2023.03.22 06:35 CommunicationSolid77 Sense for adventure/ exploring is gone as we age?

I'm behind in life. 37 yo female- I feel I just was 27 yesterday living my best life- but I'm clinging to that happy time so bad, and I really cant get that back it seems.

Ive swapped careers, gave up everything to become a flight attendant after being a teacher, had the time of my life, and now moved back home in an apartment by myself to do nursing school, no SO , no kids, the love of my life is a rescue pup..... my early 20s for 10 years how is it, all these years passed since moving home 6 years ago and im just going further down the drain? I'm 37 and used to be so filled with adventure, exploring, everything- sit home alone now, even terrified to go get a cup of coffee by myself. All I want is to be that care free "girl" I was. I would love to go try some fancy martinis in the city I know how to get to park- like its nothing compared to me moving cross country and just being free. I dont have friends here anymore, I used to thrive on being that free spirit girl who did everything on a whim- now I am turning into an old women whos lost her sense of adventure.
Ive made lists of like places within a 10 mile radius to go try for a dinner, bought tickets to shows... but come time to go- I get so filled with anxiety I stay home.
Ive talked to therapists, but took a break. I wonder if anyone was like this too.

2023.03.22 06:21 Normal-Inevitable157 Why Xenoblade 3 is not as good as one or two (The villains Part One-Metal face)

Disclaimer- these are my opinions, and everyone has a right to their opinion. so, if you want to debate this and say everything I just said is wrong put it in the comments. Don't just spam hate messages. (I had to add this afterward because people get triggered to much.)
Okay lets first get this out of the way Xenoblade 3 villains are not bad they are just not as good as 1 or 2. (This thread contains spoilers for Xenoblade 1 and 3)
So, In 3 the main villains are moebius and in 2 they are Torna and in 1 they are Mechon/Zanza and Gang. In three all of the villains are well very repetitive with you fighting anther faceless moebius with really no heart. (N and M are an exception) For example When defeating moebius O and P there really was no payoff story wise to defeating them. With most of moebius seeming just like a bunch of goons who are evil to be evil who have no real reoccurrence in the story prior to beating them making it feel like you could switch all of the moebius around in the story (Except of N) and the story would not change. Compare that to 1 where the villain metal face drives the plot instead of in 3 where the plot drives the villains. Speaking about metal face he is a great example of what the moebius should have been. Metal face as you know is the driving factor in why sSulk leaves colony 9 and goes on the adventure. Metal Face is also treated like he is a real threat in the story and gameplay because the monado can't hurt him. But in 3 they just kill a moebius and move on with their lives. All of the set up to metal face as a villain gives that big payoff when you finally kill him which makes the player happy, makes the characters happy, while also marking a major shift in themes in 1 to focus less on the recurring theme or revenge. This change in theme also sets up the Zanza reveal to show that the player and main cast where the ones in the wrong and were the ones helping the true villain this whole time. While in 3 killing a moebius doesn't really change the story much or Z.

Time: 12:00 PST to 15:00 PST Frequency: Wednesday Weekly Date of Session Zero: 3/22/2023 Looking for: 5 Players Platform: Foundry, using Discord for Voice Books allowed: Any as long as official and no Homebrew
Hello! I'm Juan (He/Him 25). I've been playing for 2-3 years and dming for almost a year and a half
In the city of Neverwinter, a dwarf named Gundren Rockseeker asked you to bring a wagonload of provisions to the rough-and-tumble settlement of Phandalin, a couple of days' travel southeast of the city. Gundren was clearly excited and more than a little secretive about his reasons for the trip, saying only that he and his brothers had found "something big," and that he'd pay you ten gold pieces each for escorting his supplies safely to Barthen's Provisions, a trading post in Phandalin. He then set out ahead of you on horse, along with a warrior escort named Sildar Hallwinter, claiming he needed to arrive early to "take care of business."
You've spent the last few days following the High Road south from Neverwinter, and you've just recently veered east along the Triboar Trail.
You've encountered no trouble so far, but this territory can be dangerous. Bandits and outlaws have been known to lurk along the trail.
Lost Mine of Phandelver is an adventure for four to five characters of 1st level. During the course of the adventure, the characters will advance to 5th level. The adventure is set a short distance from the city of Neverwinter in the Sword Coast region of the Forgotten Realms setting. The Sword Coast is part of the North—a vast realm of free settlements surrounded by wilderness and adventure. Over the course of the adventure, you and your party members will discover vast treasures, unearth centuries old mysteries, and come into your own as fledging adventurers.
Thanks for reading and if you're interested feel free to apply below by your preferred name, discord ID, a fact or two about you and experience with how long you played DnD 5e and Foundry!

2023.03.22 06:12 drbiohazmat Thinking about the future of the series.

So I was thinking, "next year is the grand 20th anniversary, and likely will have the main series team release or reveal a new entry for 6th gen." But then after a while, I realized, what would that entail? What comes after 6th gen? Or during? Will main and portable teams start having to different styled games up at once, or will we continue going back and forth between ever increasingly different takes on the series? Will spinoffs get more adventures or die down?
It's all clearly a very much in their control kind of situation where we can only wait and see, but honestly I just wanted a justified excuse to share what I'd expect and like to see.
Firstly, I think it's best I keep it realistic. I expect Q3 of this year to announce a new generation of Monster Hunter coming to PS5 and Xbox mid to late next year, likely playing very similarly to world but with some locales returning throughout the series as well as a functioning leviathan skeleton with the reveal of Lagiacrus. That's what I imagine at the very least. At most they'll include a classic village, the addition of a new or MMO/Spinoff exclusive weapon, another MMO exclusive monster, and maybe some kind of design contest for layered armor or weapons. I genuinely can't imagine it being any further than that. After all, the main series team prefers to be more grounded and traditional (aside from changing the formula for World to appeal to the west).
As for spin-off and external media content, since it's 20th anniversary onwards, I 100% imagine they'll try again at a MonHun mobile game, likely more in line with a turn base gacha featuring palicos in different armor sets. I can also see another Stories game and possibly a new genre they haven't done before. I can see them also trying to do more collaborations with other companies for merchandise, apparel, and maybe a celebratory anime webseries like other games tend to do.
And that's all what I can imagine being at least plausibly realistic. Now in terms of less realistic and more what I want... I can easily say I'd want them to announce a new 6th gen game with an MMO dynamic in being able to see many other hunters in a community hub, have plenty of content added regularly over time like Frontier did, and possibly the return of Prowlers or Hunter Arts from XX/GU. It could work with an expansion every year or two that adds new locales, monsters, and skills.
Outside of mainline, I would love to see them manage a successful TCG or a MOBA where you play as the monsters themselves. And definitely a nice shirt line like Pokémon has.
So with all that said, I'd like to see anyone else's thoughts on what you expect, want, or just your thoughts on my comments here.

2023.03.22 06:12 Phidwig Jake is a fantastic character

Recently finished the series for the first time. I love him. As a kid I found him somewhat boring, but as an adult I find him the most interesting. He is an incredibly well developed character for a kids series, and for half of the series being ghost written and all the filleinconsistencies/plot devices used… (Like they could have gotten the cube from Tom easily without killing him wtf)
He really is just one of my favorite characters in general now, across all storytelling mediums. In the last couple of books he kinda bothered me a little bit, leaving a sour feeling with me but at the same time the character progression made sense and I enjoyed seeing him finally start to lose it/go off the deep end.
But overall he’s humble, just and fair, intelligent and quick, caring, wise, kind, brave, ruthless, and has a sense of humor, is able to laugh at himself.
Second favorite would be Marco (he was my fav as a kid). He has a lot of those qualities as well. They all do. But Jake just seems like the most well fleshed out character. As a kid I loved Tobias, still do, but he’s not actually that complex (even dealing with being the orphan bird boy)… not in as nuanced a way as Jake, or Marco. (The girls were kinda done dirty overall imo)
I suppose you could consider Jake “the main character” even tho they all are, but really it’s him, starts and ends with him. And in a lot of fiction, or YA fiction maybe, authors/screenwriters struggle for some reason with the main character and make them bland and unlikeable. Kudos to JK and her husband for creating such a likable and intriguing, realistic, complex main character.
Didn’t they name their child Jake? Is it because they love the character that much too? Kinda strange lol, but cool?

2023.03.22 06:11 magnemattix Kidnapping goes wrong in the most chaotic way possible

Hey fellow crablings, and hopefully CritCrab if you’re reading this! I wanna start off by saying this isn’t a horror story, but more of just a chaotic session in general. Also I’m writing this after the session just ended, but this session has been the best, most unhinged gameplay I’ve ever witnessed.
It all starts with getting into this homebrew campaign of magical girls, think of sailor moon like, a few months ago at my college. We’ve only had a few sessions due to some scheduling issues but so far it’s been such a blast to see our little group band together and have some fun.
I guess I should also say the player characters of this story as well to make things easier, but there’s:
-Rover(me, a halfling bard who is a pacifist) -Ken(a human cleric turned woman due to a magical mishap) -Amelie(a human Druid) -Silkie(a cat Druid that can take the form of a tabaxi)
Well, after we’ve had some fun and adventures in this magical city parallel to the human realm, we get some information related to the backstory of two of our party members and with it a quest to kidnap the leader of a criminal organization. We all spent the next hour joking around and planning the kidnapping given the intel of someone on the inside. The leader, a small child who stayed young using a magical elixir, was to head to the bathrooms on the second floor to take her medicine, being guarded by her 7’5” Goliath body guard. I joked that I would distract her in a “meet cute” kind of way as my party snuck in and took out the leader. But, then the cleric found out he has a ceremony spell of some sort that allows for marriage between two willing creatures, and so a new plan was put into action.
THE PLAN
Amelie, using some stealth would use create water on top of the guard drenching her dress, and Rover, dressed as a server, would run to her aid and help her get dried up and dressed in a wedding dress that we had stashed beforehand. All the while I had Ken enhance ability my charisma checks so I could ensure I could rizz up this guard and lead her away from our real target.
(A little background about my character before I continue. Rover is heavily inspired by Wander from the Disney cartoon show Wander over Yonder, and thus he is influenced from many aspects of his life. He’s a pacifist, friendly, do-gooder, with a heart of gold. He always sees the best in people and will always do what he needs to help, even in bizarre situations(like marrying a random guard). He is also insanely good at Persuasion and Deception due to him being a College of Eloquence bard, so at this time the lowest possible check of those two would be a 17, so he could always put his friendly aura into good use. Anyways, back to the story…)
After Rover, Ken, and the guard go to a separate room away from the party and guests, the other two, Silkie and Amelie are to incapacitate and sneak out the leader from the bathroom and out to the balcony, where they have flying brooms waiting to fly them out to our hideout. All the while Rover gets married to the guard, with help from our cleric.
THE KIDNAPPING
So we all arrive to this mansion in the summoned car from our cleric, and enter being checked by the guards(one of which is undercover). Rover begins to work as a server on the second floor, as the two druids sneak around and the cleric goes to my aid with the guard. A few persuasion checks later, and with a dress and a ring I get married to this guard. And as we kiss, she reveals some startling information…
SHES PRETENDING TO BE THE GUARD, AND IS ACTUALLY THE LEADER OF THE CRIMINAL ENTERPRISE!
(Although as we are married she does explain that she hates her family and wants to run away with me, so I’m hoping this is a story of redemption and Rover can be by her side, married or not, he won’t let her down.)
And that’s where the session ended, and the whole party freaked out to this realization, but only half our party actually knows this in game as the two druids are working on what they assume to still be the plan with kidnapping the other woman. We also don’t meet up for another week, but if there’s anything else to update on, I’ll let y’all know!
TLDR: Our party sets a plan for my character to marry someone as a distraction so they can kidnap the leader of a criminal syndicate, but ends up marrying the leader on accident.

2023.03.22 06:04 tjt142 I need help, goddamnit.

I've been scribbling stories (Novels, novellas, short story collections) for quite a few years now, and self publishing. I've got a company who is enthusiastic about and has been publishing everything I write (11 books to date) for free. Why? Because I'm a Literary Prizewinner and I can actually write. I write what most consider to be unusual/off the wall stories (which, to me, is a definite plus) choosing subjects I consider need to explored, shining a light where it need to be shone, reflecting the screwed up world we live in, where a kind heart and good intentions are most likely to get you mugged, exploited and generally taken advantage of by the multitudes of unscrupulous bastards out there in the world looking after number one. Oops, I have digressed already.
The point of this missive is to explain that, regardless of a stack of great reviews for my work and the fact that all who read my offerings much enjoy them, I am unable to gain ground and let the world know that I and my work exist. The reason? The entire literary machine is based on gouging the pockets of we writers who produce the material on which the multi billion dollar empire sits. Yes, we not only supply the material but must pay enormous sums over time just to get noticed. This end of the industry is one enormous leach, sucking the life blood from all who, as artists, are driven to create the best possible stories we can possible conjure. Because of the way things are rigged, I have a stack of, in some cases exceptional, work, sitting collecting dust as so many other authors do, and as someone existing on a disability pension the chances of me ever making dollar one for my efforts are about zero, purely because I cannot possibly find the necessary money to promote this collection.
As a last and desperate measure I am swallowing my pride, as much for the benefit of my everlovin' and longs suffering wife as to the principal of getting what I consider as absolutely worthy material out into the world, and, hopefully, in the process dragging us both out of this poverty trap.
So, Yes, you guessed it. I am looking for a well heeled philanthropist with an interest in literature, writing and publishing (art, in fewer words), and, hopefully, who would like to eyeball what I have been producing these past 25 -30 years, and to perhaps help get the ball rolling as far as finding a filmmaker and/or mainstream publisher to do their bit and get this material, in its finished form, to the deserving public. And when I say deserving, I'm implying that the consumers, the readers, moviegoers and movie viewers of this world deserve a whole lot better than what companies such as NetFlix and others have been rolling out. There is so much good material lying in wait, written by so many skillful, deeply thoughtful and deserving writers, but which will likely never see the light of day for no other reason than the inability of the factory styled, greed based function of the entertainment industry of the 21st Century. And if it continues this way the public are going to be left with only second and third rate material currently pouring out of the machine for no better reason than those creators/writers succeeding are the ones with sufficient wherewithal to push their material through to the end. It's everybody loss, I promise you.

2023.03.22 05:56 Char10tti3 Plot hole or Avatar 3 plot - Are they sending back the Amrita to the humans on Earth which will take 6+ years, or keeping it on Pandora, luring the elite to the new cities and getting the money there? I lean towards the latter with the A4 time-jump, and would be fun to see the RDA vs other humans.

So I just thought about this in more depth, and I thought originally they'd be sending the Amrita off to Earth for the money it's worth, but that doesnt really make as much sense as making Pandora the new home for the elite and having the Amrita waiting there for them.
They're already setting up the cities and Ardmore says in that one year of new technology and the RDS switching from mining to making Pandora the new home for humanity.
If they're setting this up, then they might already have humans on the way to live in these cities and sending the Amrita back to a dying planet makes a lot less sense. Jim has said that theres a in-universe reason why they're not synthesising Amrita on earth and other than the Tulkun being way more complex than the Na'vi in many ways, it might just be our stupid human shortsightedness and want to capitalise on this without other people getting their hands on it. They literally left all of Roa's body and would have just sunk her if they didn't want to get Jake's attention.
I think that during the time gap, we'll get the new human elite arriving with the promise of Amrita and chance to live life on Pandora all over again, forgetting how bad life on Earth was.
Other than this, I think the Ash Na'vi might have a hand in cleaning the space for them and then be caught up in labour, working for the RDA who have then taken control over their own resources.
Also I have an idea kf a large plot point of fire haze being really low due to the air density, which damages the ecosystem due to photosynthesis not taking place and the eclipse not being seen, but might help the coral reefs and bring back the Metkayina in full force, but that's just from my brain wanderings.

2023.03.22 05:48 Dummy-Brat Two acquaintances (24F-25F) admitted that I (24F) came in too strong in our interactions and I’m trying to figure out a response.

In my current living and working situation, I still live with my folks in bumfuck middle of nowhere and work a job that has me working 5 nights out of the week. Thus, it really cuts into my social time with other people (both via hangout hours and distance) and I try to go all out in meeting and interacting with people whenever I can.
I’ve been very thankful to have met some people who have been very cool and gracious to me throughout our past interactions. I’ve seen them in group settings a number of times, had them over to my house, and had a 1-on-1 adventure with one of them in the past half of the year.
However, I think the past time we all hung out had me cross some boundaries with them. While I made little Valentine’s gifts for the entire groups, my behavior would’ve been more well-received by people who knew me better (i.e. making a crude joke at one of their expenses). I immediately regretted it after saying it and it not landing, but I didn’t have the courage to apologize in the heat of the moment.
After that event, I reached out to both of them separately if they wanted to do something, but I didn’t either didn’t hear back or they told me they were busy. I didn’t follow up or double-text to be courteous, but I was already dreading and got upset at myself even more for my behavior at the last event.
Fast forward to tonight where the one that ghosted me texted me back long messages. I didn’t want to read the entire thing as I’m not ready to respond, but the gist is the following:
a) I’m a super sweet and amazing person, but they either feel like the friendship jumped forward too fast or before they were ready b) They find it hard to be straightforward to people they don’t know very well, which can lead to their boundaries being crossed and pushed (this message was too long for my preview to catch the whole thing) c) I can talk to the other acquaintance for another perspective (which means they’re also aware of the situation) d) They don’t know how to go about this themselves, but they preferred expressing their feelings versus not addressing them because of my good intentions.
Needless to say, I am pretty bummed receiving those messages, though I’m grateful that they reached out and shared this with me. I know I’d be more hurt if they haven’t and I don’t blame them at all for feeling this way.
I’m now just stuck on how to respond. I want to express my own feelings without invalidating them and I really would like to be friends with them in the future if and when they’re ready. It also bites since I’m attending an event that they’re going to in 2.5 weeks. How should I go about this?
TLDR; 2 acquaintances were upfront about me going too fast in the friendship and I need help with a response.

2023.03.22 05:39 CapybaraCavalcade Flight arrives @ KEF at 4:30am—need advice!

Our flight will be arriving in Reykjavik at 4:30am. Even counting the time it will take to collect our bags, go through customs, and pick up our car rental, we will still be hotel-less as early as 6am, and check in for our hotel is not until 3pm. Any suggestions for how to handle this? Hang out at a cafe with early hours? Pay for a hotel room at an airport hotel the night before and get some rest there and possibly request late check out? We will have kids with us so we are not keen on the idea of them sleeping for ~4-5 hours on the plane and then trying to drag them to sites and adventures right away. Any suggestions welcome!
