2023.06.03 00:06 lC3 Heroic Age Rewatch Interest Thread

Information: MAL, Anilist, AniDB, ANN
Hi all! I'm LC3, and following my and Sky's successful Naruto, Naruto Shippuden, and Tales of Symphonia rewatches, I wanted to co-host a rewatch for Heroic Age. I hope to convince you to join me in (re)watching!
What is Heroic Age?
Synopsis from MAL:
When the Golden Race invited other races to join them in the stars, three sentient races answered their call. The Goldens called them the Bronze, Silver and Heroic Tribes. Just before the Gold Tribe left to travel to another Universe, a fourth race appeared, traveling to the stars on their own accomplishments. The Golds named the human race the Iron Tribe. During the passing of time, humanity suffers at the hands of the more dominant races and is now facing extinction. Following a prophecy left by the Gold Tribe, Princess Dhianeila sets out to search for the powerful being who might be able to save humankind. She meets a wild haired boy on an abandoned planet—a fateful encounter that will not only change the fortunes of Humanity, but also the fate of the universe.
Heroic Age is an epic scifi space opera from 2007, written and created by Tow Ubukata and Studio Xebec. If aliens, adventure, mecha battles, prophecy, spaceships and interstellar travel are your thing, give Heroic Age a shot!
Why watch Heroic Age?
Though Heroic Age is neither hugely popular nor highly ranked on MAL, it is a hidden gem with a great soundtrack by Naoki Satou and OP by angela. This is a complete work in 26 episodes; there is no manga or LN source material, and it ends conclusively.
Schedule:
This will be one-a-day starting on July 5, running for 26 days plus a final series discussion on July 31st. Episode threads will be posted around 6 PM Eastern. Due to my work schedule I will be unable to post most of them, so Sky has graciously volunteered to co-host. I will still be posting and replying to people once I get home from work.
Spoiler Policy:
To protect first-timers, please don't spoil anything past the current episode. Rewatchers should avoid hinting to first-timers, and spoilers in posts must be hidden behind proper spoiler tags.
Conclusion:
If all goes well, this will be my first time cohosting a one-a-day since I started working, so I'm open to suggestions / changes if anyone has any they'd like to share. Pending interest, I'll post the announcement thread and full schedule soon.
Streams: Crunchyroll, Funimation, Hulu (all premium)

2023.06.03 00:00 Mjm166773 Alternate Dominion Ending

Since the Page has been slow I decided reupload my alternative Dominion ending.
I truly feel the Final battle in dominion was really unnecessary, nice visually but didn't really connect to the story for it to be this epic battle. I feel writers couldn't really figure out a way to wrap up the film so the best they could do is have the new dinosaur battle the returning dinosaur. Kinda seems like a cheap conclusion. I was expecting this grand finale and didn't get that.
I posted this ending in different post with other changes to Dominion that I would have liked incorporated.
ENDING T-REX and THERIZINOSAURAUS VS GIGA OMITTED
When Alan, Maisie and Owen go to find Beta, Maisie is again recaptured by Dodgson. Dodgson holds one of the stun guns to Maisie's neck. He offers to trade Maisie for Beta. Alan tries distract Dodgson while the Pyro-raptor approaches Dodgson from behind. The Pyro raptor leaps to attack Dodgson The Raptor goes for Dodgson's leg it latches on to his pants leg, Dodgson stuns the raptor. Maisie is able to slip get away from Dodgson in that moment. As the Pyro raptor attempts to get back up and charge Dodgson again he is able to slip away and limp through another lab door using his bracelet escaping. He sneaks off and makes his way to Amber mine train.
Pyro raptor shakes it's feathers and faces his attention to Alan Maisie and Owen. Owen aims the his tranquilizer gun at the pyro raptor just as he is about to shoot Malcolm and Ramsay enter the room Owen shoots but no tranqs are left. Suddenly a loud bang is heard and glass breaks, the large windows to the facility breaks and the dinosaurs that were summoned all come charging inside the building. Laboratory furniture and equipment begins to fly across room due to the wild dinosaurs running around aimlessly. The pyro raptor slightly distracted draws it's attention back to Owen, Alan, Maisie, Malcolm and Ramsay. Out of no where a Pteranodon swoops inside and lifts the pyro raptor off the ground attempting to fly off with the pyro raptor in it's claws. The pyro fights back in the air biting and clawing at the Pteranodon. The Pteranodon releases the raptor. The Pyro raptor is dropped from a large height and dropped on a lab table with beakers and test tubes filled with colored chemicals. but the pyro raptor regains footing and turns it's focus again to the group again. Above Claire and Ellie enter from the upper level of the facility and look down and see the danger occurring just below. just as the pyro raptor positions itself to attack, Claire uses the ax( the same ax she used to crash the system) and cuts some wall cables that are holding up the large light fixture. The large Fixture crashes down with bright burst on top of the pyro raptor crushing it. Claire says to Ellie that's one more point for women.

The group begins to head outside to head to the plane to meet Kayla. When they walk outside to their surprise total chaos has ensued (think ALL OUT DINOSAUR WAR). Dinosaurs are fighting, crashing in and out the facility, Biosyn vehicles being launched in the air by dinosaurs. The group continues to make their way to the plane trying to avoid charging dinosaurs and flying debris from the chaos of all the dinosaurs in one location. The T-rex approaches, the rex is standing between the Plane and the group. The group must make their way to the plane while also avoiding the rex. Two nearby fighting stegosaurus knock over a large metal platform almost crushing the group. Kayla yells to the group it's now or never they run from under the platform. Just as they move from under the platform the rex's foot crushes down on the platform as it pursues the group running to the plane. Wu falls to the ground while running to the plane and Alan and Malcolm help him up, just as they get Wu off the ground the rex leans down and attempts to chomp at Wu barley missing him. The rex lets out a loud roar. The group manages to make it to the plane safely, now the problem is that they need a clear runway so the plane can take off. The rex is blocking the only clear path for them to take off. Kayla shoots the flare gun to get the rex out of the way. The rex retreats and our survivors escape.
Followed by Dodgson's death scene.

This ending maybe cheesy to some but like Alan said the ending battle has nothing to so with our main protagonist so kind of seems pointless and serves no purpose to have the battle at the ending seems undeserved. Plus I wanted the Giga t live so we could see him/her again. These ending battles always make Rexy look weak. This ending also features more dinosaurs which would help with some complaints about their not being enough dinosaur action and this seemed appropriate with the dominion showing them dominating the sanctuary. Let me know what you think or if you have an alternate ending in mind.

2023.06.03 00:00 autotldr Supreme Court Just Lowered Protection for Wetlands Leaving Many Valuable Ecosystems at Risk

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 85%. (I'm a bot)
The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled in Sackett v. EPA that federal protection of wetlands encompasses only those wetlands that directly adjoin rivers, lakes and other bodies of water.
The Supreme Court has previously recognized that the "Waters of the United States" include not only navigable rivers and lakes, but also wetlands and waterways that are connected to navigable bodies of water.
LISTEN: Supreme Court hears arguments on whether certain wetlands are protected by the EPA. Acknowledging that wetlands present a tricky line-drawing problem, Scalia proposed that the Clean Water Act should reach "Only those wetlands with a continuous surface connection to bodies that are waters of the United States in their own right."
WATCH: Supreme Court decision weakens EPA authority, scales back scope of Clean Water Act.
The court's requirement of a continuous surface connection means that federal protection may no longer apply to many areas that critically affect the water quality of U.S. rivers, lakes and oceans - including seasonal streams and wetlands that are near or intermittently connected to larger water bodies.
Congress could amend the Clean Water Act to expressly provide that "Waters of the United States" includes wetlands that the court has now stripped of federal protection.

2023.06.02 23:59 CazOnReddit Alright, Let's Talk About the 3rd Pick & a Potential Siakam Trade With Portland

Alright, Let's Talk About the 3rd Pick & a Potential Siakam Trade With Portland
So have you heard that the Blazers are looking to shop around the 3rd pick and Anfernee Simons for a star forward? Yeah, let's finally get into this.
The Blazers lucked themselves into a rather unique position, both with the pick they got - having jumped from 5th to 3rd in the draft - and with the team who managed to get the 2nd pick being the Charlotte Hornets who are likely to draft forward Brandon Miller over G League Ignite guard Scoot Henderson, with Scoot seemingly falling to 3.
This would make Scoot the 2nd young guard the Blazers recently drafted and their 3rd under 25 guard to play next to Dame...if they weren't trying to shop the pick around.
They have a perfect opportunity to finally do a rebuild...and yet, here we are with yet another rumor about the Blazers trying to build around Dame and get him the help they've left him without for...what, 8 seasons and counting? Like the Rockets who are alleged to be interested in moving the 4th pick, I don't think the Blazers really should be trying to do a two timelines, pseudo rebuild while contending around Lillard.
I also don't think the package they can put together is as great as it's often hyped up to be. As we'll get into, a package around Anfernee and the 3rd pick plus a player or pick or two is quite decent in a vacuum but it certainly isn't good enough to get to get you that Top 10-15 player in the league who can singlehandedly win you a series - if not, a championship. It certainly isn't enough to outbid the likes of the Jazz or, more significantly, the Thunder who may opt for a splash in the offseason as their core develops into a young, hungry playoff team with some greater veteran presence around them.
I'm just going to say it: If Portland really is saying "time's up" and putting together one last effort to compete against Dame, they need to do more than get Siakam, O.G., Karl-Anthony Towns or whichever star's name pops up in rumors leading up to the draft. Not to say those players won't improve the team, but none of them - and yes i'm including Siakam - are good enough to elevate a former lottery team like the Blazers over the past 2 seasons to a Top 3 seed, let alone guarantee a championship.
A duo of Siakam and Dame, Dame and KAT, etc. can be part of one's core championship team but they need the right supporting pieces around them in order to win. To put it mildly, the Blazers...do not have that. Jusuf Nurkic has seen significant regression as a defender and the bench is one of the few to make the Raptors bench look like a bastion of basketball greatness. It shows on the floor and statistically, and it's a large reason why the Blazers have been one of the worst defensive teams in the league over the past, one of the worst when it comes to rebounding and in general being near the bottom of the Western Conference before they pulled the plug on their most recent season in an attempt to tank for a Top 4 pick.
If the Blazers are actually going to commit to Dame, they need to engage in a paradigm shift this offseason. Rework the starting 5, the bench and go all-in getting Loyalty McLoyal the team he should have had around him for years instead of endlessly running it back with minor tweaks to who his #2 is.
That means either getting your pick back from the Bulls and shopping the 4 firsts/3 swaps you can or removing the protections and dealing out the 3/3 you would have to improve the roster. Don't just get Siakam, KAT or whoever and set them up to fail with Damian because it's not fair to either player to put them in that situation.
Go after Buddy Hield, see if Myles Turner or Clint Capela are going to be available, or if the Wolves are desperate enough to sign and trade Naz Reid to recoup some assets after the costly Gobert trade - if not, try signing him with the full MLE. And you don't stop there! However they plan to shake up the roster in this hypothetical scenario, they need to significantly improve the center position/rotation and their bench to give Dame an actual chance of winning a ring with what few years left they have in his prime.
Also fire Chauncey Billups, he's a bottom 3 coach and the only reason I can't say he is not the worst is because I can't say the Raptors coach will be objectively worse/better without knowing who will head either team. He isn't 3rd, that's for sure.
But anyway that's the Blazers prerogative. What exactly could the Raptors see in a potential pick that, presumably, revolves around Pascal Siakam?
Since I can be a bit of a wordy writer, i'm going to add some TL;DR sections for each playepick discussed in this little piece for those that want a quick breakdown.
Note: This is not a trade proposal; this is a compilation of the assets and players who could be included in a trade for Pascal Siakam. Additionally, this is not an endorsement of trading Pascal Siakam, etc. in a deal with the Portland Trailblazers.
Anfernee Simons
https://preview.redd.it/eon5unll7d3b1.png?width=640&format=png&auto=webp&s=2873b3d89092d0e0c221ee9817335918489f2e7e
The main player who's been the subject of a contentious discussion between Blazers fans and Raptors fans. Whether you think he's overrated, underrated or somewhere inbetween, it is undeniable that Anfernee Simons would have to be included in the trade at minimum.
I can't speak for the Blazers and I won't pretend to speak for all Raptors fans so let me just say this: I like Anfernee Simons. He's one of the more exciting players in the league under 25 even if he doesn't have the same ceiling as a guy like Zion or fellow player nicknamed "Ant" Anthony Edwards.
A borderline All-Star guard with a combination of shooting prowess and explosiveness, he had a breakout season in 2021/22 when Dame went down due to an injury and thus became the Blazers lead point guard in his absence. He's a genuine 3-level scorer who can splash from outside, pressure the rim for a high-flying dunk and he's effective in the midrange too. If nothing else, it cannot be overstated how nice it would be for this team to have another player who's a reliable, 38.7% from 3 volume shooter on a roster so thoroughly lacking in outside shooting
And before you say it, yes, Anfernee Simons is a point guard. This isn't a case like CJ where his skillset is that of a 2 who can do some playmaking but shouldn't run your offense, Simons does have some issues with dribbling the air out of the ball before making a pass, but he is a point guard. He isn't a typical point, operating more as a shoot-first point like Lillard, but he's still capable of cracking out a notable number of assists while getting buckets; he dished out 6 dimes a game with nearly 28 points in the games he's played without Dame as the lead point.
All 11 of them last year.
https://preview.redd.it/nwhosg3d8d3b1.png?width=1945&format=png&auto=webp&s=8d01cd6a71d032cf5e3bab941c00fc942148991c
Yeah, you might have seen some posts or stats online of what Simons has done without Damian Lillard; in his breakout season of 2021/22, the Anferno was putting up a similar number of assists and cracked 20 points per game, albeit over a more significant sample size of 30 games. And in 2022/23, Anfernee Simons put up 27.9/2.9/5.7 (2.4 turnovers so an AST/TO of 2.38:1 which is solid) while shooting a staggering 41% from 3 on 11 3s.
Those numbers are impressive in a vacuum; his true shooting of 62% is especially notable. However, they require some context and should be taken with an enormous grain of salt.
For one, it's a very small sample size over a lengthy period of the season where teams haven't had to plan for Simons to be the main guard to focus their defense on. He's still the 2nd option so it's not like there's no film watching or the like, but if Anfernee Simons permanently becomes the lead point guard of a team, opposing teams will gameplan around him and his weaknesses more significantly than the very few times where he's asked to be the lead ballhandler in Dame's absence.
His 2021/22 stats, while still a limited overall sample size, do suggest he'll be able to dish out a similar number of dimes as the lead guard (Dame had been ruled out due to injury during the season so teams did have to gameplan around the Ant for a large portion of the season instead of a handful of games scattered throughout the season) and he still has room to grow as a playmaker but once again, it was only a sample size of 30 games so it is hard to draw much out from the games he played.
Speaking of drawing conclusions from said sample size: Yes the Blazers went 4-7 within that 11 game sample size - and bear in mind this sample included games where the Blazers were still trying to contend while facing a variety of teams i.e. not every team was a playoff or contender. That isn't great, however, Ant was generally not the main reason they lost since the 2022/23 Blazers as a whole were pretty terrible all year, even before they blatantly tanked. The same is also true of his breakout year when the Blazers lost Lillard due to injury, they just weren't a good team.
If there is a point of contention around Simons that one can draw from his past 2 seasons, it's his defense which...it's bad.
It's really bad.
He's improved this season on that end to the point where i'd say he's a better defender than Dame - even if his overall defensive rating doesn't support this, the eye test does - but that's like saying Spencer Dinwiddie is a better defender than Trae Young. While Chauncey Billups hasn't been doing either one of Portland's guard any favors, it doesn't change the fact that being better than one of the worst defenders in the league is not an accomplishment to be proud of. All coaching issues aside, Simons is still a notable negative on that end of the floor. He has a propensity for losing his man via ball watching, he's not great at closing out on the perimeter and he's not a lane disruptor by any means. It's not impossible for him to improve as a defender - he's 6'3 with a 6'9 wingspan and much of his defensive weaknesses come from a lack of discipline - but as of right now when his shots aren't falling he's a major liability on the court and his flaws on defense were not well hidden when paired next to another notably poor defender in Dame.
There are a couple of other habits that Simons needs to address - he could stand to be less trigger happy as a scorer and work more on his playmaking given all the promise he's shown in that area - but that's the main issue with Simons. He's a very skilled guard with a similar approach to the game as Dame on both ends of the floor. And we all know Dame isn't locking down the opposing team's point.
Does Anfernee Simons seem like he'll become a guard on the level of Dame? No but that's a ridiculously high bar to hold him to, especially with the limited opportunities he had and will continue to have when he's behind Dame in the guard pecking order. Anfernee is a good player who often shows glimmers of true greatness on offense but whose defense (or lack thereof) is going to require very careful teambuilding to limit exploiting said defense in the playoffs. Perhaps he'll need to be the full-time point to fully achieve his potential as a playmaker but while he doesn't scream All-NBA caliber, he's someone you can easily see eking out a couple of All-Star nods at his peak and is, at worst, a staring-caliber guard. As for whether he can be the lead of a championship contender...we'll get to that when we talk about the pick he'd come with.
TL;DR - Anfernee Simons is an intriguing young player with upside as an explosive, shoot-first PG but one whose poor defense does mean the team's starting lineup/bench has to be built around carefully to account for his current (and likely ongoing throughout his career) weaknesses.
3rd Pick
https://preview.redd.it/96pocramhi3b1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=3ee450641a298a5b1dee0da9fce0c7f652c60665
It's whomever is left from Scoot Henderson or Brandon Miller. Maybe you trade down to 4 for some more assets if you're a believer in Amen Thompson, maybe you take Amen if you think he's the best player available and the Rockets won't negotiate for Scoot/Miller but yeah, it's one of those three via the 3rd overall pick.
Before we get into the players, I do want to briefly mention that I actually did a post a while ago on a different sub going over trades involving the 3rd pick and to put it bluntly: The 3rd pick has good value but it doesn't have as much value on its own and trades involving the 3rd pick for an All-Star or even All-NBA caliber player are very rare.
The closest trade to what the Blazers would want in return was in 2000 where the Atlanta Hawks traded the 3rd overall pick to the Vancouver Grizzlies along with Brevin Knight and Lorenzen Wright for Shareef Abdur-Rahim and the 27th overall pick. That 3rd pick turned out to be future HoFer Pau Gasol but no one knew he'd become that at the time. As for what the Grizzlies gave up for the pick, Shareef Abdur-Rahim was not a perennial All-Star nor was he an All-NBA level player. He was a solid player that became an All-Star in his debut season for the Hawks...and that was his only All-Star appearance.
With that in mind, it is a bit wild that it's so commonly suggested that Simons and the 3rd pick alone should be enough to acquire an All-NBA talent like Siakam, especially with how much inflation we've seen in trades for players of that caliber of late or even players who are a step below. Concerns about his contract expiring lowering his value are baffling, as if a team's front office wouldn't talk to him about an extension before making such a trade. Moreover, it's not like the Raptors need to deal him out when they can simply re-sign him in 2024.
Now this year, when Scoot Henderson or Brandon Miller could be up for grabs, the 3rd pick has a lot more value given how highly praised those players are, so let's put aside the debate on what is fair for Siakam for a moment and talk about the presumed 3rd overall pick, Scoot Henderson.
The 2nd best player in a draft class containing the best prospect since LeBron James. He's projected to go 3rd because Charlotte is allegedly interested in taking Brandon Miller at 2nd but we'll touch on that later. For now, let's talk Scoot:
  • Henderson is a freakish athlete and a terrific floor general; he racked up an average of 6 assists a night on an AST:TO ratio of 1.94:1 and is a strong option on offense due to his abilities as a slasher
  • His usage as the G-League Ignite's offense, be it ball screens or handoffs, displayed his ability to break down a team's defense
    • To delve deeper into his production as an offensive guard, his percentage rate of ball screens (43.7%) is only matched or surpassed by 7 players across the entire NBA. 7!
  • Despite the athleticism, Scoot is generally good at controlling the ball and not turning it over due to careless mistakes driving to the basket
  • For a guard, he's a pretty solid rebounder and, if nothing else, he puts in the effort on defense even if he's not necessarily someone who screams "Future DPoY"
  • Intangibles are hard to really quantify but Scoot is the definition of someone who "has that dog in him" and he's someone you trust down the stretch to make the right move
  • He puts in effort on defense but he's only 6'2 with a 6'9 wingspan and, well he's no Kyle Lowry when it comes to taking charges or the like
  • His shooting is...a work-in-progress; he tends to default to long 2s which he isn't great at making (38% overall), his free throw percentage is only 75% and his 3-point shooting is a measly 31% off the dribble
Needless to say, there's a lot to like about Scoot; if Victor wasn't in this draft, he'd easily go #1 overall. He's often compared to Derrick Rose or even Russell Westbrook as this uber explosive guard who can seriously pressure the rim while generating solid passes for his teammates which is a good comparison though one obviously hope his outside shooting pans out more like Curry or Trae than Russ or Rose.
Losing Siakam would obviously hurt the team in the short term but as far as what Scoot brings, there is a lot of upside to him that would raise the ceiling of the team in the long run. His ability to get to the rim, combined with his athleticism would make him the perfect guard for a team that thrives in transition like the Raptors. He would also have chemistry with another player the Raptors have been rumored to be interested in/may take at 13 in Leonard Miller as they played on the same team but we'll talk about the 13th pick's potential prospects another time.
For now, let's go over one of the problems with trading for Scoot Henderson if he is still on the board, besides the obvious hypothetical of "he might never become a player as good as the one you're giving up" or "what do you do with Fred when you brought in Scoot and Simons" because what you're really asking is this: Is a backcourt of Scoot/Simons the team's guard duo of the future?
This brings me to my big problem with a “trade for Simons + 3” trade if the 3rd pick does end up being Scoot: A backcourt of two undersized guards, one of whom is unproven against NBA competition on defense and the other of whom has been one of the worst guard defenders in the league is not a duo of guards you can build a contender around in the long-term unless both of them become significantly improved defenders. Or at the very least, it's a duo that has historically not led to notable championship contention.
Blazers fans would know this well given their team has only had one year where they weren’t the in the NBA’s basement as far as defensive ratings go, be it with CJ or Anfernee as Lillard’s sidekick; the furthest they ever got with either was the Western Conference Finals and the best their defense has even been was 10th. Every other season, the Trailblazers defense has been amongst the worst in the NBA. Part of those Blazers teams' failures can be attributed to bad coaching, but a more significant portion of the blame be laid at the feet of Dame being a bad defender and undersized who has been paired with bad, undersized guards throughout much of his career.
You can get away with one bad defender or a starter who’s undersized for their position on a championship-caliber team which, if you’re rebuilding by trading away Siakam, that is what you’re hoping to take a step back for. As an example, Dirk Nowitzki wasn’t known for being a lockdown defender and yet the Mavericks won their first and only championship to date with Dirk as the weak link on defense. He was also a phenomenal offensive talent whose weaknesses on defense were mitigated by how much momentum he was able to generate for his team but I digress.
You can get away with running several smaller players for a limited time to force mismatches on offense with the right lineup. The Warriors dynasty comes to mind, where Golden State would close games using their “Death Lineup”. However, that lineup revolved around 4 Hall of Famers (Klay, Dray, Steph, Igoudala) where Steph is the lineup’s weakest link on defense, and this is before we acknowledge that they were able to include yet another HoFer in Kevin Durant to replace Harrison Barnes in a different incarnation of the Death Lineup from 2017 onward.
For that matter, it's not wholly impossible to win a championship with a duo of small guards - the Pistons repeated in the 89/90-90/91 with 6'3 Joe Dumars and 6'1 Isiah Thomas and the Bad Boy Pistons were contenders throughout the 90s - but it is damn near impossible if your lead guards are bad defenders. Whatever can be said about Thomas' various off-court controversies, notably with him being found liable for sexual misconduct during his stint heading a woman's basketball team a la the New York Liberty, he was a phenomenal defender, as was Dumars.
Hell, the Raptors won in 2019 while having Fred VanVleet and Kyle Lowry share the floor a fair amount of time in the Finals though it is once again worth noting that both were terrific defenders at the time. Even if one wouldn't call their efforts All-Defense caliber, they were both positives on that end of the floor.
Historically speaking, you cannot be a championship-caliber team with two of your starters being undersized negatives on the defensive end barring them being surrounded by generational defenders or said starters being generational offensive players who can make up for how many points you’re giving up on the other end of the floor.
Simons is a gifted scorer with good playmaking but is a truly sorry defender. Scoot Henderson is a talented passer but is undersized for the position and how he fares defensively with teams hunting him as the smallest player on the court will remain to be seen. But with neither of them likely to be a Dumars/Thomas-level defender and the offensive capabilities for one of them being the main question mark as to how good a player they could become, having both of them as the foundation to your team's backcourt seems to cement the duo's future as a non-contending entity.
Let's put this into perspective with some statistics: Of the past 40 years, the only championship to ever be won by a team with what could be considered a bad regular season defensive rating was the 2000/01 Lakers. That team had two generational talents in Shaq and Kobe, and that season is itself an outlier when compared to the rest of the Shaq/Kobe Lakers era that it shouldn't even count. All other championship teams were at least 12th or higher for their season with most championship teams being in the Top 5 in defensive rating.
By the by, in case you're wondering: That team who had 12th in defensive rating was the 1995 Rockets led by the generational talent in Hakeem Olajuwon and said rating had a lot to do with untimely injuries to the 95 Rockets core. That team they still managed to have the 7th best offensive rating in the league despite Drexler's absence for much of the season is a testament to Future Raptors Retiree Hakeem's skills as the best big man of the late 80s, early-to-mid 90s. Are we noticing a pattern here?
Even if we ignore the question about what to do with Fred, the question of what the Raptors backcourt looks like is far more pertinent if it is going to involve some combination of Scoot Henderson and Anfernee Simons with, presumably, Gary Trent Jr. and another guard coming off the bench for relief. Is a backcourt of Anfernee Simons and Scoot going to turn this team into a Top 3-6 offense for the season without plummeting this team's defense off of a cliff? And if you don't think so, when do you move one of them to open up the 1 or the 2 for another player?
This is a question the team will likely have to answer once they've seen how Simons and Scoot fit togethefit with the rest of the roster; I don't see a 3-team draft day deal where Simons or the 3rd pick are moved elsewhere barring that aforementioned moving down to 4th and I don't see this team without Siakam/with Scoot and Simons being a serious contender for several years even if they do pan out. But it is a question that has me concerned in regards to how this team will function when it's developing a dynamic duo of players who will be picked apart in the playoffs barring one of them turning into a terrific defender.
Whatever else one can say about Point Scottie or even Scottie Barnes when he was crammed into the starting Shooting Guard position for much of the year, it is hard to argue that having either Scottie or Trent & Simons/Scoot as your backcourt makes way more sense defensively even if having both Scottie and Scoot complicates matters on the offensive end since neither are great shooters and Trent's defense is a touch overrated at time due to is propensity to gamble for steals.
All this being said, it's not out of the realm of possibility that Henderson becomes an All-Defense-caliber player or for Simons to a climb out from the deep hole he's dug for himself as one of the worst defenders in the league, and Scoot is still a phenomenal talent. These concerns should be noted, but they shouldn't serve to deter from selecting him 3rd if such a trade were to go down. As a prospect, there's very few players in this draft class who could serve to singlehandedly raise the floor and the ceiling of this team in the long run.
Speaking of other players, however, it should be acknowledged that Scoot isn't the only potentially available player at 3; while all accounts suggest the Hornets prefer Brandon Miller at 3, Scoot is the best player available at 2 and there's no guarantee the Hornets draft for fit. So here's a quick rundown of Miller and a player the Blazers have recently worked out, Amen Thompson:
  • Brandon Miller is a 6'9 forward (boo, we have enough of those!) who can shoot (yay, we need more of that!) and has some notable playmaking upside even if his decision-making can be questionable at times. He's a player you could see as either a #1 or a high level #2 option on a championship team though he's not the most switchable guy on defense and you have the usual rookie concerns i.e. "he needs to get the NBA body to thrive". He's gotten a lot of comparisons to Paul George but i'd say his playmaking is further ahead from what PG13 was as a prospect.
  • Amen Thompson is someone I talked about in the trade for the 4th pick & he's a very interesting player. A high ceiling, low floor player with unreal athleticism, a 6'7 lead guard who's arguably the best passer in the draft class but has serious questions about the competition he's faced in OverTime Elite/his shooting being as bad as it was. Think Ja Morant but with defense and, again, at 6'7 with a much longer wingspan.
I feel like the trade makes more sense if the Raptors were to go for Amen or Miller but we won't know who the Hornets will chose on draft night until the day of & ideally you'd trade down for 4th to get Thompson plus assets if you're sold on Amen. Plus like I said, it is possible that Scoot does become a good or even great defender so one might not have to worry about choosing between him and Ant down the line.
TL;DR - Scoot is an amazing prospect but his pairing with Simons could be a major problem in the future if both don't improve defensively. Ironically, the 3rd pick becomes simultaneously more valuable for other teams/less valuable for the Raptors if it's Scoot and vice-versa if it's Miller due to those concerns. Thompson is a wildcard at 3 depending on who has the pick/how willing the Rockets are to trade up to 3rd.
Nassir Little
Portland is reluctant to deal out Sharpe. We can debate on whether or not it's fair value for an All-NBA caliber player like Siakam, how much his contract being expiring should affect a deal (we'll ignore the fact that he can be extended by Portland and that any front office making a trade like this should be doing their due diligence by speaking to Pascal Siakam beforehand) or how good Sharpe actually was as a rookie overall instead of solely focusing on that stretch where the Blazers let him do whatever because they were tanking but regardless, the Blazers seem intent on keeping him. Fair enough, Masai is likely aiming for more than Anfernee and 3 - especially for the reasons listed above if it is Scoot Henderson - but Sharpe is likely a hard sell for the front office even if they are going all-in i.e. they want to keep at least one young guy on the roster for the long-term.
That being said, there's still the matter of salary matching, and that's where one of Nassir Little or Sharpe has to come in (They're not going to move Nurkic in the deal for Siakam unless they have something lined up for their center situation i.e. tampering for Naz Reid); the only way for the Blazers to neatly absorb Siakam into their cap with just Simons is by renouncing their rights to Jerami Grant and they need to re-sign him/move him to the 3 (Grant is a really bad rebounder for a PF; the man is a career 4 RPG) if they are serious about competing with Dame.
So...yeah, Nassir Little. Little is what people think O.G. is: A good defender who is often injured, Little is a solid 3 & D wing who, unlike Anunoby, has never played more than 55 games for a given season. Granted, 2019/20 and 2020/21 were shorted to 72 seasons but regardless, injuries have hampered the 23 year-old in the same way that Otto Porter Jr.'s potential was sapped due to a career-long battle with injuries. Still, when considering his age and production, his newest contract ($28M/4 years) is amazing value when he's healthy.
But much like Otto (who I think technically could be sent in such a deal due to the rules around incoming/outgoing salaries), the question of when he's available is a common one. Little is a good young player but one whom you shouldn't get your hopes up about changing the team's direction.
TL;DR - A little salary (sorry) is needed for the deal to happen on draft night & Nassir would be a decent choice for forward depth off the bench. One will have to carefully factor in injury concerns when evaluating the team's depth.
Keon Johnson
So like I said, Sharpe is likely to be ruled out. I debated if I should cover him at all but i'm honestly not sold on Shaedon as a prospect and we've already met the quota for rants with the "Simons/Scoot frontcourt will be exploited" talks. That said, I don't think the Raptors would settle for just Simons and the 3rd pick or the 3rd pick plus assets from a 3rd team were Anfernee moved due to the aforementioned backcourt issues with Simons and Scoot. For now we have Keon Johnson.
Fun fact: When the Raptors were expected to draft 7th in the 2021 draft, Johnson was a common player mocked for the 7th pick.
He wound up going in the 20 to the Clippers (via the Knicks in a trade) who eventually fleeced the Blazers in a deal including him for Norman Powell.
Keon Johnson...hasn't really done a whole lot thus far. He was noted for having an impressive vertical of 48" at the 2021 combine which broke a previous record, he's a terrific athlete and he's about the same age as Scottie so he lines up with a rebuild or retool around Barnes...
...and that's where the positives end. Like I said, Keon hasn't demonstrated all that much on either team he's been on. For a guard, he's not a great ball handler, he isn't a good shooter, he's got decent size and the speed to be a good defender from 1-3 but his potential on that end does not All-Defense caliber. He'd be a throw-in that you'd hope can develop over time, likely spending a lot of time in the G-League because as of right now, he isn't going to be a significant contributor on either end.
TL;DR - Keon is on a rookie deal so you'd be taking a flier on him/betting on your development bringing out the best in him if he were included.
Other pick(s): As far as immediate draft capital goes, the Blazers have the 23rd pick in this draft, which is around the range where players the Raptors have been rumored to be interested in/interviewed (Bilal Couliby, GG Jackson) would likely be available. There's been some speculation that the Blazers could send this pick to the Bulls so they can get their owed pick back from Chicago but nothing concrete has come out regarding whether the Bulls would settle for that vs. hoping the Blazers make the 1st round and lose so they can get a pick in the 16-20 range.
That said, the future pick owed to the Bulls is where things get tricky if the Raptors did want a future 1st: The Blazers pick is protected until 2028. It is technically possible for them to offer a swap in 2029 but without the protections being removed on the Bulls-bound 2024 1st (The 2029 pick cannot be moved due to the Stepien Rule), any future draft capital would need to come in the form of the 2023 trade deadline's currency of choice: Second round picks.
Some of the notable 2nds include:
  • A 2024 2nd that could come from the Hornets or Wolves
  • A 2028 Warriors 2nd
  • This year's second via the Hawks which is 45th
  • The Blazers own 2nd in 2028
Not that these are a good substitute for a first-rounder but with the Blazers draft capital being restricted and the CBA's changes to 2nd round contracts, it's better than no future firsts if the 2023 Knicks pick is considered a bridge too far.
TL;DR - There is some interesting draft capital here beyond their own 1sts, especially if the 23rd pick is available in a deep draft like this, but ideally one would want a future 1st from the Blazers rather than a handful of 2nds given Dame's limited window.
Conclusion
I was originally going to talk about the 4th overall pick too but this got a bit lengthy so I made that into a separate post. As far as the 3rd pick package, in some ways it's better than one surrounding the 4th pick because Simons is a flatout better player than any one the Rockets would send back but it's also worse when you factor in Simons or Scoot's respective ceilings vs some of the potential prospects that could come in a 4th pick package?
You're getting significant depth at the guard position if it is Scoot/Simons but there's a huge question mark as to how good the defense will hold up with two undersized guards, one of whom is a bad defender, will hold up in the playoffs.

2023.06.02 23:57 Dividedthought Unknowns

We were clueless when they first passed through our home system, what with us having barely invented the telescope. Their warships were mistaken for asteroids adrift in the void, tiny sparkling gems dancing between stars.
The second time they entered our system we thought it was a show of force. Immense explosions at the periphery of our primitive sensor's range, we only realized that it was a military action and not some strange cosmic happenstance from the few stray radio signal we detected and spent decades decoding. The few words we were able to translate boiled down to "that should show them."
By the third incursion we had reached our moons. We saw them. We thought they didn't see us, assumed our habitats on the moons were buried deep enough and disguised well enough. They passed by without a word, thousands of titans made of titanium and Tungsten and steel using methods we couldn't fathom, travelling towards a goal we were ignorant of. We managed to detect their ships entering the system, not soon enough to react to them, but we detected it. Quite the feat at our tech level, from what I understand.
It was on the fourth incursion when contact occurred. An exploratory ship, the Iskira, around Navius was collecting data for a new colonization site when it happened. Thousands of massive pings on the long range sensors consistent with what we had detected last time. The crew were ordered to minimize their signature and hide among the rings of Navius.
It did not matter. The fleet passed through the rings, harvesting some resources. One of the ships dispatched a smaller craft, a single light fighter, which stopped a kilometer away from the Iskira, watching it. It took some scans, and the Iskira did the same. Tense hours passed, then the behemoths left the rings and the fighter returned to its berth. A small beacon was left behind, a cylander no larger than a drinking glass that gave off enough of a signal for us to notice.
The Iskira retrieved it, and what it contained set our scientific communities on fire with a desire to know more. Our military on the other appendage, was scared shitless that they had already translated our language.
The capsule contained the instructions on how to build a planetary shield generator. In our language. Alongside those were the instructions on how to find and refine the materials we had not yet discovered in order to accomplish this.
We didn't know if it was a gift, a warning, or a threat, but we built them anyhow. The pre-calculated requirements for every inhabited body in our system destroyed the idea we could hide from them.
Over the next decade we waited, anticipating their return with equal amounts of hope and fear.
Then the Aranti arrived.
Fortunately for us autonomous transport drones were the only things travelling between planets. Central command's detection maps lit up like a new born sun as hundreds of thousands of biomechanical ships exited warp on the edge of the system, burning for the planets we inhabited. It was as if the apocalypse had arrived, the shield generators screamed to life, the purple tinted fields of physics phenomena we had yet to fully understand flaring brightly as we locked ourselves behind them, hoping they would be enough.
In our panic, we failed to notice the massive pulse of energy blasted in one direction from a low orbit around our star. A signal, a beacon, calling out to those who left it there that the shields were activated and under attack.
We thought we were alone in this fight. As it turns out, we were wrong.
The sensors lit up once more. Not with the strange signatures of these new invaders, but with the telltale characteristics of the old. A message was received.
"Do not despair, help has arrived."
Above our skies, lights bloomed among the invading fleet as weapons with the potential to level continents detonated. Beams of energies we couldn't comprehend lanced out from the invaders only to bounce harmlessly off of lavender hued shields to dissipate in the void between the stars. Gargantuan amalgamations of flesh and metal were cleaved in two by projectiles travelling at a high fraction of the speed of light.
For five days our skies became a kaleidoscope of chaos and fury as the battle raged on. We could do nothing but stare in awe of the sheer displays of power occurring amidst the black. It was if the very gods of old were clashing in the heavens. We watched as the invaders dug in on the fourth moon of our homeworld, three of their motherships tunneling deep beneath its rocky surface and projecting a shield of their own in defiance of the slaughter above.
It did not help them.
We watched with equal amounts of horror and amazement as the largest of the ships helping us unfolded like some great cosmic flower, visible to the naked eye from the surface of our homeworld. A glow emerged within its immense petals and built in brilliance until we could no longer look directly at it.
A Lance of pure silver light streaked from what we now know to be a Hades class exterminator, a weapon capable of erasing entire stars from existence in the blink of an eye. The tendril of pure destruction crept across the sky, slowly from our vantage point but it crossed the abyss between its origin and target in a mere 30 seconds. When it struck, it left a glowing wound in the surface.
Then, we were shown the definition of overwhelming force.
Iriam detonated, unable to contain the impossible energies that had been violently injected to its core. Fragments of moon larger than even the ships overhead crashed into the planetary shields only to be vaporised into their most basic elements. Our saviors ships went to work, obliterating any of the debris that would have come back to haunt us decades in the future when their orbits around our star would have brought them back home.
Two days later the fight was over. Billions of tons of wreckage now meandered through space posing a hazard to our ships. Our saviors were not unbloodied, but they were the only ones still alive.
The shields were turned off, and the Iskira was launched carrying our top diplomats, politicians, scientists, and generals. We waited, terrified of what would happen next as we knew that noting would be the same again.
Hours passed, many of our saviors ships moved to orbit Navius to restock from the abundance of her rings. Eventually the Iskira returned, carrying envoys from our mysterious saviors. Every eye was glued to the broadcast as the two armored beings stepped off the ship alongside our leaders. A podium was brought, and after a declaration that the immediate threat was over, and that our saviors were here to stay until we could defend ourselves, the two aliens stepped up to the microphone. After seconds that felt like eons the spoke, in flawless Xirajin.
"Greetings to the entire Xiraji race. We are representatives of the United Terran Republic, a spacefaring alliance of hundreds of species gathered with the goal of ensuring no race is extinguished before their time or exploited by our less hospitable neighbors. To you, we come in peace, in the hope that you may join us after all these years you spent watching our ships drift by. We didn't contact you prior to this to prevent the Aranti from finding you sooner. We gave you the shield technologies to hold them off when they inevitably detected your advancements. We left a beacon, so we could help when we did.
We welcome you with open arms and hearts to our galactic community. You owe us nothing for our help, as we were helped ages ago by a dying race we too send our ships.
To you, the star's are no longer out of reach. Again, welcome. Among our stars, you are among friends."

2023.06.02 23:56 breakmedown1958 I thought he came back

I guess im just writing today to see what others think. My twin contacted me last Friday evening, after ghosting in November. We talked for two days and he sent paragraphs about how he was choosing happyness and he needed me in his life in some form. We decided that we'd talk in secret because we have children from other relationships and we're afraid if the others find out it will effect the custody battles. I told him i couldnt put up with the ghosting so he needed to prove he wanted me in his life. So he said when his phone was back on and he didnt need to use wifi to talk he would talk to me and we could try to see eachother. Sunday he said he gets paid Thursday so i said ok and ended up messaging him anyway wendsday saying i had no patience and just wanted to talk to him. He responded i know. Soon. And thats the last ive heard. He hasnt answered anything i sent today and now idk if hes already ghosting. Everything feels like hes my twin but its also starting to feel like a toxic person making sure they still have access to me. I dont know what to do at this point because i refuse to keep chasing after him but it feels like ill never get over him.

2023.06.02 23:56 Thelastfrontiers Solo Trip Report: May 17 - May 29 (LONG)

Solo Trip Report: May 17 - May 29 (LONG)
I will post the resources used at the end of the post but here is the full itinerary.
May 17th (Arrival)
I arrived at KEF around 8 AM, I scheduled the pick up time of my van at 10:00 AM, around 9:15 AM the person from Cheap Campervans picked me up at the airport and drove us to the Happy Campers place. Van pick up was smooth and easy and headed towards Reykjavik since I scheduled a reservation at 12:30 at Sky Lagoon.
Stayed at Sky Lagoon for around 2 hours, did the ritual ( It was a nice experience, I'm not used to go to this type of places so it was a new experience for me).
Drove to the AirBnB I booked and died for a few hours there, then I walked towards Hallgrimskirkja and just walked around in that area, visited Harpa, Sun Voyager and ate some delicious hot dogs at Bæjarins. I stopped at a Bonus store on the way back to the AirBnB to grab supplies for the trip and I arrived once again at the AirBnB.
May 18 (Golden Circle)
Woke up, had breakfast and drove towards Thingvellir. I parked at Parking 1 and walked around the park for a few hours, visited Öxarárfoss, Logberg, Almannagjá etc. It was windy and rainy but fortunately I was prepared and had a really great time, although it was a little bit crowded on some parts.
Thingvellir
Next stop was Brúarfoss. I didn't do the whole hike due to the weather so I stayed in the new parking lot that they have, if I'm not mistaken the price was around 750 ISK, the road is gravel but any 2WD can access it without a problem if you are careful. Place was beautiful and there were maybe 2 or 3 persons there.
Drove to Strokkur to see the Geyser, stayed there for a bit until the Geyser "exploded" and took some pictures and then left, beware of the smell here.
Drove to Gullfoss and I parked in the lower parking lot, I walked to the side of the waterfall and it was incredible, trully a highlight of the day but make sure to bring some really good hiking shoes/boots and some waterproof equipment.
Finally Arrived at Skjol Camping which was pretty good, had a pizza and a beer in the restaurant they have and went to sleep.
May 19 (South)
First stop of the day was Kerid Crater, you need to pay 450 ISK to enter but it's a beautiful view, walked around the crater and left.
Drove to Seljalandsfoss, you also need to pay parking here and it was very crowded when I arrived, walked to Seljalandsfoss and went behind the waterfall. Walked to Gljufrafoss and entered the cave, make sure to bring good waterproof shoes here cause you need to walk in water to enter the cave.
Next stop was Skógafoss, simply amazing, I stayed for a bit inside the restaurant that is in front and had something to eat in the meantime that the rain stopped a little, once it stopped I walked to the waterfall, I went up the stairs towards the Fimmvorduhals trail and walked for a mile or so and then I returned.
Skógafoss
Drove to Kvernufoss, wow, one of the hightlights of the trip. I walked down until the end where the waterfall is and just stayed there for a bit, simply amazing place and I was alone for almost the entire hike.
Drove to Dyrhólaey but unfortunately it was closed.
Drove to Reynisfjara and stayed there for a bit.
Finally arrived at an AirBnB I booked that was just a few minutes from Vik, I was unable to find a camp that was open around that area (or maybe I just didn't do a lot of search).
May 20
First stop was the Black Sand beach in Vik, really beautiful views and way less crowded than Reynisfjara.
Did the lava show at Vik and it was an amazing experience, definitely recommend doing this if you are in the area, after the show I ate an amazing lamb soup in the restaurant.
Drove to Eldhraun, short stop but beautiful views all around.
Drove to Fjaðrárgljúfur, road is paved all the way through and it's very easy to access, did the hike and took some amazing shots here, unfortunately mid hike there was a wind storm and I lost my lens hood of my camera and the raincoat I had for my backpack, Iceland winds are no joke!
Fjaðrárgljúfur
Did a little stop at Fossálar to take some pictures and finally arrived at Tjaldsvæðið í Svínafelli camp, really good facilities.
May 21 (South East)
Drove to Skaftafell since I booked a Glacier Hike with Arctic Adventures, the whole tour lasted around 4 hours and it was definitely one of the things I liked the most about the trip. Once we returned I had a little bite at the restaurant that the park has and then I continued the trip. (I wanted to do the Svartifoss hike but I was a little tired).
Glacier
Drove to the Múlagljúfur Canyon, unfortunately weather was pretty bad and since this was a longer hike I decided to not risk it, I was pretty disappointed cause this trail was one of my priorities but safety first!
Did a quick stop at Hofskirkja and drove to Fjallsárlón Glacier. I stayed inside the van for a bit cause it was raining and the wind was crazy for a bit but then it calmed down and I went down to the lagoon, amazing views.
Drove to Diamond Beach but unfortunately there was no ice in the beach, after this I drove to Höfn and stayed at the camp there. Unfortunately this was probably my least favorite camp, showers are not included in the price so that was a bummer.
May 22 (East)
First stop was Mount Vestrahorn, you need to pay to enter at the Viking cafe, I get that people sometimes get mad about paying here but I thought it was really worth it, they give you a map with the parking spots and the trails that they have, I visited the viking village which was cool even if it's fake, walked in the black sand beach and saw some wild horses roaming around, after that I grabbed a snack from the Cafe.
Vestrahorn
Drove to Skútafoss. Honestly, this was probably my favorite place in the whole trip, it was simply amazing and I was probably alone for almost 1 hour until another person arrived, words can't describe this place.
Had a stop at Djúpivogur and ate at Við Voginn, then I started the drive to the camp but I made a little stop at Nykurhylsfoss.
Arrived at Camp Egilsstadir, If you are visiting during low season I would recommend to arrive there and then do the reservation, I made a reservation before I arrived and once I was there there was someone else at my spot, I talked with the person in recepetion and for some reason my reservation was not appearing so I had to do it once again and grab another spot. Really good facilities tho!
May 23 (North)
Arrived at Hengifoss. I didn't check my AllTrails app beforehand and the hike was much longer than I expected lol, but it was beautiful.
Drove to Fardagafoss. I was planning on going all through the end but the wind was crazy, so I decided to return mid hike.
Next stop was Stuðlagil Canyon. I recommend doing the East parking to get to the famous spot, when you cross the bridge you need to follow a road that is not paved, it is a little rough but if you are careful you can do it in a 2WD. Once you park you need to walk for a little while, can't remember but I would say it's a 1-2 mile walk to the canyon, and as I mentioned before, wind was crazy this day but I was able to complete it safely, if it was raining tho I would have returned most likely.
Stuðlagil
Drove to camp in Ásbyrgi, really beautiful but this was the most expensive camp I stayed at.
May 24
Woke up a little late so I decided to skip the Ásbyrgi trails and I drove to Dettifoss, you need to be careful here cause Google Maps will have you take road 864 which was closed when I was there, make sure to always check the correct roads in road.is, in this case I took road 862 and arrived with no problems.
Did a quick stop at Hverir, you need to pay for parking and also the smell can get very strong lol.
Drove to Mývatn and visited the Grjótagjá cave, I then drove to Hverfjall volcano, you need to pay parking here. Did the hike to the top and stayed for a bit there, the climb is a little steep but once you are up it's easy to walk.
Hverfjall
Next stop was Goðafoss, parked on the East Side and took some cool pictures, it was a short stop.
Finally started my drive to camp, I had a little scare here cause I had to drive between some mountains and that day it was snowing, I checked the road and a very tiny part of Þjóðvegur had wet snow on it, I decided to try the drive and I arrived safely at camp but it was stressful. Camping Varmahlíð was the one I stayed that night and it was lovely, really friendly stuff and good facilities.
May 25
Drove to Grafarkirkja, you need to open a little gate to access the parking so just watch out for the signals once you are close. I arrived early in the morning so I had the place for myself for like 30 minutes.
Kálfshamarsviti was the next stop, most of the drive to here is done in a gravel road so be careful, the place is very beautiful and there were just a few people when I arrived.
Kálfshamarsviti
Drove to Hvitserkur, long drive but I'm used to them, also a gravel road if I recall correctly, really peaceful place, I went down to the beach, you need to be careful here not to slip.
I was initially planning on staying in Búðardalur tjaldsvæði camping, this one is just on the side of the main road and facilities are kinda lacky and place is kinda small (I can imagine that in summer this gets full really quickly), I was walking around town and found a place called Gil Gesthouse and decided to stay there, it was a lovely stay.
May 26 (Snæfellsnes / West)
First stop was Berserkjahraun, it was rainy and windy so I just made a quick stop and took some pictures.
Went to Kirkjufell, you also need to pay parking here which I didn't know, short stay also due to the weather.
Kirkjufell
Drove to Svöðufoss but I was unable to do the hike since wind was too strong and visibility was bad, I also had to skip a stop at Lóndrangar unfortunately.
Did a little stop at Djúpalónssandur, took some pics and left, was unable to go down to the beach.
Stopped at Arnarstapi, rain stopped fortunately but wind was strong still but it was safe to walk around.
Visited Búðakirkja. I then decided to go back to Kirkjufell since weather got good and wanted to see it with good visibility, made a short stop there and walked around the lake for a bit until the wind made me return to the van.
Camped at Akranes, wind was very strong and it blew the door for the showers.
May 27 (Reykjanes)
Drove to Lake Kleifarvatn and stayed there and walked down for a bit. Visited Krýsuvík and then drove to Valahnúkamöl, really nice stay here, took some good pictures and also visited the Reykjanes Lighthouse.
Valahnúkamöl
I was planning on visiting Blue Lagoon but it was fully booked unfortunately so I decided to drive to Reykjavik once again and booked Sky Lagoon again. Walked around the city again and bought souvenirs for family and friends, ate dinner at Kol which was good but pricey and finally I stayed at the Reykjavik Campsite (make sure to make a reservation before hand cause it gets full).
May 28
Woke up early in the morning and drove to Cheap Campervans to return the van. Return was fast and without any issues and the staff was kind enough to drop me at the AirBnB that I reserved at Reykjanesbær. I mostly stayed there the whole day to rest.
May 29
Flight was scheduled for 9 am so I decided to walk to the airport and just when I was starting my walk a kind person offered me a ride to the airport. Everything went smooth and I returned home.

2023.06.02 23:53 ral365 I'm tired of being my own worst critic, but I can't stop either!

Mistakes are supposed to be something we learn from; a way to see how far we've come, and be proud of what we've achieved. With me, though, I just can't stop beating myself up for the mistakes I made. It's so bad that they even come as intrusive thoughts!
(TL;DR: For years, I was bullied and alienated for having trouble with social interaction from having autism. Now, I can't stop being as hard on myself as people were to me back then. I want to be proud of my accomplishments, but I just bash myself for how awkward I was.)
I have Asperger Syndrome, or high-functioning autism. Growing up, I was VERY awkward because I wasn't born with the social and communication skills other kids develop naturally. I had quirks like repeating lines from movies and TV, even if I didn't know what they meant; pantomiming my daydreams; talking about my own interests non-stop; talking to myself all the time, etc. This made me a VERY easy target for bullying, and had some really embarrassing moments in front of the whole class. I also had a few teachers who bullied me. I was yelled at, berated, and even punished for things I genuinely didn't understand. It felt like "The other kids don't have these problems, so what's wrong with ME?"
The feeling of being mentally behind everyone else carried over into my adulthood. My 20's felt more like an extension of my adolescence; I was less awkward, but not by much. Not even getting my Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts was enough to make me overcome this inferiority complex. It even played a role in my long, repeated battles with clinical depression.
Now, I'm in my 30's, and I'm more socially aware than I've ever been. I can interact with people as if I was "normal," and I'm more aware of when I start to get carried away. Unfortunately, I've now developed a habit of treating every awkward conversation, every word spoken out of turn as if I should be ashamed of myself. I relive similar feelings of humiliation from school, and being brutally reminded of how awkward I was. Those memories even come in at random as intrusive thoughts, leaving me thinking over and over, "Why did I do that? Why did I do that? Why did I do that?"
At this point, part me just wants to forget my whole childhood and teen years because that'll also mean forgetting the embarrassment. I really don't want to, but I don't see how either. I'm tearing up right now just thinking about it. It's like my brain is programmed to think negatively of myself, and I don't know how to re-program it.
Thanks for hearing me out. I know it was really long. It just seemed like the best way to explain the full context. I hope I can overcome this someday.

2023.06.02 23:52 PsyberPunk_3030 If you want to make sure you get to play with mostly Ethernet players you can blacklist WIFI players, me and my friends have been doing this and it's working great.

I have always hated playing fighting game in WIFI, even though you can get decent ping, it's the packet loss that WIFI has problems with. SF6 lets you blacklist at the end of the match, so that way you can get more and more Ethernet battles.

Continuous ERROR #132 Fatal exception! game crash

ERROR #132 (0x85100084) Fatal exception!
It seems like since the patch Tuesday, I've been bombarded with ERROR #132 and my game crashing. This happens a lot if I switch between characters, or just seemingly out of nowhere. I've tried Blizzard support but haven't gotten anywhere so far with them. I'm at my wits end.
So far I've followed these:
I've uninstalled every single addon, every addon manager, moved the game to another drive, moved it back, did a clean install twice, renamed cache, deleted cache, deleted my recycling bin.
Hardware wise:
  • flashed bios
  • updated graphics
  • made sure all drivers were up to date
  • swapped RAM around
I've also tried:
  • running the game as administrator
  • disabled discord overlays
  • disabled xbox overlay
  • disabled nvidia overlay
  • uninstalled nvidia broadcast
  • disabled wallpaper engine (this appeared in a crash log)
Help 😅

2023.06.02 23:52 AustralianChrono Chronologica's Drag Race Season 4: Episode 7- It's Your Festival

Chronologica's Drag Race Season 4: Episode 7- It's Your Festival
Your disco, your disco
Zazu turns to the side, right into the action as she takes out a microphone from her outfit as Chronologica cackles.
Desperately seeking someone willing to travel
Haja drops the floor, eying the judges as she expressively lip syncs, her eyes darting like a woman seeking.. Something.
So let's dance through all our fears
Zazu begins to do the shuffle, moving in furious fashion with all the passion and drive, hand still gripped on the microphone.
Vous êtes jamais seuls
Haja and Zazu both stop, and instantly it’s clear, they both know the french, as Chronologica excitedly looks at the judges with a grin.
So let's dance through all our fears
Spinning into a split, Zazu raises her hands in the air and throws the microphone as Chronologica catches it, cheering.
Your disco needs you
Haja raises her hands in the air, Zazu throws a pose, and the judges and others cheer as the song ends.

This is a tough one.

Zazu Nova, Shantay YOU stay.
Zazu exhales. “Oh my gosh, thank you.”
Zazu smiles at Haja, who is clearly upset.
Haja Hubiani. Thank you for coming here, giving your all… but for now, sashay… away.
“Thank you for this opportunity. I may not have won, but damn it. I fought.” Haja nods, strutting off.
Haja Hubiani: “I am disappointed. But you know, I was here, I was fighting for this- and I hope my country is proud.”
Lipstick Message: “Battle for your LIFE, bitches! Good luck.”
~

The competitors walk into the werkroom.
“Haja.” Zazu frowns.
Zazu Nova: “I have just eliminated Haja, and wow. It kinda hurts.” Zazu tears up. “I feel bad.”
“Battle for your life, bitches. Good luck.” Zazu’s eyes well with tears as she wipes away the message.
“She was a fighter.” Jaslene says. “I know she wanted this so bad.”
Jaslene Bangus: “You know, as do I. I’m here to win, and I saw that girl letting herself get stressed by it. And no baby, that won’t beme.”
Everyone sits down.
“We’ve cracked the top 8.” Granny looks around. “That’s pretty phenomenal.”
Granny Gorgeous: “If I am being honest, I didn’t expect to be here. And I am, that feels lovely.”
“All of us have a win, except Ms… Raiz.” Aguacate raises an eyebrow, as the others turn to look at her.
Yasmin smiles. “I’m not nervous.”
Yasmin Raiz: “I am here to show myself. I’ve been consistent, I’ve been authentic- I have no qualms in the fact I will get a win at some point.”
“I’m glad you aren’t. But I’m also so happy to not be the last one to win, baby!” Aguacate cheers, as the others clap.
“You did really well.” Fiore purses her lips. “I’d have loved to have gotten a win, but I think I showed myself a comedian.”
“Comedian?” Aguacate raises an eyebrow.
“Yes.” Fiore smiles.
“Comedy is an art, and I am a master of crafts. I played a role, and I did it well.” Fiore responds.
Aguacate eyes Fiore.
Aguacate: “Delusion!!” Aguacate cackles. “Okay, I know that’s ironic coming from me.”
“Either way, we are here, ready to fight another day, and to celebrate the journey.” Crayola smiles. “And that is lovely.”
“We’re here to have FUN, right?” Omari says sarcastically. “Well, most of us.”
Jaslene purses her lips.
The racers de-drag.
“That comment…” Omari exhales. “It’s ringing in my head.”
“Don’t let things get to you.” Granny smiles. “You’re a star.”
“I’ve been doing this for years.” Omari looks at Jaslene, who cackles with Fiore. “How can she say I’m not having fun with it?”
“Well, have some fun, then.” Granny says with a grin on her face.
“I will…” Omari says. “I will.”
King Omari Star: “Get ready world… I’m going to have… fun.” Omari cracks his knuckles, before adjusting himself in his seat. “I’m not ridgid.” Omari sits like a formal King. “Just watch me work.”
“Honey, if you stand that stiff, you’re gonna be sore by my age. You look tense.” Granny laughs.
“Whoops.” Omari shakes himself around. “Thanks.”
Granny grins. “Not a problem at all.”
~
The Next Day, Yasmin smiles. “I didn’t cook.”
“Oh, so you’re going home this time.” Aguacate responds.
“I baked!” Yasmin reveals a plate of cookies.
“Damn, she’s not going home.” Aguacate frowns.
“Wait, if when you don’t cook, you bottom, and if you do cook, you’re safe or high… what happens when you bake?” Zazu asks.
“I guess we’ll find out.” Yasmin winks.
You’ve got drag mail!
The beat is pumpin’, so let’s dance baby!
“No dancing.” Aguacate shakes her head.
Hi racers.
It’s time…
Chronologica takes out a pair of glasses.
TO READ!
Because reading is WHAT?
“FUNDAMENTAL!”
~
“First off…” Jaslene looks at Zazu. “I want to thank you girl, for showing us authentically African drag at its worst.”
Zazu gasps.
“And Omari, thank you for showing us how to deliver high class drag without a single bit of joy in it!”
Omari looks displeased.
“Aguacate, I will say this in Spanish.” Jaslene smiles. “¡Estás tan plagada con tantas enfermedades sexuales que cuando besas a alguien, se convierten en paciente cero!”
Aguacate looks shocked.
~
Jaslene, you’re a winner baby!
“Another one in the basket.” Jaslene smirks.
Racers, it’s time to HOST YOUR OWN FESTIVAL!
For this week’s maxi challenge, you will in teams curate a festival of your choosing, hosting an event of a lifetime! You will come up with your own name, concept, idea, and execute it to stardom!
Yasmin Raiz: “I am SO excited for this. I love festivals! I’m over the moon excited for this, and my head is BOOMING.” Yasmin stops herself. “Oh lordy-my-lordy. My head is ALWAYS booming.” Yasmin giggles.
Jaslene, as mini challenge winner, you get to assign the teams.
“Okay, werk.” Jaslene nods. “I choose Fiore.”
Fiore grins.
“...Aguacate and… Granny.” Jaslene says. “Crayola… and Yasmin.”
And that leaves Zazu and Omari!
King Omari Star: “Hmph.”
Zazu grins, running over. “Let’s do THIS!”
Good luck, racers… and do NOT fuck it up.
~
The teams sit around the table as they prepare for the maxi challenge.
Yasmin Raiz: “For this week’s maxi challenge, we’re hosting our own FESTIVAL. Festivals have music, food and straight up good times. Which are ALL a recipe for a festivalicious Yasmin!!”
“So, we’re a team.” Crayola smiles, looking at Yasmin.
“Yes indeedy.” Yasmin grins.
“I really want to have myself get outside out of that box, that Chronologica has said I’ve been in.” Crayola says.
“Fabulousoing.” Yasmin beams. “How so?”
“...I haven’t figured it out yet.” Crayola chuckles.
"Well, my colorful friend, this could be the perfect opportunity for you to step outside that box and show the world a whole new side of Crayola. And I think I might just have the idea to spice things up." Yasmin smirks.
“What’s your idea?” Crayola asks.
“Do you like spicy food?” Yasmin raises an eyebrow.
“I prefer yogurt, or a lovely fruit salad…”
“You’re so white.” Yasmin laughs.
Crayola shrugs.
"Picture this, my dear: A Spice themed festival! We can pay homage to the iconic Spice Girls and celebrate all things spicy. And guess who's going to be our spicy surprise?" Yasmin smirks.
“Me?”
“YOU!” Yasmin chuckles. "Oh, darling, I envision you as the embodiment of Scary Spice meets Posh Spice. You'll be the daring white queen who fearlessly embraces the heat! We'll have a culinary challenge where you'll showcase your prowess in eating the spiciest of dishes. It'll be a journey of flavor and courage!"
“I’m stepping outside my box, we’re embracing your culinary talents, and we will host a SHOW!” Crayola looks excitedly. "Alright, Yasmin, I'm in. Let's make this Spice festival the hottest event of the season!"
Yasmin claps her hands in excitement.
Meanwhile, Fiore and Jaslene sit together.
“My A.E Sister.” Jaslene smiles.
“Sis.” Fiore purses her lips. “What’s your idea?”
“I mean, we’re divas, we’re icons..” Jaslene smirks. “And I want us to win this.”
Jaslene Bangus: “I can feel myself slightly off here. I want to really accelerate my performance and showcase what I can do.”
“I do too.” Fiore nods.
“So, I think we really showcase that. The pretty girl festival.” Jaslene smiles.
Fiore makes a confused face.
Taking up a hat, Jaslene walks over. “Opulence, beauty- the most exclusive of exclusive parties for the most stunning girls, only. We give them…” Jaslene picks up a huge cowgirl hat.
“A cowgirl hat?” Fiore says.
“...Don’t you love this idea?” Jaslene looks at Fiore, wearing the huge hat.
“No.” Fiore responds.
Fiore raises an eyebrow, her expression unimpressed and blunt.
"Jaslene, darling, I love you, but let's be real here. That cowgirl hat is not going to scream 'opulence' or 'exclusive' to anyone. If we're going for a classy and elevated concept, we need to think bigger." Fiore says.
Looking slightly offended, Jaslene purses her lips. “In what way?”
"I see the potential, but we need something more elevated. How about we create an exclusive garden party theme? Picture this: an enchanting outdoor setting, with beautiful flowers, elegant table settings, and a refined atmosphere. It will be the epitome of grace and sophistication."
Fiore Stravaganza: “Fiore is sophisticated always. That is my brand.”
"But everyone does garden parties, Fiore! I want something bold, something that screams 'Jaslene!’ something that is us BOTH!'"
Fiore sighs. "Jaslene, you're missing the point. We want to showcase our professionalism and show the judges that we can bring high-end fashion and sophistication to the stage. We need to impress, not embarrass ourselves with gimmicks."
“Ugh…” Jaslene responds. “I guess so.”
Fiore Stravaganza: “Love her to death but truly, I wish I was doing this challenge solo.”
~
Chronologica goes to visit the racers.
Hello, Aguacate and Granny!
“Chronologica, are you ready for this?” Aguacate smirks.
Ready for what?
“MADNESS!” Aguacate cheers.
Granny chuckles as Chronologica looks at the two.
“We are going for La Fiesta Loca, a tribute to our Latin American roots.” Agacate smiles. “And, you know, we’re a bit strange.”
“I am a 65 year old drag Queen grandmother.” Granny grins.
I think that’s a fun idea, and works with you both.
Aguacate looks excitedly.
Do you have experience hosting, either of you?
“Of course.” Aguacate grins. “We’re both star artistes, we’re both hilarious-”
“I actually have not hosted before.” Granny raises her hand.
Aguacate: “Ah Dios Mío…”
Give me a line, then- how you’re gonna approach this.
“I’m Granny Gorgeous, and we’re going loca, darling.” Granny smiles.

Oh, that was it?
“We’re working on it.” Aguacate looks over at Granny.
Aguacate: “I am about to put that Abuela through fucking hosting bootcamp.”
Good. You know where to go… do it.
Aguacate: “I AM NOT BOTTOMING! I AM NEVER A BOTTOM!”

Hi, Omari and Zazu.
“Hi Chronologica!” Zazu smiles.
Zazu Nova: “I’m excited for this challenge. I suggested an idea, I planned a concept, and he was excited. The Africa Unity Festival!”
King Omari Star: “I hate the idea. But I am going to take this feedback, and really hone in on it. Give… fun.” Omari growls.
“Chronologica.” Omari nods.
What is your concept?
“We both are from the same continent. We both have cultural traditions, we both have a shared fantastic place where we live.” Zazu smiles. “And for that, we’re showcasing it.”
Omari nods.
I think that’s a great idea.
Omari looks surprised, whilst Zazu has a bright smile.
Are you excited for this concept?
“I really am.” Zazu grins.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity, and I am taking this by the horns and really having fun with it.” Omari says coolly.
I…
Chronologica purses her lips.
I need you to have fun with it, Omari.
King Omari Star: “Don’t I look like I am having fun?!”
“I can assure you, I am.” Omari says.
You’re polished, you’re talented, but I think you can be a bit tight. And truly, I am nervous about you here.
Omari gulps.
My tip is to embrace the fun.
“I will.” Omari nods.
Zazu smiles.
King Omari Star: “...Fun!”
~
As they get ready, Fiore, Jaslene, Omari and Zazu, Crayola and Yasmin chat, whilst Aguacate appears to be running Granny through an obstacle course inside the werkroom.
“How are we all feeling about this challenge?” Yasmin smiles, looking excitedly.
“I’m feeling riveted.” Zazu grins.
"I must say, I'm quite confident in our concept. The exclusive garden party theme is right up my alley, and I know Jaslene has a knack for bringing the drama and glamor. I think we can really shine here." Fiore flicks her hair.
"Yeah, I'm ready to slay this festival. Fiore and I might have had a little disagreement earlier, but we're on the same page now.” Jaslene nods. “We're gonna show them what high-class, elegant drag is all about, baby!” Jaslene smirks.
"I'm really excited about our own Spice festival concept. It's something different, and I love the idea of showcasing my versatility. I think we can bring some heat and spice to the stage!"
“Heat and Spice?” Zazu raises an eyebrow.
Yasmin giggles as she turns to Zazu. "Oh, honey, you have no idea what we have planned for this festival. It's not just about the spicy food, it's about the spice in our performances too!"
Zazu grins. "Well, I'm all about adding some flavor to this competition. Let's make it hot!"
“This challenge means a lot.” Yasmin looks at Crayola, who nods.
As the teams continue to discuss their ideas, Omari sits quietly in the corner, lost in his own thoughts. Granny runs over, panting as Aguacate drops her whip and starts painting her face.
"Omari." Granny smiles delicately. "Are you okay?"
Omari looks up, snapping out of his reverie. “Yes, I'm fine. Just... thinking."
Granny raises an eyebrow. "About what?"
Omari sighs and looks a bit frustrated. "It's just... I can't help but feel like I'm being labeled as 'stiff' or 'unfriendly' in this competition. It bothers me because I am focused on the crown and doing my best, but people seem to misunderstand me."
“Still, with that?” Granny frowns.
“I’ve been watching this show since it started. But what- what inspired me, what triggered this drive and audition for me- was season 3 was filmed. Jerry Good Drag Queen toured the show and was actually visiting South Africa.” Omari purses his lips. “I’ve been doing drag for a while.”
Granny nods.
“I’ve built respect in the African drag scene- it’s small, and I get to travel for it. But when I got there, I was treated with such a lack of respect, like I was nothing, by this DRAG RACE girl- a winner, someone black… and you know, I didn’t make a big deal of it when she judged, because I didn’t want it to be a thing but... I never want to feel like that. I’m fixated. I’m not stiff. I’m just focused, and I’m going to have fun with this, but- I want the crown, you know?!” Omari exhales.
"I hear you, my dear. It's frustrating when others misjudge us based on surface impressions. But let me tell you something, Omari: you are a force to be reckoned with. Your focus, determination, and passion for drag shine through in your performances. And don't forget, the crown is within your reach. You have every right to go after it and claim it for yourself." Granny chuckles. “If I don’t get it first.”
Omari looks at Granny, a mixture of gratitude and determination in his eyes. "Thank you, Granny. Your words mean a lot to me. I won't let anyone's misconceptions hold me back. I'll show them what I'm made of. Even if I fall, I will rise.”
“Damn yeah.” Granny grins.
“GRANNY, COME BACK!” Aguacate yells, an axe in her hand as Granny starts to run away.

Good luck.”
