It has a Smart Track feature which will automatically detect your workouts like Running, cycling and gives you data on your smartphone App.
One limitation of this is that it does not detect weight lifting exercises while you are in the Gym.
Design and Look
Our first impression of the Fitbit Alta HR gives a very sleek look.
It does not look too big on your wrist and can be worn by both men and women.
The device is available in multiple sizes and therefore you should look at your wrist size before ordering one for yourself.
- Small size fits 5.5″-6.7″ wrist circumference
- Large size fits 6.7″-8.1″ wrist circumference
- XL size fits 8.1″-9.3″ wrist circumference.
There are no buttons on the sides.
It has a touch screen feature where you just need to tap on the screen to change the display.
You can actually choose what data you want displayed – Time, heart rate, date, steps, calories, etc. and there are a lot of ways to customize the display data.
The display on the device is quite bright and very much visible in the bright sunlight, unlike some other fitness trackers which have a weak display.
The Fitbit Alta HR band also comes with interchangeable bands which means that if you get bored of the wearing the same color everyday you can easily replace the band with a different color.
Continuous Heart Rate Monitoring
The Fitbit Alta will also monitor your heart rate during the entire day and also during the workouts to give you an accurate measure of how many calories you are burning.
Some people think that the Fitbit Alta HR is now a replacement for the Fitbit Charge 2. The reality is that no its not really the same. Even though they have the same price and both have heart rate sensors there is a difference when it comes to heart rate monitoring.
You can stop and start exercises with the FitbitCharge 2 but you can’t do that at all with Fitbit Alta HR. The Fitbit Alta HR will automatically recognize if you go for a run, but it’s not something you can control, and it doesn’t display a timer during your activities.
When you connect Fitbit Alta HR tracker with your smartphone you will be able to receive all calls, text messages, whatsapp and other alerts on your fitness tracker.
When you are sleeping while wearing the Alta band it will monitor your sleep stages, powered by pure pulse heart rate. It will also tell you whether you were in your deep sleep, light sleep or rem sleep.
The company claims a week of battery life from a single charge, which is two days more than its last model. The users found the battery life to be approximately 5 days.
Let me tell you straight forward that Fitbit Alta HR is not for the swimmers. Unfortunately, the Alta HR is only splash proof and NOT waterproof.
P.S: Do not wear it when you go for swimming or while you are taking a shower.
The Fitbit Alta HR is a great fitness tracker but the GPS function is missing. You will have to use your smartphone if you want to use GPS while Running or trekking.
