies don't seem to have any of these issues so I'm just going insane trying to figure it out. Oh and I'm talking RB here, I don't really have a problem in sim.

2023.03.22 03:40 hinatasmommymilkers EXTREMELY detailed passport application timeline for locator 79
2/6/23 purchase a last minute flight with the expected travel date of 4/9. Traveling to see my friend before his deployment. His ship date was NOT confirmed at the time but was expecting to be shipping out at the end of April.
2/7/23 applied expedited with 2 day shipping
Travel date is marked as 4/1/23 on my application because I didn’t have my flight information at the time of applying.
2/10/23 -2/15/23 check cashed. unsure of what day.
3/3/23 in process with a 5-7 weeks turn around being stated on the site.
3/10/23 contact Roger Wicker (A Mississippi state senator) and receive no help. The phone women was rude as hell and told me to contact 2 weeks before my travel date if my passport isn’t in hand.
3/15/23 I have a little melt down and start losing it as you can see below 🤦🏼♀️💅🏻
3/15/23 contact Mike Ezell and spoke with his caseworker, Deborah. Extremely prompt the first day. Sent out an inquiry that day. Didn’t hear back about my application until I contacted the office myself to give an update on 3/21/23.
3/15/23 contact Cindy Hyde Smith and spoke with her case worker, Holly Moran. Extremely prompt. Sent out my inquiry via email on that very day. She emailed back whenever I had questions and was very kind. She did politely tell me I needed to stop getting online and calm down. Which is totally valid because i’m an insane worrier.
3/15/23 starting to worry about my passport photo not being approved so I go take another photo and email the scanned copy to Cindy Hydes office. I also started to worry if my application was not expedited in the system even though it states it is on my screen. I see loads of people that are experiencing this in locator 79. I send scanned copies of my of receipts to her so she has all the information when they get back with her office.
(She probably thinks i’m insane at this point. I am)
3/15/23 I download the USPS app and sign up for informed delivery.
I constantly check USPS, my travel state website, reddit, facebook, google. The whole 9. I’m pretty feral at this point. I’m losing sleep. I’m losing my MIND.
I apple map all of the locations of agencies that are no farther than 11 hours from me. Make a list in my phone so i’m prepared for when and if i need to make an appointment.
i’m doomsday planning here.
3/15/23 I reach out to other senators who aren’t even from my state to see if there is anything else I can do. (I’m not filing inquiries with them but getting advice from senators who people have had successes with online) I need advice or anything to appease my mind at this point.
👇🏻 3/21/23 👇🏻
12:35 PM CDT- get an update from my friend overseas that I need to change my flight from 4/9/23 to ASAP because he received a new ship date for deployment. So now I need to change my flight and now i’m really freaking out.
12:50 PM CDT- I pull up google and look at available flights. I keep this page open because i’m scared to waste more money and not get an appointment.
1:15pm CDT- started dialling the 877 number
called 43 times BACK TO BACK (call, dial tone, hangup, repeat) don't hesitate for a second before calling back. I called 43 times in a 4 minute timeframe.
1:18pm CDT I get through and dial 1223 (forgot the last number but it was the option for traveling in less than 2 weeks)
I was on hold for 45 minutes when I finally got though to a super nice worker. I wanted to be super transparent with her so let her know that I haven’t booked the new flight yet but i’m ready to press confirm if she has an appointment available. I told her if that wasn’t allowed or ethical I completely understand. I told her I’d call back again after booking if that is what I needed to do. I have no intention of getting my application flagged for being a fishy person LMAO. She was so super friendly and put me on hold for about 3 minutes. When she gets back to the phone, she lets me know that my application is in the print stage and I can’t book an appointment when i’m in the stage of the process. I ask her if that means i’m approved and what my timeline is looking like. She lets me know it should be fast from that point onwards. I am approved.
I check my online status while on the phone with her and it says “in process” still. She told me to call back tomorrow if my passport status doesn’t change and provide a tracking number by tomorrow morning.
I get off the phone. I’m still freaking out because now I have no idea of the timeline for receiving the passport. It hasn’t been shipped yet but it’s printing. This is the ONE thing I didn’t research because it was completely unexpected.
2:22pm CDT- I check my email and see that Cindy Hydes case worker reached out to me at 1:30pm CDT with a forwarded response from locator 79. The message says my passport photo is fine and will be shipped overnight today. That message was time stamped at 12:52pm CDT.
And now I feel like an idiot for panicking and acting like i’m preparing for doomsday.
9:37pm CDT- passport has been shipped and will be arrive tomorrow at 12pm CDT

Distinction can be noted as it pertains to the hull itself, the interior, or some combination of the two. For example, the F7C-M Super Hornet and the F7C-M Super Hornet Heartseeker are listed as 2 different ships. However, these 2 ships are fundamentally the same. The only differentiating factor between the 2 is the Heartseaker’s slightly upgraded base loadout and skin variant. Because the loadout of the Heartseaker is not a fundamental advantage of the model (because the original Super Hornet can obtain the same loadout by purchasing better weapons), I don't deem it to be a "True" ship. For if one were to strip the Heartseaker of its weapons and livery, it would be indistinguishable from the base F7C-M Super Hornet--their bases are fundamentally the same. Thus only 1 "True Ship" exists among the two. A simple metric to use as a quick mode of deduction references the Masters of Flight Series. Per the Star Citizen Wiki: The Masters of Flight is a ship series created in conjunction with the flight-sim Arena Commander. It is a series of ships that have a different loadout and livery from the stock ship. Any Ship that fails to surpass the level of alterations made to a MoF ship, fails to qualify as a "True" ship. "Unique Hull'' definition: A hull is the base of a ship, not its superstructure. To determine the base and what makes it "unique", I've left a ramble I wrote in response to a commenter asking for the Freelancer Max to be classified as a "Unique Hull": When looking at the base of the Freelancer as a series, the hull consists of everything front of the cargo compartment. In this way, the cargo back-end of the Freelancer is a module element apart of its superstructure. If the basis for determining that a variant is a "Unique Hull '' is solely predicated on external changes to the metrics of a model, then the Cutlass Steel, with its slightly protruding remote aft turret, should qualify. If the basis for determination centers around changes to the body of a vehicle, then the 315p, with its expanded cargo storage and tractor beam, should also qualify as a "Uniquely Hulled" ship. If a ‘Unique Hull’ classification is established upon changes to the internal metric size of a model, then wouldn't the Endeavor classify as a multitude of ships? Would the MPUV series now also be classified as a group of "Uniquely Hulled" ships because their internal metrics change when their modules are swapped? And if one is to make the argument that the Max's classification should be changed, wouldn't one also make the argument that the Taurus must be reclassified, as it features a longer exterior and a (somewhat) revamped and extended interior to boot? Like the Max, the hull--the base of the ship--is fundamentally the same--that deference is my ultimate concern. The added modular elements from both the Max and the Taurus are ultimately inferior--ie. supplemental--to the overwhelming stature of the hull itself. In other words, the hull retains dominance over the minority advancements granted by their subsequent variations. If I were to strip the "hull" of the Freelancer Max, what's left wouldn't have anything in common with the rest of the Freelancer series. What's left--its variational qualities--would fail to present itself as a hull, or anything emblematic of any kind of dominant, vehicular structure. Noting this, it becomes clear the relationship between the hull and its additives. 2023.03.22 03:01 lunch22 Last minute, long weekend in London. How ould I have done better?
New to other award travel and this sub. Hope this post passes moderation and might help other new folks.
Need to go to London from either BOS or BDL arriving 4/15, returning 4/18 or later. Open to return from another city that I can get to by train. Had UR, Delta and United points, plus flight cash credits on United and TAP. Also Marriott points.
Booked Delta BDL-DTW-LHR leaving night of 4/14. Return LHR-ATL-BDL on 4/18.
Cash price was about $1250 economy. Paid 65,000 Delta Skymiles plus $286.
I’ve seen posts where people took a family of four in business class for that. What could I have done better, and is it too late to change anything?

My bar is set pretty high now.
I flew from ATL-HNL today on deltas a50 LATAM. I got offered to upgrade my seats 8 days before check in for $850. for a novice flyer like me, that felt like a lot of money to dish out, but the flight was 11 hrs and I figured it wouldn't hurt to try it once. I was a bit disappointed that the delta one seats were not the suits, but I had no trouble getting comfortable in my seat and grew to enjoy the open layout.
Service was phenomenal, food and drinks were amazing! Only downside is that they didn't have the infamous espresso martini.
I have extreme flight anxiety and usually cannot fall asleep on planes, but I was able to get 7hrs of undesturbed sleep!
Now how am I suppose to go back to main cabin after this 😅

2023.03.22 02:33 Raynosaurus Mystery Bridgeport Plane
| Hey y'all, I was outside in a park late afternoon today and after a few passes I noticed this same plane going back and forth. I had a feeling it was doing some sort of scan, and THEN that suspicion got confirmed because when it flew right over me a freaking giant green laser beam (100ish feet wide) went across the ground like something out of war of the worlds. I looked up the area in flightaware and found this plane flying this pattern. Anyone got an idea what this could have been for? submitted by Raynosaurus to Connecticut [link] [comments] |
2023.03.22 02:31 Tanker3278 Red Storm Rising Google MyMaps
I need some help.
I'm building a series of Google MyMaps of Red Storm Rising. Each map is 10 chapters at a time as MyMaps only allows 10 total layers and I'm making each chapter in the book a layer with plots for all locations mentioned in the story. I will post links once completed with all 43 chapters.
I've already completed Chapters 1 through 14. What I need help with is in Chapter 15. The whole scene when USS Chicago is tracking & listening to the Soviet Delta-III sub. It says the Delta-III left Kola and went down toward (into?) the White Sea going 15 kts at periscope dept the whole way. The description of where Chicago is puts him further into the entrance of the White Sea than the Russian sub is and is very confusing to an old Army Tanker like me.
Can any of you sailors or other smart (non-knuckle-dragging) people DM a simple map I can use to plot locations of where the Chicago, Delta-III, and the other boat are in reference to Mys Svyatov Nos and Kanin Nos, and the entrance to the White Sea?
Sample work so far: Map1, Chapters 1-10

It seems like everyone has a different favorite song from Parallax II, so I'm curious to see how you all would rank the 5 long tracks from the album! Here's mine from least favorite to favorite, keeping in mind that my opinion keeps changing and all of these tracks are at least a 9/10 in my book:
- Melting City
- Lay Your Ghosts to Rest
- Telos

2023.03.22 02:13 surprise_b1tch The Lindbergh Kidnapping: I've done way too much research on this case, and now that's a you problem
You have awoken me from my slumber. I have been summoned from retirement by someone posting about the Lindbergh baby. I cannot sit idly by when conspiracy theories are being spread.
Hi, I’m surprise_b1tch, and you can read my series of posts on the Lindbergh Trial
here, along with a bunch of other write-ups I made back when I had free time. The trial took place in my hometown. It was a part of my fifth grade curriculum. I attended a reenactment at the Historic Flemington Courthouse. I walked by the Courthouse (still standing) and Jail (still standing) and haunted Union Hotel (falling apart while in legal limbo) every day. As you can see, I’m perhaps a little too interested in this case. I was researching it for a while, but ultimately decided that I had nothing to add to what I consider the definitive book on the case,
Hauptmann’s Ladder by Richard T. Cahill Jr. You see, to get anything published on a case as old and as popular as the Lindbergh kidnapping, you need to come up with a juicy new theory - or else no one cares. Books with a fun new theory
sell. If your groundbreaking theory is “everyone is right - Hauptmann did it, and did it alone” - well, no one cares. Good luck getting published. (Honestly, how did Cahill do it?!)
If you want a thorough explanation of the case, I advise reading that book.
In short, I will offer what I consider the most prominent evidence. I’m not going to cite anything, in the interest of time; I’m going to broadly wave at Google, Cahill, and my previous posts to cover my ass. If you have any specific questions I’ll be happy to find sources for you.
Let’s Get Into It: Woodgrain Forensics Don’t Lie The Lindbergh Trial is notable in that it was one of the first cases in the US decided based on forensic evidence. Specifically, this case was decided based on forensic woodgrain analysis.
Look through the photos yourself
here.
Specifically, this woodgrain analysis came from the ladder used in the kidnapping and the wood floorboards of the attic of Hauptmann’s house. Some of the wood used in the ladder was purchased from a lumber mill, however, some of it was made from the floorboards of his house.
That’s right. This wood was
built into Hauptmann’s home. You can view a picture of his attic in the above link. Hauptmann built the ladder out of his own house.
This forensic evidence has been analyzed by modern professionals and is as strong today as it was in 1935: conclusive beyond a reasonable doubt.
For any conspiracy theory to work, Hauptmann had to have been in on it. Hauptmann was caught spending the ransom money, and more of the ransom money was found in his house. Forensic bookkeeping accounted for every penny of the ransom money either being in Hauptmann’s possession or having been spent by Hauptmann in the following years.
If you want to argue that Hauptmann was in on it - well, feel free, but there is absolutely no evidence to support the argument. Nothing was ever found linking Lindbergh and Hauptmann. They had no contact prior to the kidnapping. No phone calls, no letters, no testimony from someone who had ever seen them together. There is no evidence whatsoever.
Was the crime capable of being carried out alone? In a word, yes. It wasn’t that hard. Hauptmann scouted the Lindbergh’s home in advance (his car was seen there multiple times in the weeks/days prior). He knew which window was the nursery - the day of, Anne went for a walk, and waved up to her son as his nanny held him in the nursery window. Hauptmann was probably watching at that time, if he hadn’t already confirmed the location. Hauptmann had observed the family’s routine and knew when the baby would be put to bed.
March 1, 1932 was a windy night, and it would’ve been hard to hear much of anything over the wind outside. Despite this, the Lindberghs actually heard the kidnapping take place - they heard a sound that sounded like a crate in their pantry coming apart. However, they brushed it off and did not investigate.
This was likely the ladder breaking. The ladder was handcrafted by Hauptmann, who was a carpenter. The ladder was built to be as light as possible, and was constructed in three sections, so that it would fit in Hauptmann’s car. However, Hauptmann had calculated the ladder to support just
his weight - not the weight of him and the baby. The ladder broke on his way down, and this is likely when he dropped the baby. I believe this is the point where the baby died, though there's no way to know for sure.
Even if the baby unexpectedly died in the fall, there is no evidence that Hauptmann ever made preparations to keep the baby alive (contrary to what he would tell Lindbergh). There is no evidence as to what his plan was beyond the ransom.
Actions Taken After the Kidnapping This was the year of our Lord 1932, and crime scene forensics were in their infancy - so much so that the police actually botched the taking of fingerprints in the nursery. Lindbergh was an American hero, and the police granted him exceptions they would not have otherwise. That said,
they did not bungle the deciding evidence: the ladder and Hauptmann spending the ransom money. This is what convicted Hauptmann. This is the evidence that still stands strong today.
Was the Baby Deformed? And How Fucked Up Is It That We’re Asking That, Anway? So where did all this bullshit about the baby come from?
Lindbergh was a celebrity. Not just celebrity - he was American
royalty. He was so famous that his celebrity cannot be overstated. Lindbergh made the first solo transatlantic flight, and became a worldwide household name.
Anne, the daughter of a US Ambassador, was not exactly a nobody either. The two of them together were a power couple.
As a result, they were no strangers to the paparazzi. In fact, the two would dress in disguises sometimes just to be able to walk down the street in NYC without being spotted.
Understandably, when Lindbergh had his baby, he wanted to shield him from the spotlight. He gave the paparazzi little access to his son. The paparazzi didn’t like this, so naturally, they speculated wildly about
why Lindbergh wouldn’t give them access to his infant child - because it couldn’t be simply because he wanted some damn privacy. They speculated wildly about all sorts of diseases and malformations. Clearly, Lindbergh needed to be ashamed of his son in order to keep him from the paparazzi. That’s why he wouldn’t let them take pictures of him and stalk him constantly.
It’s giving Michael Jackson making his kids wear masks all the time. Britney Spears attacking a paparazzo with an umbrella. Ah, some things never change!
Here is how disgusting the paparazzi were at that time: when Lindbergh’s son was in the morgue, a paparazzo snuck in and snapped pictures of his deceased, partly skeletal corpse. And published them.
In response to this (it is speculated), Lindbergh ordered the body of his son cremated. He felt that a gravesite would surely be vandalized. I mean, they SNUCK IN THE MORGUE AND TOOK A PICTURE OF HIS DEAD BABY. Who’s to say some whackadoo wouldn’t try to dig up the grave?!
But of course, that just created MORE speculation. He cremated his baby to destroy evidence!!!
Here’s the facts: There is absolutely no evidence, in the autopsy or from testimony of those who cared for the baby, that Charles Jr. had any deformities. I recall reading a quote from his pediatrician saying he was healthy and normal and well-developed, but I do not have time to track it down right now, so I’ll quote from
Hauptmann’s Ladder instead:
The Lindberghs became very secretive about their son as they felt the constant media exposure was not a positive influence. Unfortunately, the attempt to protect him led to numerous rumors that the child was somehow deformed. The media speculated that they were being kept away from the child because Charles Lindbergh was embarrassed about his son’s imperfection. It never occurred to reporters that they were the real reason for the Lindbergh’s overprotectiveness of their child.
…The rumors were so out of control that Charles felt compelled to call a press conference. Five newspaper chains were not permitted to attend as they had actually published stories claiming that the child was deformed. Lindbergh specifically addressed the media about their coverage of his son by saying, “One thing I do hope for him, and that is when he is old enough to go to school, there will be no reporters dogging his footsteps.”
(I’m citing this from an ebook, so no page numbers, sorry, but it’s in Chapter 1.)
I guess you could try to view this as proof that the baby
was deformed, in that the lady doth protest too much. But then… are you really going to argue for the morality of paparazzi?
Betty Gow, the baby's nurse, testified that the child was in perfect health. His mother said the same, and her diaries confirm it. Everyone who ever saw the baby or was in contact with him everyday says he was normal. He hit his milestones.
The baby did have a cold on the day he was kidnapped. But that was it: a normal cold that normal children get. Betty Gow rubbed Vick’s on his chest before she put him to bed.
So, which is more likely: the baby was hideously deformed with no evidence of this, or paparazzi are just evil, merciless creatures who wouldn’t leave the Lindberghs alone?
The baby had one deformity, so tiny that it didn’t impact anything: two of his toes overlapped. It wouldn’t prohibit him from walking or anything. He just had funny-looking toes. This was part of how they identified the body. You can see it in the pictures of his corpse. I don’t recommend looking them up, but you do you.
In Conclusion The evidence is incontrovertible: Hauptmann did it. Whatever claims you’re going to make, he has to be in on it.
Was Charles Lindbergh a nasty little eugenist? Yes, but I hate to break it to you: it was the 1930s. A lot of people were. It was considered the “enlightened” stance at the time. You know who else supported eugenics?
Helen Keller, I shit you not. Liking Nazis (again, not unpopular at the time:
Hitler appeared in Homes & Gardens magazine in 1938) does not mean Lindbergh murdered his son.
Here’s the truth: the crime wasn’t that hard to do. All you needed was eyes, maybe binoculars, and a ladder. Hauptmann just got lucky. And honestly? Not that lucky. It was the 1930s. There wasn’t any security. Just a big old house in the middle of nowhere.
Lock your windows, kids. Good night!

2023.03.22 02:12 daycheck So many delayed flights, anyone know what's going on?
2023.03.22 02:01 AloneExamination242 PQP Accrual details for economy plus bundle not listed on receipt or in app? Has anyone seen this before?
So I just booked a short trip (round trip ORD-EWR) and purchased the "economy plus bundle" add-on for each flight.
According to United's FAQ, accruals for that are supposed to be listed on my receipt. (I'm tracking this closely because I'm trying to time status, hah, see a previous post.)
But I just looked at my receipt. Total base fare is just under $275, taxes and fees another fifty, and then the economy plus bundles are $166. But the receipt lists my total PQP accrual as only 275. Same is true when I look in the app.
Has anyone seen this before/is this normal? I'm gunning for status aggressively, so I want to be on top of this...

2023.03.22 01:50 Ecstatic_Brick5693 Look at this piece of US Airforce masterpiece.
2023.03.22 01:31 seyoum14 Do people really book 10 months in advance?
I'm looking at using my companion fare before it expires by doing Seattle - Puerto Vallarta. Naturally, I want to avoid Seattle winters so I was looking at booking it 10 months away in January. To my surprise, prices have already started going up.
Is this because Alaska is already seeing bookings come in for this route? Do people really book that far out in advance? I'm also MVP gold 75k so I'd really prefer to stay on Alaska for the segments even though there's a Delta flight for almost have the price. I'm trying to find a reason to make this flight make sense but I might just use my companion fare for something else and pull the trigger on the Delta flight.

2023.03.21 23:52 srk6 Not earning Miles/MQMs/MQDs for oartner airlines
Hi, I'm new to Delta and flew Delta/AF for the first time in Jan-Feb.
Booked an intl two-way tickets on Delta to Asia with a layover in CDG. I have completed the two-way travel in Feb. Out of the 4 flights, 2 were operated by Delta and 2 by AF. At the time of booking, it showed that I would earn roughly 8K miles, 18000 MQMs, and 1400 MQDs.
But when I checked in my Delta account, I only saw around 3300 miles, 6900 MQMs, and 620 MQDs.
I tired to claim miles using the option in my account and from the points table, there was a mark that said, I didn't earn miles/mqm/mqd for the flights operated by AF as I received miles to my flying blue account for the flights operated by AF. I checked my flying blue account, and I see about 4K miles.
I have one more trip booked through Delta in June with a mix of Delta and AF flights.
How do I earn all the miles to my Skymiles and not to flying blue account? Is it possible to earn MQMs/MQDs for partner airlines.
